AUTOBOTS – Transform… and ROLL OUT! MP-44 Optimus Prime has rolled into TFW2005 HQ and we have an in depth gallery showing what he’s got. MP-44 is the third Masterpiece Optimus Prime version, this time focusing on a clean cartoon aesthetic with modern engineering to match MP-36 Megatron. He’s got a sleeker, more articulated body and very toon accurate head sculpt(s). The accessories are packed too, full trailer with removable repair bay that now has multiple transformations of it’s own, Roller, energy axe, battle damaged head and body piece, Season 1 toon head, Starscream head and intakes, Matrix of Leadership, rocket backpack, energy beam effects for them or the gun, gas pump and hose, an under-trailer container for some of these things, and of course his trusty laser rifle. In addition, we also get 3 human figures with head, knee, elbow and waist articulation in various levels – Spike, Sparkplug and Carly. They feature magnets in their feet so they can easily stand and pose at various points of the trailer. They can also fit inside the cab when Optimus is in vehicle mode.
When they first announced him, I was not super hype. MP-10 was still a solid figure, and there are a lot more characters I’d like officially done in MP scale (Season 1 roster, come on!). But, he did look sharp. Then the price came, and whoofa. He is super expensive compared to previous releases of similar figures. I get inflation and new engineering, but it still stings. After getting him in hand though, I don’t think I could go back. I’ve already made the official swap on the shelves, this is now the primary Prime for me. MP-10 is now in a side vehicle mode display. The proportions are overall better, the head sculpt is fantastic. Colors pop and the eyes are not dead. Posing is finicky a bit, and he has potential for knee issues. I knew he had them, knew how to avoid, and still stripped the ratchet on one leg. But even with that, he still shines. The official pics don’t do it justice. In hand, he feels great and looks sharp. I still don’t know if it’s worth the price, but if price was no issue, it would be my choice for a centerpiece Optimus Prime.
Bottom line, if he’s in your budget, and you dig the toon styling, he is worth a pick up. Paired with MP-36, nothing represents G1 better.
We’ve run him through the motions and have a massive (for me) 230 shot gallery showing off all his tricks with some fancy pants shots at the end. Click the gallery below to check them out! We’ve also attached some key shots to this story after the break!
He’s in stock now and shipping from TFSource!

Damn I'm late!
Prime is a tad shorter than Megatron. Megs is the big dawg, Prime is the underdog. Also, when it comes to price, unfortunately Prime has been pushing a larger price point since day one. Even the fake MP Primes are pushing 200 (or more). That's just the way it is.

Still amazing! Now that Starscream and the other seekers are coming out, the set will be that much closer too "perfection".
I don't regret one dime spent, especially considering it's now even more money. Still no scratches with tight joints.

They’re essentially the same height:

David Keon?
SPLIT LIP
Keon is usually taller than Optimus by a little bit.
Also it doesn’t matter what they turn into, because Megatron grows in size anyway.

The Knock off copy is available for pre-order.

He\'s also too expensive.

So, Mp-44.
Looks good, in both robot and Lorry mode.
But.
Much like Mp-10, is still shorter than Mp-36 Megatron.
meant to be the same size in real life, probably should be the other way round.
Megatron turns into a gun, Optimus Prime turns into a Lorry.
Nuff said.

Hey everyone so I\'ve been thinking hard about picking up MP-44 but I\'m just not sold on it just yet so I was wondering if anyone who has MP-44 how they like him just debating on picking him up

Yeah I read in another post here or on YouTube, I don’t remember exactly. But, someone broke down how many times you have to hold the button, (5x) until you come to Cullen clips. I wish Cullen got more lines though.
But thank you for clearing up the other stand. I didn’t really think there was one under the floor boards of the trailer but they did pack a lot in MM-44.

The voice clips will reset to the beginning if you turn off the sound feature. That’s normal.
The other stand come with MP Dinobot. Hopefully at some point they’ll sell that stand separately.

Anyone else think of the G1 Transformers theme song when you see this or is it just me?

My review is that It's a mixed bag… Both have their pros and cons. Mp 10 works better with its trailer in truck mode, where mp 44 seems to have developed both separately and then rushed to put them together. Mp 44 is definitely more poseable in robot mode and feels sturdy, but he will unpeg if you play with him. But let's face it, mp 10 can beat up mp 44. Their transformations are actually very similar, but 44 is just too involved and over engineered. The knees are fine, but I can see why they tend to break.
I'm not really into the complete cartoon aesthetic, I'd have preferred the silver stripe in truck mode with the painted windshield wipers, door handles, etc. I'd like a silver face instead of gray and silver for the midsection and upper thighs instead of the white… I'm open on those yellow parts…
My gripe on all the mp convoy/Prime figures is their truck modes. The gas tanks have all been off and just unrealistic and no where near that original toy. Mp 44 has pizza cutter back wheels tires and the trailer wheels are just too small… They should be bigger and at least match the back wheels of the cab. As for roller, I prefer mp 10 roller… As I think there's too much silver on the rims.
The flight stand should have worked, this one is just too weak. It was advertised, on the back of the box, but not the instructions… That's unforgivable considering its price.
Also, why is the jetpack's compatibility with mp sideswipe not in the instructions?
Last point .. Did everyone get the pin or was it just happenstance?

Don't pull directly up when trying to operate his ab crunches. People are pulling directly where the rivet is at instead of pulling the designed tabs for the abcrunch
My suggestion is to just wait at some point people will part with theirs for what ever reasons;got tired of MPs, or switched it out for a reissue. When I first got into MPs MP-10 was going for 240-300 dollars way more than I wanted to spend at the time. I eventually picked one up for $80, when the Year of the Horse one dropped.

After observing several reviews I have to admit. This is a fantastic prime. I had my doubts but that robot mode and cab mode is stunning. I do hope they do release just the cab variant as 459 dollars translated into canadian funny money would be 610 dollars plus shipping would probably be 680 dollars. That is restrictive for me. But Ill wait to see…if the US version does this as I assume they may provide that option

That group shot with Prime and his autobots is awesome!

Literally just ordered mine. Anything I should expect? I know about the knees and paint chipping.
