Transformers news, often being true to their name, can sometimes be more than meets the eye. It can turn up on the most unlikely of places. As is the case with this particular news; which turned up on a business related news article.
Hasbro is actively in development of a fully fledged theatrical production studio for animation. The studio is set out to develop multiple movies in the foreseeable future.
Together with Boulder Media Limited, this independent production studio is described as “a truly unique studio and academic facility with stand-out identity and world-wide appeal. Hollywood production would truly be happening in the centre of Dún Laoghaire – with regularity”.
The studio will house up to 650 staff members, which is roughly half the size of Pixar Animation Studio.
Hasbro is planning to use the studio for a number of theatrical movies on a long-term repeating cycle. We believe that movies such as Transformers, My Little Pony, G.I. Joe and Power Rangers will receive forefront attention.
Though planned to locate in Ireland; the home of Boulder Media, the plan has already hit a snag with Dún Laoghaire Council declining the use of old Stena Line terminal which is unused since 2015. You can read more about it via Irish Times.

With Cyberverse and Micronauts, I hope these would serve as good launching pads

It'll probably never happen but one can dream for a transformers movie with gundam thunderbolt level animation

This is a bad take. The content business is literally exploding. New buyers are emerging all the time, all of whom need content to compete (Disney+, Warner, Apple soon to be competing with Netflix, Amazon and the other established platforms). Moreover, they all need KIDS content. Exclusive kids content is a massive differentiator because parents want a safe, reliable place they can turn to to entertain their kids. Hasbro should be doing everything it can to be in that game, and to control production and distribution as much as possible. Literally one hit show would mean millions to the bottom line, drive revenues across all product lines, and give them much more leverage with respect to the rest of their IP portfolio.

Wasn't Hasbro some years ago in talks of buying/merging with Dreamworks? It seems Disney told Hasbro they would consider them the competition and that would affect the license of Disney merch that Hasbro makes, like Star Wars and Marvel.

Should Hasbro buy more animation studios ?
Sixwing
Sweet. We might get a decent movie or two out of this.
LEGOprime
I'd love to get both. If we could only get one or the other, though, I'd say live action because we get our animated Transformers stuff in the TV shows. Having new animated Transformers movies would just be even better.

If "Hasbro never learned" they would still be trying to make nothing but toys even though we are in a market where sales of toys across all age groups other than "toddler" are dwindling. It's good that they're trying and failing to get into other kind of media because it show's they're trying to react instead of letting the wind take them.

Hasbro never learns.
anytime they dip their feet in the entertainment business, they fail.
but what else can one expect from a company determined to spend play money on?
T-Hybrid
One of the BotBots would have to be the Spider-Ham equivalent.
TargetmasterJoe
Shut up and take my money.
Tetratron
Not gonna lie, I'd probably watch it. With all the various Transformers continuities over the years it could really cool if done right.

Yeah. A potentially rated R Ryan Reynolds movie where they go globetrotting. It sounds far removed from what Clue typically is, but it’s not the first time the Clue cast has gone country-hopping. Still, it only vaguely sounds like Clue. Reynold’s involvement is the only thing that merits interest at this point.
TargetmasterJoe
Pretty sure that’s getting a movie already.
Berser Car
I would like them to make direct to digital movies adapting arcs of their comics. Like the Nightmare Rarity arc of My Little Pony. Or Last Stand of the Wreckers.
I wonder how much robot on robot violence they can get away with.
Clue?
Mako Crab
Ah well that does open up some doors then.
SuperTitanHans
It’s not just that though. They can also produce for others, so it becomes a potential revenue source. Access to Irish tax incentives too.

So aside from Transformers, MLP & G.I. Joe, what viable IPs does Hasbro have that could make for good animated projects?
No, not M.A.S.K.
Scoff
Phew. That's good to hear.
SuperTitanHans
In some ways, I’d prefer this to live action.
