Speaking to Collider during SXSW 2019, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stated that Transformers: Bumblebee 2 will have a little more ‘Beyhem’ than the first Bumblebee movie.
“…the audience had asked us several times, in different ways, ‘I want to get to know a Transformer better.” We did that. In some respects, definitely a tip to what the audience had said to us. The interesting part is when you set out to do something like that, you don’t exactly know the ramifications of it. In this case, the ramification of it was, for the people who didn’t love the movie, was not enough action. Because you’re telling a more intimate story, therefore you can’t.” stated the producer.
Bumblebee 2 will serve as a buddy movie, featuring Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
“Several lessons have come out of this. One is that we have the freedom to tell almost any story. The other is that, how strongly the audience identified with the strength of character and emotion. I know the next Transformer, our attempt anyway, is to sort of do a fusion of Bumblebee and the Bay movies…a little more Bayhem. And a little bit more of the character falling in love within the emotional dynamic of the movie. One of the things I want to do—and I hope we pull it off—is, we did it with Bumblebee because he’s so cute and he’s so accessible, but he can’t talk. I think the more human we can make these characters, the more people are going to like them.”

I almost wrote Bumblebee off as well. But finding out that Travis Knight was directing it made me a lot more optimistic.
I get you. That's one of the reasons I like Bumblebee.
That could have been another approach. But it's close to what we eventually got, so I'm okay there.
However, I do think they could do something like that with another character. Perhaps a young Cybertronian, who's newly joined the Autobots, and finds himself way in over his head. That might end up being a pretty good origin story for Knightverse Hot Rod.
I wonder if the analyst wanted something more obvious……lets see, there's a magical MacGuffin that can end up destroying the world, and the bad guys want it. And it's up to the good guys to stop them. Something straightforward like that.
Instead we get slice-of-life, and family issues that apparently seem pointless, until you realise how they affect the characters involved, and their actions.

Inevitably, some people are just going to hit the thumbs up button on your post.
And let's be honest with ourselves…. We were all pretty much writing this movie off in beginning regardless. We're pretty much commending this movie for what it showed on screen.
"Oh, a movie about Bumblebee? Meh…"- The general moviegoer.
It wasn't until a trailer or something that people went go, "Oh, okay then… I could give this a shot."
To me, Bumblebee has character but it doesn't always push for an interesting plot/arc, it's been pushed by charisma and charm if you get what I mean. I have my own ideas for the opening scene on Cybertron, where Bumblebee is rookie among the Autobot group rather than an established soldier escaping Cybertron. Say, there's a moment where he nearly gets shot by a Decepticon before an Autobot/ Optimus intervenes and saves him. Optimus then remarks, "You have to fight on your own one of these days." And that's the set up. Then we get to Earth with all the dangerous humans and Decepticons attacking him all at once and he has to learn how to deal with being independent and stuff while also having to deal with contact with a human (Charlie) as well who's dealing with coming of age issues like in movies like Edge of Seventeen.
The scene where Bumblebee fumbles around the house is cute and all, but I kind of wish he wasn't established to be a capable warrior. Anyway that's my take on things.

I left my reply on the video but I think this analysis' lack of mentioning the circumstances of Bee's meta is a problem, while something I disagree with is that BB has a plot, it's just not as point a to point b as the other entries.
Domestic numbers are more important for looking at the movie's overall health, and BB had about the same amount of domestic viewers as TLK.

'Nobody came to see it' – because a lot of people thought it was a Bayverse movie (to be fair, Paramount did originally promote it as a prequel until Knight turned it into something else.), and expected more of the same. A lot of people still think that. There are still people calling Bumblebee Transformers 6. Paramount and Lorenzo's mixed messages haven't been helping either. Also this is a smaller budget movie than the previous ones.
And Lorenzo thinks the problem is a lack of Bayhem………..I don't normally go around calling someone a moron………
But apparently the real problem is that the movie has no plot.
Hmm…..Spoilers for the whole movie.
That's good enough for me.

The criticisms by the way aren't because it's in the Bayverse. The more I think of it, the more I go… "It's more about characters doing things than it is about a plot."
Don't get me wrong, Bumblebee does show positive signs on where they could go but I realise there has been something empty about it.

I'll say this, the last two movies were the closest out of the original five to what I really wanted. But the writing was bad.
Oh, also with the Last Knight, I'm not sure the guys in the Writer's Room were entirely responsible for the issues with it (and having Goldman in charge probably didn't help.)
The impression I get of the Writer's Room, was that they were like cooks that were making separate meals, and then the head chef insisted that they mix them together.
But there's also something else from an interview with old Lorenzo.
So, does anyone know, how much of the Last Knight's original script made it to the movie.?
I'm starting to wonder if a certain someone decided to do some further experimentation on whatever those 'cooks' finally produced. I mean, a few of the guys in the Writer's Room were pretty good, and now I'm wondering if someone thought a bit of extra 'Bayhem' would make the meal taste better.
If that is the case, I really hope that same someone stays well away from Bumblebee 2.
