Last year, Japanese publisher Village Books announced the Japanese release of successful and fan-favorite IDW Transformers: Last Stand Of The Wreckers.
IDW’s 5-issue mini-series Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers was released in 2010, and became a fan-favorite story in the IDW Transformers universe.
The Japanese release of this book has been re-scheduled for July 31st, 2019 (it was going to be release by May 30th) but now, via a listing on Amazon.jp, we have our first look at the amazing cover by artist Tajima Tasuku. He has worked in several Takara Tomy Legends manga and card illustrations.

It was super apparent to me while I was reading phase 1 while reading phase 2 ongoing at the same time; I'd say that AHM is kind of where the story picks up, but really hits its' stride even later.

There was a major event in IDW that had some influence on LSOTW but the do a good job of recapping the relevant bits.

The miniseries and spotlight format of the beginning of the IDW wasn't bad, but it did leave the stories disjointed and not terribly engaging from one issue to the next. This is definitely the story where that changed permanently as the IDW continuity finally found its voice.

lol good
I hope they get to Phase 2 soon though; Phase 1 is kinda boring in comparison, I've found.

When I first picked it up, I hadn't read a Transformers comic in ages. You won't be lost so all. I highly recommend reading it.

I think it works more than well enough on its own.

I haven't read any of the idw comics before. Could I just start reading LSOTW as my starting point, or would I be missing out on a lot of context?

Megatron: Origin, For All Mankind, International Incident, Revenge of the Decepticons and Chaos Theory and Chaos were released too.

Japan was spared Heart of Darkness.

So how much of 1dw do Japanese fans have so far? Like is MTMTE out there before LSOTW?
ZombehDino
Beautiful cover, but it's definitely a shame that the Japanese fans had to wait so long for this. LSotW (and the whole Wreckers saga really) is not only one of the highlights of the IDW05 continuity but of Transformers fiction in general. Amazing book.

Wait, Last of the Wreckers was released in 2010? That was almost a decade ago.
I feel old.

I love that cover! I might have to pick it up just for the cover.

Sigh. I miss this continuity.

So from what I gather Japan has AHM and LSOTW now/soon, and I've seen Takara rumblings about MTMTE getting a translation.
But other than that and a good chunk of Marvel G1 I don't think anything else has seen a release in Japan.
Which is good, I've seen people just post synopses about IDW incarnations of characters/IDW exclusive characters on Pixiv when they do art of them as a preface, and I'm not entirely sure about the fansub community over there in general for the comics or the shows.
Smitty.1981
I'd really like to see how they react to LSOTW over there and if there are any changes, other than names.

Absolutely gorgeous.

I can confirm that Japanese fans follow the IDW stuff at least to some extent – when I was in Tokyo last summer one of the big specialty toy shops had a display of 3P IDW guys in a pretty prominent location, complete with a \"frame\" made out of panels from the comics. I\'ve got photos somewhere but not on this computer.
The idea that they\'re actually producing it for a domestic release over there is pretty heartening and a testament to exactly how frickin\' good LSOTW is.
