Transformers Prime Wars Trilogy Punch / Counterpunch has become a sensation among fans who waited for year for an updated version of the Autobot double-agent.
Fans noticed that the shoulders proved to be not so easy to lock, and our very own 2005 Boards member IronMagnus shared a very easy-to-do fix for the shoulders, so they can lock properly. Here your are his comments about it:
I took the arm/shoulders off of the ball joints, then I pried apart the blue body piece from the yellow body piece until I could remove the blue connector arms. I flipped them over and reinstalled them (on the same side) so that the flat side is now on the top and the rounded side on the bottom.
The arms fit SO much better in alt mode now because the shoulders lock into the upper position.
This fix requires no tools at all, just a little force to carefully pull the body sections apart.
There you are guys, pretty easy to do. For those who would like a visual help to do this, Twitter @ME_Counterpunch has tweeted a 2-minute video tutorial for this fix. You can check it after the jump, and then join to the ongoing discussion on the 2005 Boards.

Upon further reflection, we don't think there's anything more to discuss here. As with any "mod" or "fix", there's an option for your figures shoulders. Either do it, or don't.
If anyone discovers anything that's not been discussed here, please PM myself and @ServO We'll evaluate whether or not we need to add it to our tutorial resource.
As such, we're done here.

Okay hang, I'm coming into this thread for the last time with a public warning: keep it civil.
I've changed the title of the thread to reflect that it's a "modification" – as the discussion here mostly leans towards this definitely being a modification and only "possibly" fixing something. Those terms are pretty interchangeable in our forum here, but I can see that being a little more accurate given the circumstances.
Feel free to continue discussing the topics that this subject permits, but do NOT start any more uncivil arguments about anything. If you can't state your points in a respectful manner with other members, they're simply either not worth stating or simply worth stating in other ways.

Pretty much the same for me,if not for the mod,I would have my double spy guy,but no vehicle mode.

So I'm just going to chime in that my figure would not transform at all before this mod. I could not get the shoulders to lock in in vehicle mode at all. So basically I don't see any way this isn't an assembly error

I never called it either. I called it was it is: an option to do the switch. Did you even read what I wrote? On second thought, please don’t answer that.
Also, please stop trying to shove your opinion down everyone else’s throat as the absolute irrefutable truth. It’s quite unbecoming and annoying; especially when it’s spread over 4 posts in a row.

I seriously doubt anyone remains at Hasbro that can give us any answers looks like a massive staff swap out has been happening again. The last time was Mid way thru Titans Return line, Trypticon felt the fury of that staff change.

Talked to one guy that his came flat side up and he did the shoulder swap to the flat side down.

Still dose not counter the build in arms locking at a 90 say your right all you want the proof is the design it was assembled right. This is just a mod not a fix because nothing was broken to begin with. Yes i know Hasbro dose get it wrong at times hence call them out when they do that but it dose no good to call wolf on everything. I have talked to more people who did the fix to undo the fix later realizing how horrible it has been. As for this picture why is the chest vent so far over that is in the wrong position to begin compared to the first picture I posted so flat side up also can be wrong as well besides who says both sides are not flat for this picture since it's been edited.

What I am asking is do not call it a fix it's not a fix to anything it's a mod if you call it a mod i got no issues but a fix it is not.

How has it been"proven wrong" that the shoulders aren't flat-side-up in the CGI render and instructions?
Here is the render from the instructions – Punch/Counterpunch – Shoulder Fix Flat side up. If you look closely at the render of the figure on the package, you'll see its the same way.
You realize that this is a case of the >hand drawn< artwork being based on a completely different figure (the Jazz / Wheelie Generations mold – look at the chest), which is why the tires are different, right? For P/CP instructions and box art, they are renders from the CAD files used to design the actual toy.

Is this not a close up of the shoulders from the instructions which is based off of the CAD files of the figure?View attachment 28100148

The reason i said that is the person who posted this replied with a well i seen it in pictures with the flat parts up and it's int eh instructions too all of which are proven wrong then a podcast said if you do not do this the shoulders will break on their own. You can not see the shoulders in the instructions nor the artwork and as i have shown in the listed package photos they are all flat side down. This is MP 34 Cheetor all over again just arms not feet thou that case was not reading the instructions. In regards to other things Hasbro released i am well aware of them such as this, maybe a shoulder swap will work…. cuss you know the tires are on the side of the arms and not on top like the artwork. Sorry for countering all the claims i heard to make the so called fix right and proved the whole idea wrong but have fun cracking open the toy and hope your do not break it cuss EBay has it at 50 right now. Yes I have heard people have broken the toy while trying to do the fix.

LOL I love the "THE STOCK PICS SHOW IT THIS WAY SO THAT'S CLEARLY THE RIGHT WAY". I'm all over here like, "man, have you SEEN Hasbro stock photography in the last 20 years? It ain't always great." Plus if it IS a misassembly then even the stock pics will be wrong, how is that difficult to see?
Mondochuk
Pictures snipped because reasons.
First off:
And:
Secondly, no one is making you do the switch, many have commented it makes the figure more enjoyable for them, easier to align, and more solid in alt mode.
Just because you can't find a picture of it doesn't mean it couldn't have been mis-assembled. It does happen, has happened in the past (for over 15 years), and will happen in the future.
There's even a whole entry for it at the TFwiki, so please read and be amazed: Misassembly – Transformers Wiki
If you're happy with it without the swap? Fantastic!
If you like it more with it done? Great! It's an OPTION. Nothing more.
It's a toy ultimately. Do with it what makes you happy.
But please don't come in here decrying anyone who does it as "wrong" or demeaning them.
FORT MAXie
I am 100% certain this dose not fix anything at most your potentially breaking your toy in attempting it. I see no pictures supporting only found pictures that has it assembled correctly with flat parts down. The few things i see that people gain by doing it is making less of them out there as people break it attempting this modification because it is not a fix when it's not broken. The other possible reason I see behind it is you know it's not broken and this is a means to grab attention. The best outcome of doing the fix is you will scratch arms and side of the body to heck because the arms no longer lock at a 90 because that is what the flat part is ment to do is lock the arms so they do not keep touching the body that is the so called fix your undoing that designed in protection.
I took this picture from amazon, no editing you can clearly see flat sides down. In this picture you can clearly see the flat part meets with the flat part of the chest armpit area why would you want a round part on the flat part that prevents the arm from being locked. Do not do the so called fix because the arms are not broken I am sorry if you have issues working a ball joint. Do not say Hasbro mis assembled anything when it's clearly put together properly as designed. But if you want to do the fix go ahead but keep in mind there is no more stock right now so getting a replacemnt is not happeneing unless your willing to pay scalper prices.
I have 3 pictures that has Robot's right arm is factory assembled the left arm with the modification you have directed to happen
Left side of picture as assembled, Right side of picture Modification.

Got P/CP today, & did the fix, took like 10 mins to do being all careful and all.
Thanks for the fix and instructions, you clever people!
Requiem Prime
Finally cracked mine open. At first I thought the arms not staying down a little annoying, but I did the fix and oh my gosh they are rock solid. It's scary as hell, but some miracle gave him blue plastic that just happens to survive a ton of flex. And you even get more movement as shoulders; turning an awesome toy into a triumph. POTP was an odd duck of a line, but what a note to end on
DesertDog
Just did the mod despite not being particularly bothered by his transformation. Definitely makes a positive difference. I couldn't say, and very much don't care if it's misassembled, or just a design oversight like Repugnus' beast mode arms needing a joint corner shaved to get the illustrated articulation, but I'm happy it's such an easy fix. I prefer not to whittle my Transformers whenever possible.
IronMagnus
I wonder if they somehow received a second wave of production? It would be interesting to hear how they are for people who get it late from Amazon, assuming they're getting them from a second production run.
