Concluding a 2018 full of editorial and management changes, we first brought you news in December of the cash needed by IDW Media Holdings which is the parent company of Transformers, Star Trek vs. Transformers and Ghosts of Cybertron home IDW Publishing. According to a BusinessWire press release, Chairman Howard Jonas is now the new CEO, succeeding Kerry McCluggage:
“We are grateful to Kerry for leading and growing our team during a challenging period,” said Jonas. “We wish him well in his new endeavors, and thank him for the dedication and hard work that he put into the company.” McCluggage commented, “As both a board member and CEO I have enjoyed helping the company with its current slate of new programming and working with the extremely talented group assembled to execute on these new series. I wish the entire IDWM team the best of luck going forward.”

McCluggage…that is a great name for a budget luggage company. Also, I think the days of Transformers comics might be over for a while if this is any sign. I'm sad, but hopefully it means some more competent company takes over. Image would be cool (though I don't know if they do licensed stuff), but I think Hasbro would be better off working with Marvel again for the sake of bringing them into the fold of all that Disney money that goes into making those badass Marvel movies. IDW lost most of my love when they lowered their page count then pulled Milne off of MTMTE without telling him until SDCC. I keep on meaning to catch up on the comics that came out since then, but it just depresses me to think how they maimed their best comic. You insult one of your best artists like that, you deserve to fail.

This thread is a bit viscous with all the spittle flecked dog whistle but i digress.
Omegashark18
Not saying the other side isn’t bad either. Their both at fault.
It’s a viscous cycle.

No no, he's saying that the "extreme left" is the crazy one. He's agreeing with you and Rodimus Prime.
Novaburnhilde
No it's not.
Omegashark18
That’s actually the extreme left side of things. Comicsgate is the other way around.
Rodimus Prime
…Neither of those had to do with "comicsgate." The guy who was writing G.I.Joe started talking smack about people who remembering 9/11 but didn't live in NYC. G.I. Joe's fanbase tend to lean towards the military and / or patriotic types. It was a stupid move. Mags acts like a deranged lunatic all of the time on twitter, like a less likeable ChrisChan. Saying that they want to kill straight dudes during one of their infamous meltdowns is just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t think the thing that you are talking about was even a thing at the time these happened. I knew about the Joe one because of how close their fandom is to ours , and Mags is someone whose twitter I read sometimes because I find their brand of crazy fascinating, like MovieBob. Both are basically impotent fascists.
Triceradon
Oh, Comicsgate crap. Nevermind, thought it was something legitimate.
(Sitterson does seem like a tool though, won’t lie.)

The direct market system is going under. The facts are that comics still sell. Just not on the direct market.
Random House. Scholastic. Them and others publish comics that make gobs of money. Of course they are making and selling them to little kids and young adults. The same audience that reads manga. You just won't hear about it on CBR or Comicbook.com because it's not for them. Most of their readers don't know these things even exist because it's not for them. Explaining these comics to Bleeding Cool readers is like explaining TikTok to your grandparents. That's why they're still scratching their heads at why DC is 'wasting resources' opening up a kid's and YA division. The same thing that DPW will probably be doing with Marvel within the next few years.
You and I aren't the future of comics. 12 year old boys and girls olds are.
Rodimus Prime
The G.I. Joe Communist guy and the insane Mags Visaggio who talked about killing people for their gender and/or sexual orientation?
Triceradon
How are IDW and Marvel comparable in how they’ve alienated audiences?
TCJJ
Wow, they're just haemorrhaging money at this point. I doubt IDW is going to last much longer, especially if the new Transformers reboot turns out to be as lacklustre as it sounds.
Can't say I feel sorry for them though. This is what happens when you alienate your audience. Marvel's feeling it too, and for most of the same reasons. Ultimately, they've got what they deserve – they made their bed and now they have to lie in it.
SG Roadbuster
No transformers main series books. Just Scioli's Gobots. And the Filmation Trek crossover
Rodimus Prime
Sorry if I sound like a shill, but I would recommend manga. There's plenty of crappy stuff, but also a lot of great stuff. There's not a lot of Cape stuff, but you would be surprised at how many books work on basically the same principles, just without the costumes or endless crossovers.

I'm just about out. I am reading a few DC titles at the moment. I used to spend 100 dollars a week. Nowadays I barely break 10…

Make mine Marvel.

Well there goes my Comic Book buying if IDW collapses under its own bloated weight. I don't buy anything except a few IDW titles these days, if they go I'll be out of the comic hobby entirely which may or may not be a bad thing.
