As it was announced previously, Takara Tomy has just opened pre-orders for the new War For Cybertron Unicron via Takara Tomy Mall website.
Thanks to our very own 2005 Boards mod Gamerlingual for giving us the heads up about this news. Now Japanese fans can pre-order Unicron here for 75,600 Yen which is $696.05 approximately. Almost $120 more than the $574.99 asked in the Haslab crowdfunding.
The reservation period will be from July 26th, 2019 at 12:00 to August 30th 2019 at 13:00 with a limit of just 2 orders per customer and expected for delivery by the beginning of 2021. The order information on the website indicates that if the Haslab Unicron Crowdfunding does not reach its 8000 backers goal, Unicron won’t be produced and all orders will be cancelled.
Now, it’s unclear if these orders will be part of Haslab crowdfunding backers amount or if they will be just added as extra international orders to the original 8000 US backers in the crowdfunding. We may find more official information via Tokyo Toy Show event in a few days.

if it doesnt get backers it wont get made since without the backers there is no guarantee of sales

I do not disagree with anything you have put forward. Makes sense. I just think for a project like this they will move forward with it. Having the backers merely will justify their reason for doing it and I think they do it to test the fans to see how far they can push the boundaries. I really hope they make it and yes I am one of the backers so I want them to succeed at all cost

I don't think you understand the way that the production pipeline works. In a typical retail scenario, Hasbro will produce their 10,000 units, which the retailers order. Done deal. Hasbro's made their sale. They don't need to worry about the logistics of selling the individual units, or potentially having to clearance them out, or whatever.
In this case, though, with no retailer backing, Hasbro assumes all the risk. If they can't sell all 8,000 units, that's on them to foot the bill on warehousing costs and all manner of extra expenses until they do. They could foot all those extra costs, plus the main cost of going to production in the first place, on a gamble, and incur the wrath of the shareholders. Or they could cut their losses, lick their wounds over the thousands of dollars they spent on R&D, and just move on with their lives.
I personally fully expect this project to succeed, so the point will be moot. But this conspiracy theorizing has to stop. This crowdfund is in place for a reason, and isn't about putting on airs or whatever.

Is everyone gonna have their buttholes all clenched tight for the next month?
Relax. Please. This isn't going to fail.
Orders from Japan and Asia alone have probably already funded it, and if not yet, they will by the deadline.
Chill out.

i think you underestimate the fans and the brand in itself. Trypticon was the weakest of the titans that's been released and that still sold well. for the size of the toy, it's only 100 lucks more than mp44 and people grabbed that one up. It's a fair assestment that they don't want to spend x amount of dollars to see it fail, but it's takara/hasbro, they have enough fans and advertising, plus it cost much less than third party combiners etc, and i for one like many that collect official and third party will get it.

On what grounds?
In the position they're in right now, cancelling the project can be chalked up under acceptible losses. Putting themselves a couple million in the hole, after being shown that there isn't enough demand to sell through all their units, that's foolhardy.
You're operating under the sunk-cost fallacy – that they've already invested time and money, might as well go all the way. But the fact is, there's even more time and significantly more money that go to waste if they go off half-cocked and push this through the finishing line without the proper insurance in place.

backers or not i have a feeling they will release this no matter what, would be foolish not to

I agree with every word you said. Very wise and very well said.

No
fake
Does this mean, once it gets the green light, it will become a mass market product at a higher price?

Siiiiiigh.
I'm gonna end up buying this. I know I am. I know I'm too weak to resist.
I'm gonna hem and haw about it for a month and at the last minute I'll do it.
Shit.

5217 yen vs 6853 yen, that's still a 30% markup, though.
Unicron is 62488 yen in the states vs 75600 yen in Japan. That would be a 20% price difference. Not saying the takara release shouldn't be cheaper, however it is par for the course for them in my opinion.
Wish we had a way to tell how many people have ordered in Japan so far.
As @primalxconvoy said, Japanese apartments are generally pretty tiny and cramped! God knows I don't have space for a 70cm room mate in my 1 room apartment.

Liked and removed the like just so I could like again.
Unicron is an inevitability. Nothing can stop his desti—
Hey, keep that matrix away from him!
