Here are some repaints we still need from their existing molds.

Maybe they should've made one half of the head smaller and one half of it bigger. That way it can be as fucked up as the new hands.

Companies need to make their money back on the molds that cost them $150,000+
I don't blame them at all for making this mold in every color of the rainbow.
We have to keep in mind that most companies fund newer figures by making runs with molds they currently have.
As far as the head goes, why redesign it?
Is there something about you don't like, or are you just saying that because you felt they should have just changed something?
If the latter, I don't see a need.
The head seems fine to me as is.

Can you tell me if the hands on Ion Swarm are symmetrical? I've seen stock photos where they are but some reviews over the summer show they're not. Specifically the hole for the mushroom pegs seems to be on the top of one hand and the bottom of the other.
I have the G2 Starscream and @chnkyclnkytrike is right that the package is crazy big. It looks fine but I never got around to actually opening it.

Damn Maketoys is really milking this 1 mold. How many versions are there? In my opinion they should have resigned the head.
chnkyclnkytrike
yes I have one and it has been gone through and fixed. A lot of the parts needed replaced due to tolerance and not constructed correctly but it’s pretty nice now. I purchased it from a member and friend here on the boards who did all the work
I have thought about selling it but the package is massive shipping though!!!!

This week I was gifted the 3 newer Maketoys Seekers Nova Swarm, Ion Swarm, and Skyclone. The figures look great and I love the robot and alt modes, and want to get the G2 Starscream to go with them.
For those who have it, is the QC decent? I see Tfsource has it for 129.99, and that seems like a good deal for a cool looking G2 Mp Starscream. Any thoughts?

I never really cared for the MT Seeker mold, but I did buy this to make sure I had a G2 Starscream, but after getting it I also just couldn't bring myself to actually open it. It looks so good in the package, and I worry about actually handling the figure ruining the experience.

The clam shell is easily opened and the figure can be put right back in. Now, the size, as stated, is pretty awkward and such, but that's really the only issue I had with it. I tend to be a MIB collector for the most part, if that helps. I like the ability to replace the figure back in its original package whenever possible.

Wow, glad I saw this thread. I bought the clamshell version years ago but it was too nice to open. Thought about picking up another on BBTS but not if it's another Sonicron.

Threads a little stale, but…
I received Screamer for Christmas from my brother. Super, super floppy. Just cannot understand MakeToys shipped this. I'm probably never going to buy any of their figures again. Nothing so horrible as screws shooting out, everything is so loose, especially in alt mode.
The transformation is actually pretty straightforward and satisfying. Its quite stable in robot mode, and is actually quite tight in all of the joints.
QC issues aside, my biggest gripe is are the tail fins. Just terrible. A loose mess of folding parts that fall without provocation.

I just got my Screamer from BBTS (a little late but he was in my POL for many months) and mine has the same chest nonsense as yours. Both chest pieces just fell off during transformation and the screws just shot out of them. They either aren’t threaded or aren’t long enough to secure those pieces to the figure. I can pop them into place for either mode but transformation is impossible without them both flying off and the nose cone also detaching since those pieces hold that whole assembly in place. This is extremely disappointing since this figure was not cheap. I wish I would’ve read this thread before I ordered him. The MakeToys seekers come so highly recommended I thought it was a no-brainer. I was wrong. Anybody know how I can fix the chest pieces or if MT might be able to assist?

I'm not surprised they nixed the clamshell… that thing is fucking HUGE. It's like the size of a whole poster.

Ouch. It's a real shame that such a cool G2 paint scheme was riddled with QC issues.
MacDTyrant
Had the same issues with mine. It also apparently no longer comes in a clam shell, at least mine from TFSource didn't – just came in a bag. I got it out, handled it briefly, every part of it flopped around, and when I got it into robot mode, it was more frustrating to handle than the Takara Seekers that I have. That upper and lower body separation is REALLY annoying, and I couldn't get him to stand up straight. Any goodwill the deco had built up was quickly overridden by the frustration in trying to pose him.
bluevalkyrie
That echoes my experience with the quality issues on Screamer. There's so much right going on with the G2 colour scheme, the extra faces, the pre-installed wing fillers, but MT missed the mark with loose/missing screws straight out of the package. With any luck, MT has a better handle on QC now.

Me being the idiot that I am I had this thing in my TCP stash for over a year and had him shipped out for more Starscream fun (since MPM10 also came a few days before and I snagged an old USA Edition Scream while I was at it). Now me being a mostly official collector I had no plans to invest in a full set of this mold but the G2 deco was definitely appealing hence I was gonna have this be the one version hanging out with all the other MP Seekers/Starscreams.
QC on this thing is definitely disappointing. One of the wings is loose and flops about; I've been using that long piece that folds back to hold it up which I guess works but it's still annoying. Three pins aren't pushed in all the way so in package his alt mode already wasn't flush. This is fixable but I really shouldn't have to. The right hipskirt has stress marks. The knee joints are really loose as when I stood him up the first time he fell backwards immediately; he can stand be he can't be leaning too far back. I don't know if that's a general issue with the mold due to die cast thighs or it's just mine doing that. The most egregious issue is that his right chest piece does not stay in unless it's pegged in whatever mode it's supposed to be in. I tried screwing it in but it's definitely not that; I don't know if the inside is stripped or what the issue is because the screw seems fine but it came off during the first transformation. Related to this (possibly what caused it to come off?) is that the metal piece that his nosecone is supposed to fold around was installed backwards. I had to actually look at the instructions cuz I thought maybe I was doing something wrong but no; it turned out that piece was wrong and I was doing it right. Thankfully the left chest piece came in and out fine and holds. Not sure if the hipskirts are supposed to be flush to the crotch flaps but on mine they aren't. Lastly the joint connecting the upper body to the lower body seems to come undone rather easily. Design wise I feel like the buttflap should have been able to tab in to lessen/prevent that but as is it's like MP11 loose chest vibes but even more annoying.
The toy itself LOOKS nice; I have my gripes with it and the upcoming Takara update does look nicer IMO but I still do appreciate this design but I really hope further releases of this mold have better QC because while I might have bitten on some more special decos this one'll really make me think twice about that. After handling it I went through this whole thread out of curiosity and it seems like mine isn't the only one with issues. I guess there aren't any releasewide issues but the figure really does seem like a QC lottery which is unfortunate. Galaxy Meteor is the only other MT figure I have and that one somehow feels more solid in every way (though who knows when I'll have exploded hips on my hands).
Having gotten him 2 days ago, I'm 99% certain it is indeed red. It isn't the melony orange color of the original.
PurpleAndBlackSmokeStacks
The chest on this is red, right?
