Takara Tomy Mall has just uploaded the Transformers Generation Selects Super Megatron Web Comic/Manga on their listing for the toy.
This time we have in fact a 2-part web comic/manga which seems to be linked to the events of previous Generation Selects Star Convoy and Seacons stories. In part 1 we can see a flashback with Convoy/Optimus Prime and Galvatron face Unicron and his armada of small Cybertron Unicron clones while back in 2011. Then, we get back to the battle against Optimus and King Poseidon (Piranacon) which is interrupted by the arriving of Super Megatron (who seemed to have taken down Halfshell previously). King Poseidon now battles against Super Megatron revealing a new “combat mode” transforming his limbs into weapons, but he’s defeated easily by the upgraded Decepticon leader.
Part 2 reveals the next battle. With King Poseidon out, now Super Megatron and Convoy/Optimus Prime clash. Optimus uses his silver Matrix and becomes Star Convoy again. He transforms into a new battle station mode (which can be recreated with the toy) and defeats Super Megatron. But the treacherous Megatron forces Optimus to hand him the Matrix in order to save some innocent inhabitants. Now, Super Megatron powers up again, and a second alt mode is revealed! A new tank form which seems a homage to Ultra Megatron (also seen only in the old G1 TV Magazine Battlestars: Return Of Convoy pages).
This new alt mode gives us a lot to think. So far, many of the new alt modes, combinations or configurations seen in these comics are possible to recreate with the toys. Could Super Megatron toy also transform into this tank mode? We can spot tank treads in the first stock images of the toy. Time will tell if this is possible or not.
You can download the pdf files of part 1 here and part 2 here. Alternatively, you can check out the mirrored images after the jump. Then sound off on the 2005 Boards!
WishfulThinking
The Hasbro Team using the Time Shed to go back and make Titans Return PM Prime transform like PotP Optimus Prime…
ScorponokIsHere
It makes sense if you understand linear time. POTP Prime didn't exist when they retooled Titan Master Powermaster Prime from Combiner Wars Magnus. Like, it makes sense to me they wouldn't violate the integrity of the timestream to make a certain kind of Powermaster Prime, I dunno.
SPLIT LIP
Except it would've at least had the, y'know, actual gimmick of the cab transforming into its own robot and combining with the trailer. (something the OG Star Convoy didn't have)
So yeah it really doesn't make sense that they used what is basically the Ginrai transformation on a character who didn't use it, and used the non-transforming cab mould for the one that had a transforming cab.
RodimusRex
I do wish they had retooled Star Convoy from Ginrai instead of PotP Optimus. It's a better figure.
ScorponokIsHere
yeah you could buy the new retooled-from-POTP Ginrai to stand next to the God Ginrai toy they literally just put out, can't imagine why they didn't immediately make a second, worse one instead of the second Star Convoy ever
TheLastBlade
They had a super robot gimmick, but instead of making a ginrai version, they made star convoy. Fucking lol.
Mercurius
My biggest problem with the PotP Optimus is the faux chest windshield. I'm never a fan of that being a thing, even going back to the original Powermaster Optimus in the 80s. I kind of forgave it on the Nemesis Prime version of PotP that came out, but it always bugs me when Optimus or Starscream have faux chests.
WishfulThinking
Star Convoy shines less as actual Star Convoy and functions more as G1 Optimus (the cab transforms into G1 Optimus with yellow eyes) where the trailer gives him a nice super robot mode rather than becomes a base. I mean, yeah, we have Earthrise Optimus now. But, he doesn't have the super robot mode.

Indeed I do.
Especially since he has the treads on the trailer/legs thing going on.
FD3S
It's the best option for a modern official Star Convoy that currently exists right now even if does kinda suffer from being a remold of POTP Prime. If you're willing to go into the 3P realm, MMC's Stellarus Prominon gets a lot closer to the mark in terms of aesthetics but has its own tradeoffs (very simple for it's size, barely any paint, knee design isn't the greatest).
TheLastBlade
Star convoy suffers from early exclusive syndrome. He also has all the flaws of the potp Optimus.
TargetmasterJoe
Jog my memory, what upcoming figure? You mean Armada Optimus?
IgnikaMarcus
And with a certain upcoming figure they could even do him with the evolution gimmick again.

His aftermarket isn’t much higher than his original retail. However, I think they’ll do another eventually.
Yoshimon7
Not worth it but I also don’t see them reissuing it or making a new version anytime soon. So really depends on if you REALLY want that figure for those prices or not.
Got him when he first released and he’s just an OK figure. Definitely not worth the current aftermarket prices.

As someone who only got back into TFs in the last year, is Selects Star Convoy worth paying the current aftermarket prices to pair with Star Saber, or do we think there could be either a reissue or a new version?
Tungg
awesome. I’ll have to some clear mail polish
Cal
Mine had the same problem. The solution is a dose of nail polish on the peg to tighten the connection. The wing stays tabbed in securely every time.
Tungg
Does anyone have a fix for the wings not tabbing in?
One of my wings just pops back off the tab when I collapse it for robot mode
