Thanks to 2005 Boards member Snaku for sharing in our forums our first in-hand images of the new WizKids’ G1 Transformers Deep Cuts Miniatures.
The Deep Cut Miniatures are unpainted G1 inspired Transformers figurines, and yes… you have to paint them completely. Wave 1 consist of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream. Each figure is nicely sculpted (for a figure this size) and they really catch the spirit of the G1 cartoon. Snaku shared for us some details about these figurines:
- Each figure come with waterslide decals (white sheet) or stickers (yellow sheet). You can choose which to apply according to your preferences or abilities.
- Either waterslides or stickers have the respective faction symbol, one of the opposing faction symbol, and one shattered glass version, with the exception of Optimus Prime who includes a transparent background grey outline symbol.
- Sizes:
- Optimus: 74mm to the to of his antenna.
- Megatron: 73mm to the top of his head and 80mm to the top of his gun barrel.
- Starscream: 77mm to his head, 80 to his jet intake, but keep in mind he’s elevated by his jet exhaust. 69mm from his head to his heel.
- Bumblebee: 60mm.
Wave 1 is now scheduled for release on January 20, 2020 for economic $4.99, but it seems they have been spotted at some comic stores at the moment.

Sure but I didn't have any intention of using them for gaming. I just wanted the minis.
WishfulThinking
Probably not.
My preference for Minis is just using the legion/legends class figures anyway. Unless you're using DnD/Pathfinder 1-inch square maps for your gaming, these work the best IMO.

I hadn't considered that. Looks like RenegadeStudio does make at least some minis so it's entirely possible. For some reason I thought Wizkids was owned by Hasbro (Hasbro owns WotC and I had it in my head that Wizkids was owned by them) but it turns out they're owned by NECA.
If that's the case, that's extremely annoying. Wizkids makes very nice minis and I was loving the G1 style. The RenegadeStudio rulebook shows what I believe to be Evergreen designs on the cover so I'm not super optimistic that they'd be making G1 style minis.
WishfulThinking
I'm wondering if the new D20 RPG coming out made a difference. It could be that the minis licensing was transferred to the new company and Hasbro pulled the plug on Wizkids for now.

I decided to go looking for updates since it's been over a year since the first two figures of Wave 2 released and I was wondering if there'd been any news on Ironhide and Laserbeak/Frenzy. On Wizkids' site, there doesn't seem to be any mention of the remaining figures at all, let alone a release date and I can't find any other news. That's disappointing. I wonder if the line has been cancelled or it's just on an extended hiatus due to covid or whatever. If anybody has any additional information, let us know. I was really hoping this line would go far.

I don't have any combiner wars figures but here's a couple of Titans.

Has anyone posted pictures of these next to cw combiners or city mode titans? Im just wondering if they would look cool displayed together in a diorama.

My local game store got Soundwave and Arcee in. They didn't know when Ironhide and Laserbeak/Rumble are coming though.

It's interesting just how much Soundwave is modeled after the MP. Not just the shoulder and knee details, but the elbow joints, the detail on his butt, even the hinges on the sides of his legs.
MagnusAfterDark
I can't believe we have to wait until September for their release.
Arkimus Prime
I care.

I was pretty interested in this stuff until it ended up being straight up G1 designs again. Nothing bores me faster than that.

You can find them on Amazon. They're a little marked up but not too bad.
Canbot
I can't find these anywhere, wave 1. Does anybody have a tip on a link?

I'm not much of a war gamer, but I will consider checking this out. Thanks for the heads up.

Funny thing is I do play a warforged druid. Started out as circle of the moon so I could be a transformer but ended up switching to circle of the shepherd so that I could do lots of summons. The Soundwave angle never occurred to me but I do summon a bunch of giant eagle all the time and I've got minis for them that I haven't painted yet (well,I painted one up as Zoar from Motu but I haven't painted the others yet). I should do them in Laserbeak and Buzzsaw colors
Trikeboy
And now I'm creating a new D&D character. Combine it with the Beast Wars Soundwave so he can wildshape into an alligator and bat.
Trikeboy
Check out Bot War. It was created as a Transformers Wargame but they had to make different minis to stay on Hasbro's good side.

This has done nothing but strengthen my desire for a The Transformers RPG. I don't care how many books I need just to create a campaign that includes the Headmasters, Targetmasters, Powermasters, combiners, etc. Nor would I feel any concern if I had to buy reissues of these metal miniatures for nights where I can actually do a G1 campaign. And I definitely would not mind having Unicron suddenly appear, impale the Autobot/Decepticon who was played by an obnoxious munchkin (read: power-player), before having the character's head be the first to go. So here is to the hope that leads to that happening.

These would make pretty good pieces for a board game of some sort.
