Following the recent Dark Of The Moon, Revenge Of The Fallen and Fall Of Cybertron servers shut down, Activision have updated their website with the last Transformers video games that will have their multiplayer servers discontinued: War For Cybertron and Rise Of The Dark Spark.
You won’t be able to access to any of the cooperative online features, but offline functionality will remain playable for all of the aforementioned video games. This is indeed the end of an era for Transformers video games.
We hope fans could enjoy these game on time. Click on the discussion link below and let us know your impressions on the 2005 Boards.

They shut down the servers because the game was no longer profitable but not only that. They legally no longer have the rights to it. While enabling P to P servers would be nice. You have to remember that High Moon Studios is dead and logically Activision wouldn't put in the work for a game they really no longer own. There also isn't a big enough case for enabling that considering the games are dead on every platform.
On the reason Eldewrito was possible is because soon after Halo Online released essentially all of the game assets were leaked online along side an extremely early build of the game. Microsoft also went after them and requested they remove and replace those stolen files. It's essentially a remake of halo online and that's not exactly the same thing as switching on P to P. We also have to think about the possibility that High Moon Studios no longer has the source codes and assets of FOC and WFC(and if they did there's nothing they could legally do with them)

The game was already dead though? Why go through the effort of trying to save something no one is playing

Yo if we can just somehow get ahold of the maps for multiplayer we could definitely start hosting our own servers. I legit messaged Matt Tieger on LinkedIn asking him if its possible in anyway to host our own servers but he hasn\'t replied and probably never will. But dang dudes I don\'t wanna let WFC go without a fight :\')

Because there was an easy solution to let the players that remain keep playing. Just let players connect to other players, or host their own servers. Neither of which they did. They simply don’t let people log in anymore in an attempt to stop people from even trying to do P to P. I mean hell, look at halo online. People took a bunch of assets together and slapped it together into a game that’s player to player, so 343 couldn’t shut it down. The most they did was take down the download link and stop the main people behind it from working on it further.

I'm not sure why everyone is calling Activision scummy. WFC is 10 years old next month and FOC is 8 years old. Multi-player on WFC and FOC were extremely dead on console and PC and with new better games coming out every month the games were going to continue to have a decrease in player base. War for cybertron had a peak player base of only 37 players last month and before that month they had a peak player base of only 35. Fall of cybertron was even more dead with a peak player base of only 20. Check this out for yourself on the steam charts.
Activision has to pay to keep the servers running so why would they on a game they can't sell and one that really has no players?
Tl//DR: FOC and WFC were factually dead and why would Activision pay to keep the servers running on a game no one is playing?

To be fair.. Destiny isn't as old as WFC or FOC

I always knew this day would come, and it came a lot later than I expected. Still, these are the games that got me into collecting TFs as an adult, and I have a lot of great memories associated with them. They were so much more dynamic than your average multiplayer and a perfect synergy of what makes Transformers great. It\'s a shame they tried to continue the series with the half-assed Rise of the Dark Spark. It had so much potential.

No more Ancients battles.

Sucks because due to this pandemic, I was looking to play a lot of my old games on my ps3 especially ROTF, WFC, DOTM, and FOC. Man this is truly depressing. I really wanted to platinum those games but now I can't

Til all are one! R.I.P WFC from Cybertron's Elite.

Welp that\'s what happens when Activision gets involved with anything. What a trash company.

The game could still be run on a server, the game is made for old pc's and xbox 360 and ps3 I don't think it would take much resources to run servers for them.
Here is a good example of Bungie or Activision still keeping the old Destiny 1 servers even though they don't earn money from it.

What's weird is the order. Why not shut down the next gen ports last and the original servers last?
Still, hope Certain Affinities Transformers game gets more press soon, or if Activision will try again for the next generation of consoles.

WFC multiplayer was already essentially dead thanks to all the cheaters and hackers.
Shame about escalation and co-op though.
And FOC? only team deathmatch had players left in it, and that was thoroughly dull after playing it for so many years.
This is a shame for friends that share the game, but otherwise not a huge change.

Hyperbole much?
They're not going to continue spending money supporting the servers for games they can't even sell anymore. Nobody does anything for free.

As far as we know it still is. There was an earnings report from a month or two ago that listed several projects that they were working on and Transformers was on the list. There's more than likely some delays due to the pandemic but I agree it would be nice to have some official announcement or something to start getting people hyped. They were probably waiting for sdcc but now that the con has been canceled, hopefully they announce it soon.

well that sucks

Fack. Is this effective immediately?? Woulda liked to have given WFC one last co-op hurrah
