And we have an amazing set of images of the War For Cybertron Unicron gray prototype that is shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
This gray resin prototype is a fully functioning toy, and it really shows off an impressive amount of detail. Spikes, lines (and we mean a lot of lines), surfaces and more than you can expect. We can see that designers really put a lot of love and work into the sculpting. Unicron looks as if he was taken from the movie! We also have a closer look at some gimmicks like the opening mouth with inner teeth. Remember that Unicron is the very first Hasbro’s crowdfunding project. We need to reach a goal of 8000 supporters for him to be produced. You can support Unicron here.
But there’s more coming tonight! Stay tuned with TFW2005 coverage since Hasbro announced that they will be transforming this prototype live at the event (from planet to robot) shortly.Sadly the transformation was cancelled at the last minute. They just showed the prototype in planet mode, and you can see the images here.
Not much left to say, click on the bar to see all our images and then chime in your impressions on the 2005 Boards!

Exactly! Why doesn't everyone see this?
Shit really? I love that figure.
Yup, I saw it from the back and that was it, no chance. And before anyone jumps in with "well I don't display my figures from the back" well sometimes I do! And I play with my figures too and for 600$ I expect sleek integration of parts. If that expectation is too high then the cost is too much.

What! Don't you get?

Price tag is ridiculous. All the other titan class figures came in at approx $150-$200 range but nearly $600? No thank you

I do definitely want this figure, but not enough to pay such an absurd price for it.. For something 'THAT' large, I expected it to have some form of electronics. It would have been great if they cleaned up some audio files from the 80's film and added them, or at least gave him glowing eyes or something.. I think I'll just wait for a 3rd party company to release their own and much better version of the figure, and at something more affordable. In the meantime I'll just stick to my 25th anniversary figure & Armada Unicron.

Um, yea no thanks. Even when he came out in the movie I was not at all impressed. A transforming planet?? LOL. Pass on this fella for sure. TG is big enough and anyhthing beyond that is just a bit absurd. My two cents on this subject…

I was fortunate enough to see this in person and it is incredible. I ordered the day I saw this. I'm very curious to see if this project gets funded. Hasbro is following the success of the Haslab Star Wars Sail Barge with this project, but I don't know if TF fans are as prepared to spend large amounts as the SW fans. We will see. I predict that this project will get funded, but it will be close.
GAUGE
I knew it all along. No electronics at all.
deaculpa
So this is $100 more than mp44…
Hmm, is this underpriced or is mp44 overpriced?
lordmegatron64
I was so onboard at first…Then I saw all the disgusting kibble. 600$? No thanks.

No elrctronics but hasnt said no to a possible detatchable head even if at this point he doesnt have thst option.
But id say he will….
johndoe4880
Agreed john said there wasn't any electronics at all
johndoe4880
didn't know if this video has been posted or not. but you can transform unicron in 50 steps there is no electronics in it and he is 27 inch tall but 30 inch outside of the ring in planet Mode. and its weights about 20 pounds

I plan on building a display case, but I also plan on playing with him. Have smaller bots screaming underneath. Have Unicorn eat them. A face off with my Lego Death Star. Play the Unicron theme while flying him around, it even doubles as exercise!
To each their own. It isn't worthwhile to some, but it is worthwhile to there of us. Either for okay value and/or display.
I cannot wait to transform him. Then again, I really enjoyed building my Lego Death Star.

Shudders
Disturbing lol
Anyway john also comes across as being very ethusiastic about tfs which i like about him. Theres no doubt that unicron will go through a few changes before hes ready.
Id like to see galvatrons ship that can be stored in planet mode and maybe a battled damaged megatron to go with him as possible accessories. For the money thry are asking for id like a bit more playability
dragologer
AmbrojhIts Unicron, what play value do grown ass men want? Majority of those who will buy this will either display in robot mode or planet mode, some of us may buy two, but how many are going to actually play with this piece?
……Yeah. thats an enourmous waste of money.
you\'re going to pay 600$ for this and NOT play with it?….Oh brother.
If this thing actually gets made (which i am backing) I will be spending HOURS playing with it.
what sence is there in standing this masterpiece up and just…..letting it collect dust. how much fun is that? None.

I think this will be a big open window with a neon sign on it for the 3P companies that do smaller scale (or no particular scale) to do their own attempt at Unicron.
The reactions have been such a mixed bag. After the OSKO GT-Devy, I swore off larger bots. Even if this were under a hundred bucks, I value my marriage more than a chunk of plastic. Now, if it were under a hundred bucks AND under 12", then maybe just maybe there could be hope for this guy.
Time will tell

Yep, exactly. The whole kickstarter facade was to trick people into making a very expensive impulse buy that they wouldn't have otherwise. Quite simply, its an "anti-ollies" maneuver, and I fully expect them to abuse it going forward if Unicron see's any semblance of success.
Which leads to another gripe I have with hasbro, has anyone else noticed that the "giftsets" are actually priced $5-$10 higher than the components MSRP? Heck, the skywarp set is actually missing effect parts you would have normally got if you had bought the target-masters separately. Considering a bunch of these releases come in plain cardboard box's, I find the practice quite insulting, especially considering the fact siege figures had a sharp markup already.
Honestly I don't know how to process everything that has happened this week, but truthfully, this massive dump of new products and preorders has left me feeling burned out. It was just way to much all at once, and I have quickly realized just how expensive and difficult it has became to collect all of the official releases.
Snake_eyes1975
I'm not worried about that myself..
But the alt mode for a toy unicron has always been, and always will be NOT FUN. Sure you can have a huge static unicron with your siege display…its still out of scale..its not even close..its not even worth displaying in bot mode..
Planet mode…what does it do? Well…it looks like it did in the movie. And it has chomping jaws.
I'm sorry..that's just LAME.
Plus, this whole "crowdfunding" thing is FAKE. They are making it no matter what. They already have plans of it being a mall exclusive? I guess they are counting on us TF fanboys to crowdfund whatever the hell they make?
I'm sorry…this is dumb.
Should have done a crowd funded MP devastator. How about a true G1 MP Metroplex?!
I can think of 20 other crowdfund worthy projects other than unicron that I would put the cash into no prob.
The Jabba sail barge is worthy of the crowdfund experiment…its an amazing display piece..a cool toy..this? Boooooooriiiiing
reluttr
It's just to damn big, there is a very high risk of actually injuring yourself trying to transform this, and even if you dont get pinched, it will just be unpleasant to do. To me, thats a big fail for a product who's driving gimmick is being able to change it between two forms.
Snake_eyes1975
I love the 86 movie…
I'm sorry…but Unicron is just not a character I'm in love with and need to have like this.
The previous Jabba sail barge was amazing..it was crowdfunded…it worked..and was a missing piece for star wars collectors to finally have. It's a great display piece, a cool toy and play set…to me it really seemed worth the money, and I'm not a star wars collector.
That said, this is a glorified titan class. I'm sure there's more to it…im sure it has a ton of features…but I have a huge mancave of toys and collectibles..I just done want a huge ( still MASSIVLY UNDERSCALED) unicron.
I get the hype…but to me..this is still the old armada level of toy. Unicron is SO big..SO MASSIVE…I think a toy is just not necessary.
I would never see myself transform it…I dont think I would display it with my TF collection in either mode..
I would have MUCH rather had a metroplex V2 that was a true..massive city bot. A true playset…something that can interact with other toys.
This? This just does nothing for me and my collection…
dragon
Maybe third party company will make something like that add odd on for toy and light up lights to put on ring on planet mode
Don’t see mold toy looks good it’s shake it won’t be made to have proper looking Unicron finally
Play value that’s laugh this Unicron have more play value to generation 1 red alert , bumblebee, prime, it was g1 combiners and city transformers headmasters that have more play value to any other g1 toy
