Speaking to Slash Film this week, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated that they are not working on a sequel to Transformers: The Last Knight. He also mentioned that director Michael Bay will not return to the director’s chair for the franchise.
For the next Transformers are you looking for new directors or hoping you can still make Michael Bay an offer?
I think Bay has made it really clear that he loved what he did and he’s not doing anymore. So I think the answer is we’re writing a script. At that point, once we get script we have a strong belief in, then we’ll begin to debate that. Michael’s made it really clear that he didn’t want to do it. I don’t blame him. He spent a hell of a lot, a decade of his life, shooting them.
Are you developing a script that picks up where The Last Knight left off?
No.
There D Hood

Yeah, we're in the minority.
Autobot Burnout
Truly, BEAKFREAK is actually a really badass name.
Oceanus Prime
Hasbro won't know what hit 'em.

But that would cost 100 trillion dollars…

Hire us, Hasbro. We know what the fans want.
And it's a platypus that shoots its unborn young at its enemies like Yoshis. His rival can be a lion whose gun is a kitten cannon. The wave assortment will also feature a monkey with poo-launching projectiles in its palms, as well as a new version of sky-byte with dorsal fin lasers.

Yes, YEEESSS!!!
Oceanus Prime
His name shall be BEAKFREAK, and he shall be glorious.
Autobot Burnout
Indeed. I fancy a gun that shoots eggs would be its main weapon.
grindcore138
Ah, yes, that is exactly what Beast Wars was like…
Only a fool would find the idea of a platypus Transformer ridiculous, as it would in fact be extremely good.
Autobot Burnout
No…that was me paraphrasing something SilverOptimus said shortly after TLK, regarding Hasbro's position on the matter.
Galvatross
There's something that has never been officially stated.
I've literally seen ZERO evidence that Hasbro officially was less happy with the direction the films went with in AoE than with the first three films. Just because Rik Alvarez's vision for a fourth film didn't come true doesn't mean Hasbro liked or disliked the later films more or less, because I guarantee every single one of the films ended up differently than what Hasbro wanted exactly.
I'm not saying there aren't individuals within Hasbro who preferred the earlier films, or vice versa, but Hasbro's a corporation of many individuals, not a single entity with a single, unified opinion. I'm sure Hasbro is full of people with vastly different opinions from each other, just like the fandom.
SilverOptimus
LOL. I'm not an 'Inside Guy'. I just know some people who are. Insiders don't openly discuss what's happening. They are not allowed to and they honor that. That's how you know a real insider from a fake one.
Anyway. @LittleMo what @Autobot Burnout telling is true. TLK's failure created a massive domino effect inside Paramount. Though one can be hopeful, it is highly unlikely that we'll see a sequel to TLK. There is a chance, I won't deny that but plans for a Cinematic Universe is most likely in the rubbish bin now. DC abandoned it, Universal abandoned it and we can assume that Paramount did too. With it, the chances of a sequel to TLK. But you'll never know. It's still 50:50 until we learn more info.
That Guy
What sequel? This new story states there isn't a sequel happening.
Autobot Burnout
If TLK wasnt such a colossal disaster, why was Bumblebee explicitly retooled to be LESS in continuity with it to the point of reboot? Hasbro is on record as not being happy with the direction of the films since AOE and you know who picked up the financial slack when HuaHua media left? Hasbro.
Just ask our inside guy @SilverOptimus – you are mistaken if you think TLK wasnt the greatest box office catastrophe in the past decade.
Fenrys
dont take this the wrong way, but im pretty sure the owner of viacom (and as a result paramount) would know if the film made or lost money, and he claims it lost money
LittleMo
I don't believe this for the reasons I said in my last reply. Upon dissolution of the partnership with HuaHua money most likely changed hands but no one will ever convince me that TLK ended up costing over $705.4 million dollars and that's what would have to happen to consider it a loss. If it lost money they wouldn't be continuing the story and they are – the sequel is happening whether people can see it or not.

Bumblebee May Turn a Profit, But Transformers 5 Lost Over $100M
LittleMo
I'm not an "insider" but just from logic TLK didn't lose anything. Hasbro wanted to dissolve the partnership with HuaHua Media which is the Chinese company that partnered with them for the first 5 films. I heard the rumors of money changing hands but a buy-out after dissolution of a partnership is very common and that's all it would've been.
For anything to have been a loss it has to cost more to make than it sells for. TLK made $605.4 million so to be a loss it would've had to have cost over $705.4 million to make. Common sense shoots that down without any effort at all.
In the summer of 217 no movie did well except Wonder Woman and the scandals that were breaking in the news gave that film a boost.
No disrespect intended but I have to call you wrong on the "more for their money" thing, too. The comparison isn't cost/profit margin for BB compared to cost/profit for TLK. When you look solely at how many tickets were sold for each film world-wide TLK wins that. In a round-about way TLK would ultimately win the cost/profit issue, too, as more people want to see Bay's type of film. That has occurred to Paramount, also, as BB2 is reported to be having a more Bayverse tone to it.
No offense intended and I hope none taken. Just a different opinion here but still nice talking to you.
Fenrys
tlk may have "done better" if you just look at box office earnings, but bumblebee didnt lose money in the long run and it had a significantly smaller budget, so ultimately in the long run paramount got more for their money with bumblebee than tlk
