We’ve got more toy reveals ahead of the US Toy Fair, with Amazon this time stealing some of Hasbro'[s thunder by revealed the Transformers Siege Battlemasters Wave 3. This assortment adds Smashdown and Caliburst into the mix of bots who turn into weapons to arm other bots.
Caliburst is somewhat disappointingly a purple and black redeco of Blowpipe from Wave 1, which means neither his deco nor his design much resemble his Generation 1 namesake and leaves Slugslinger without an accurate partner (balancing this though, the Hasbro Slugslinger’s guns already looked very close to Caliburst’s original gun mode and Takara’s Slugslinger already had the Targetmaster). Caliburst comes with a purple laserbeam effect that looks very cool and might be worth the price of admission alone.
Smashdown is an all-new character designed to look like a minotaur. That’s pretty cool as we don’t see many mythical creature Transformers – and then he adds to the fun by turning into a warhammer. His effect part is a big yellow “wallop” effect to give the impression of the hammer coming down hard – and judging by the image with Springer, this can also double as a powerful cannonblast effect when turned backwards. Yes, we’re liking this one.

Found at US retail back in JULY
Transformers War For Cybertron: Siege Wave 3 Battlemasters Spotted at US Retail – Transformers News – TFW2005
Newly released and upcoming toys: Hasbro edition is useful for questions like this

Has anyone ever found these two at retail? I've never seen anything past wave 1

It would be so nice if one day Transformers as small as these Battlemasters could have more complex transformations so that they don\'t just look like humanoid robots folded in half. (I\'m looking at you, gun-type Battlemasters.)
Capperclawed
let it be known that Siege was that one transformers line where we got a PTERODACTYL that transformed into an AXE and a MINOTAUR that transformed into a HAMMER.
Hastak is weird sometimes. I\'m into it, but theyre weird sometimes.
Nevermore
Not quite correct. Aimless uses the same torso section as Blowipe/Caliburst, complete with an identical head. I have both Aimless and Blowpipe sitting next to me right now.
Haywired
Nah, I'm only interested in original targetmasters so only Caliburst is a must.

These guys are up for pre-order at Amazon, they both have a retail price tag of $5.99, and both have a release date of July 1st.

I hope Smashdown is succesfull as a new character, and that Caliburst will be well liked by Transformers fans.
Berser Car
I'm liking the melee battlemasters over the shooting ones, and the animal ones over the humanoid ones.
I will surely get that Mini-taur!

I don't care what ya'll say, Smashdown is the true MVP of this line. Seriously, he's the perfect combo of ridiculous & awesome. I still have hope that we'll get a Wingthing battlemaster.

Smashdown is dope!
Kinda wish his horns pointed upward though…
Deadend
These two guys look amazing!
Also, they revealed(instagram stories) that jetfire has a switchable insignia like from his premiere G1 episode. Which that's awesome too.

Made my own caliburst from blowpipe seen as the colours weren’t what I wanted

Both these guys are great to me. I will definitely get both.

I do like the main toy a lot (though his retooled chest peg for the gun is a little annoying because it doesn't want to stay fully transformed in the robot mode, so any Targetmaster partner tends to aim towards the ground), and I picked up some third party guns for him and he looks great with them (minor clearance issues in car mode that I'll probably solve with some careful trimming). The colors on both toys are gorgeous, I can see why people preferred Takara paint jobs in a lot of cases.

Sucks to hear, man. I have the Legends Hot Rodimus figure too, and I absolutely love it. I was thinking more from a visual standpoint, because I thought that even in terms of the molding, the Takara TM's looked eons better IMO. But you made me think about it for a second, and I actually do like the fact that the Siege TM's actually tab together. I still think the Takara ones will always look better, but you have a point there.

I jumped back into TF collecting with TR so I like having these little ancillary characters paired up with them. I felt the Pretenders were handled perfectly in POTP, just not big on Prime Masters concept.
I love the little hammer dude but wished he had a longer handle for posing with Ultra Magnus.

Sad to say, while the Takara targetmasters look good and have some really nice paint, the Firebolt I have that came with their version of Titans Return Hot Rod isn't that great. I can't get it to stay in the cannon mode, none of the parts feel like they lock in, and I'm worried his torso is going to pop apart. Despite the lack of paint and slightly lower articulation, Siege Firedrive is a much nicer toy in my mind, everything fitting together incredibly tightly and making a solid weapon mode. It's a real shame, I basically bought that Hot Rod for the Targetmaster and I really wanted to love it. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I'm planning to customize a spare Firedrive to make it look more like the Takara toy.
A minor retool of Caliburst's big gun would be nice to give us a little more variety, at least, though given all of the other molds they're making I can see why Hasbro/Takara decided to put a little less effort into what are basically glorified accessories.

Nice Smashdown. The Battlemasters all are worth getting for me in this line as simple as they are.
carnerd3000
Ah dammit, they really couldn't make a decent enough toy for Caliburst? Ironically, I wish that Hasbro could've just taken the Takara molds and have given those to us, even if they had less paint apps. Those molds look the best IMO.
Smashdown, although bulky as hell in robot mode, actually looks pretty cool. I think I might get him.

Sorry but can’t the people writing the news try to be unbiased?
“calibuest is disappointing”
yeah but you’re doing news. You’re not tfromers after all
