We had recently reported that Amazon Japan had uploaded a new listing for a Japanese release of IDW Drift mini-series this year. Now, via Village Books Twitter, we have our first look at the cover of this release.
This cover comes courtesy of artist Nagi Miyako who has drawn several packaging art for Takara Tomy Legends line, E-Hobby Cloud illustrations, and the cover of the Japanese release of IDW The Transformers: Chaos comics.
The IDW Drift 4-issue mini-series was originally published in 2010 telling the dark and mysterious origin of new Autobot Drift. The Japanese release will collect the four original issues for 2420 Yen ($22.00 approximately) and it’s due to release in November 29th, 2019.
Click on the bar to see the beautiful cover art and let us know your impressions on how this story will be received by Japanese fans.

Now, full circle, Drift has finally become a Japanese manga illustration. I\'m sure his inner weeaboo is doing ninja cartwheels right now.

Ooooh….
Rodimus Prime
No, I was talking about your joke.

He's more like a new character in a sequel, this is more Mary Sue than Windblade, the character was there from the beginning with two swords. Whose since been included in all future projects in different universes.

There's strong Japanese themes in Drift?
More like surface-level weeb pandering. Nothing in Drift was particularly "Japanese" in its themes or stories beyond him looking like a Japanese mecha. It was remarkably shallow.
I believe he's tongue-in-cheek referencing a comment made by Shane McCarthy.

Still need a decent transformable IDW styled Drift figure…
Great rendition btw. Loving that Japan centric art.

I'm just making bad jokes, don't mind me. Though it really is interesting to see many of these 'new' characters who were created during the IDW Generation who have successfully developed their own following and traction to a wider audience.
Black Convoy
It depends on the eye of the viewer. The artist is Japanese, so I don't think he feels offended at all.
Hadlen_Weltall
Am I wrong to feel like this is slightly racist? …Samurai Robot, cherry blossoms….
Bad joke, I know. No offense intended.
Haywired
It'll work for the Japanese readers.

Well, they really like cliché characters, so I guess this one is gonna be a huge success.

This mini was probably the best thing McCarthy wrote, at least within the IDWverse. And I kinda dig Wing, even though I think he should be retconned into being the actual Wingwaver Wing.
Mudslide
Yep. The vitriol was highly refined and weapons grade.

Ahhh this takes me back, remember when people got so pissy over Drift for literally no reason? I remember. I'm never gonna stop reminding idiots how they overreacted in regards to him. People were so overly cynical when he was introduced yet nowadays they embrace practically every stupid OC that IDW comes up with.

I think they will like it. There's a lot of Wing fanart in Japanese.
