Uhhhh… did you SEE the opening scene of the movie? Lot of brand research went into that. It may be the most G1-ish media we've seen on screen since… like… G2.
But… yeah, honestly? You're right. They DON'T care about us diehard fans, because there just aren't enough of us to matter for a general audience film. So they'll do what they have for years, throw us a bone now and then and chase a product they think will make them money, and sometimes that'll make the diehards happy too (because of how the things THEY like sometimes overlap with things from the past the studio thinks audiences might like again).
So why is this grand conspiracy of a BOGO offering happening? Well, probably because noone trying to be honest or objective has called this movie as successful as you're implying it's been portrayed as. It's been a critical success, in that audiences and critics seem to much more evenly like (if not love) it, compared to the more… divided opinions that many of the previous Bay films engendered. It's also been a financial success, in that it has been profitable. But it hasn't been a phenomenon with fans or a blockbuster at the bank, and now, it's probably coming to the end of its cinematic run. So a promotion like this is likely to try and wring those last dollars out of those last fence-sitters (or maybe encourage a re-watching or two). By some accounts, Paramount could really use those few last bucks. It makes sense to me they'd do this with a film that was a marginal success and that they'd hope to build off of franchise-style, compared to a film that completely tanked or a film that was such a big hit it filled seats up until the end of its run.
I wish this offer did a better job of saying which select theatres it applies at.

Loved the movie ,but could skip the puppy story the 2nd time around.
Can I buy a half ticket and they just show the main TF scenes?
misfire19d
Yup. I’ll go see it again with my son.

Companies don't usually give away tickets for free because they're in trouble and need every penny. On the contrary, it's usually mean for films that already did good money and they wanna squeeze a bit more out of it.

Man, talk about the absolute worst timing.
I was hyped to go see the movie this week, only to find out they pulled it from the showtime schedule just yesterday. I even had a gift card for the theater and everything!

This post blinded me. My eyes rolled too far back and they won't fix.

I'd love to, except my local theater won't answer the phone

It's probably a type of promo where you have to contact each theater to see if they are participating.
Burnout00012
It'd be nice to see which theaters specifically, I haven't gotten to see it yet because of money restraints and I'd love to go!
You don't speak for any of us.

I’m going to regret asking this, but oh well. What is this “us” stuff?

You mean old fans that are members on these sites but new fans that old fans refuse to understand what new fans like about transformers may work for them
Afterburner
I declare this a solidly strange promotion for such a "successful" movie.
Don't fall for the trap true believers, they are desperate for your support despite doing nothing to learn about and understand us.
