We have another Studio Series reveal today. Following our first in-hand images of Studio Series Shockwave, now we have new in-hand images of the next Studio Series Constructicon: SS-53 Mixmaster!
Mixmaster is a completely new Voyager mold that can now combine with the rest of Studio Series Constructicons to form Devastator. He’s got a movie-accurate robot and alt mode including the infamous “Decepti-dog hood ornament”.
We also have our first look at Studio Series Devastator’s face (hidden inside the mixing truck cab) which shows tons of details and features a correct movie-accurate red deco and green eyes. Enough? You can even open Devastator’s mouth completely!
We are one step closer to see the complete Studio Series Devastator! This figure is expected for release on 2020. Check out all the mirrored images after the jump and sound off your impressions on the 2005 Boards!

That's the point I'm making. If you try to make sense of the combination as it's shown, you can't.
So, for the toy, they took Devy and reverse engineered the components so the combined mode has stuff where it needs to be (his crane/scoops on the arm, for example).
They couldn't make it work both combined and apart, so they focused on nailing the mode most people will likely end up displaying him in.
SinisterSpinister
Do you mean the one that forms part of the other leg, alongside yellow Rampage/Skipjack?
EDIT:My bad, that was a yellow dump truck, at least according to the wiki.

i have replayed the scene and i cant manage to see the bulldozer that goes with longhaul, although its not 4k so maybe one needs 4k to see it, seriously, somebody should post screenshots
edit: technically one can see scrapmetal's alt mode for a second when the constructicon vehicles line up
Beastwarsfan95
The shovels can be seen walking before the arm slams into them. Weird. There's also another smaller bulldozer who forms part of the leg with Long Haul.

Which is why it's smart they look to have worked backwards. Take the Devy model and figure out how to get the general look correct using the various components.
They needed a crane on his arm but also three shovels? Okay cool he's got Scrapmetal and Hightower over there.

Hasbro has clearly been studying these films an insane amount, in addition to the CGI models they finally have their hands on. I remember when Long Haul was revealed, a whole bunch of people were confused about his choice of alt mode – because the original toy used an alt mode based on early concept art, which the damn robot mode details on the final design correspond too. But the SS alt mode is indeed in the movie. It's appearance is just so brief that most people didn't even notice it was there.
(Also, there's a massive continuity error, with the dump truck first appearing on a hill, and then suddenly materializing behind Spitz and Simmons just in time for it to transform into Devastator's hand. This is just one of many editing errors in that scene alone. It's no wonder neither fans nor Hasbro can settle on an accurate count of how many constructicons are part of the on-screen Devastator.)

New Stock Images for 2020 Studio Series Figures and Video Review for Mixmaster

100% there are, its too large of a piece for it to be left off and movie accuracy indicates it goes up above the grinder neck on his back.
TickTockGoesTheClock
Super true. It sucks that the cab comes off but there really isn't any other place. I just hope there are tabs on Devy for the hood to go.
f-primusunicron
seeing how mixmaster transforms the other option would have been an overly complicated arm that could collapse in robot and vehicle modes, but also would require an space for it on the vortex grinder , so yeah, while i hate partsforming usually i dont see any other way they could have made it work
DrOblivian
literally all i do is overthink shit. lol
my train of thought went like this though if your curious.
-if it partsforms, there's a reason for it. the designers aren't dumb, especially with a part that large.
-from Tonton's review, he was clearly indicating where it would go in combined mode.
so I checked the clip of the film and low and behold, there the cab is on the back of devastator right where TonTon was indicating it would go.

It's not $300 for Devastator, it's $300 for Devastator, two deluxes, four voyagers, and two leaders
I have no idea why you spent so much time thinking about something so incredibly trivial, but I love it
DrOblivian
Seems like it, he did keep holding it up over where the back of Devastator would be. So i'm guessing he was explaining that it pegs onto Scavenger on top somewhere.
it's a shame that it partsforms. But considering how much of this devastator DOSENT partsform, a few minor compromises doesn't bother me. Especially considering how historically, combiners have a tendency to partsform a hell of a hole lot more than what's been shown with devastator at the moment.
I do think that they could have put the hood part on some kind of swinging arm so that it could come up and over to sit onto the back of Devy, or the easier solution, swing under and sit on daddy's chest somewhere.
That being said. The way that Devastator's head transforms in ROTF is actually misleading. In the film, the hood/front half is shown separating and completely disappearing revealing Devastator's head inside.

However once Devastator is transformed, the cab is totally just chilling up on his back right behind the grinder like it was always there, hell, if you look closely in the video, it's actually already there when the head is transforming. (you can see the grill of the front of the truck juuust peeking out over the top during the head transformation)

so yes, the partforming is unfortunate, but it's for the sake of accuracy in combined mode. which as far as i'm concerned is plenty of justification for it.
mx-01 archon
Probably just pegs onto the back somewhere, on Scavenger or Overload.
ib4cx3pt
so does the front of the cab tab somewhere else when he is combined. a little disappointed it has to come off and cant transform but its fine

The Green Goblin truck from Maximum Overdrive is wetting itself (himself?) right now.
