Entertainment Weekly has posted the first trailer for the upcoming Boulder Media Studio series Transformers: Cyberverse. The trailer is a brand new version of the footage shown at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
Additionally, Cartoon Network is also airing a commercial announcing the United States airdate (September 15th) for the show. However, you can check out the first episode by logging into the Cartoon Network app on August 27th (region locked).
“The designs for Decepticons Megatron, Soundwave, Starscream, and heroic Autobots Bumblebee and Optimus Prime are direct homages to the after school cartoons that started airing in 1984.
“When we were designing the look and feel of Transformers: Cyberverse, we were inspired by the classic clean appearance of the original G1-style,” Tom Warner, Senior VP for the Transformers franchise at Hasbro, which is producing the series. “This was the design we initially fell in love with in the ‘80s and it felt like the perfect fit for this new origin story.”
The show features Jeremy Levy as the voice of Bumblebee, and Jake Tillman as Optimus Prime. Ryan Andes voices the dinobot Grimlock, while Sophia Isabella is Windblade, who is helping Bumblebee unlock his damaged memory bank.
On the side of the bad guys, Marc Thopson voices megalomaniacal Megatron, Billy Bob Thompson is the duplicitous jet Starscream, Andes pulls double-duty as cyclopian Shockwave, and Deanna McGovern is Shadowstriker.”
You can check out the trailer, after the jump.

You left out Prime and Bee killing Skyquake. And Breakdown was technically killed twice. Oh and if course Prime at the end. Like always. Sorta.
EDIT:
Can someone please remind me exactly when this thing is supposed to premiere? Thx.

Before I state my theory on the theological macguffin, @Deadend, the Bio Files from a bit ago had already implied to me that there was a round table game of “telephone” where Grimlock’s Sunbow boasting got concretized into him actually being a monarch.
Now, maybe Grimsy was the Bayou King or the Lightly Used Starship Salesman King or just a gladiatorial champion, but…
Even with only a vague knowledge of Grimsy’s reign in the Marvel comics, I’ve been wondering about a speculative, successive line of Dynastic Dynobots ruling over Cybertron… and then how they were deposed!
Granted, it could be that Grimsy is the one and only Cybertronian to establish a monarchy, but I like the idea of building backwards from that and imagining a plethora of new Dynobots, if not a whole Dynobot Park somewhere.
Conversely, Grimsy could’ve been more like the Dalai Lama and was elected by a monastery of beast bots to lead Cybertron in a succession of feral leaders, which, again, is just my biases showing. But, I really would love nothing more than IDW doing a “Call of the Primitives” comic where most/a lot of beast bots and cons climb into Trypticon and go on adventures.
Still, I also have to ponder, “how did Grimsy let go?”
As much as Grimsy can “Hulk out,” I’ve always been fond of him being basically a puppy dog at times. So, I could see him just being bored and moving on when offered to let someone or somebodies else take the reins. Thus, it could be a relief to Grimsy to retire from public service, until everything goes wrong and he has to join up with Prime to instead depose Megs!
But, about that MacGuffin…
I gotta believe Bumblebee “ate” it somehow. Now, maybe it merged with his spark or only a bit of it did and the rest of it is folded inside a “vector trap,” or some such pocket of space, like the Guyver, perhaps.
Google Images wasn’t really helpful, but I could swear there was a moment in Moebius’ and Jodo’s Incal where the space pelican Deepo eats a part of the eponymous macguffin and has a slight case of the DreamWave Sunstorm, without, ya know, being evil!
Of course, we’ll find out eventually.
So, to close, thank you for sharing your insights into the creative process!
Deadend
It actually kind of might in some ways. xD
The whole thing is Bumblebee's memories. So in a lot of ways, this kind of is "West world for kids" but without the confusing aspects of the order. This will have clear tenses.
So not so much a chronological mystery unless they do a twist later. But like I said before, I like enjoying this stuff as a fan. If I get too immersed in getting parts made, I don't get that experience. So it's best I pull a Bernard and make myself forget to maintain the fun of watching the final product.
But like a computer program, there's a lot of "if/then" loops, that activate to diverge the story path based on the choices they take from the material they have. Which keeps it a maze so I don't spoil myself by accident. They're making it. Most of my contributions are relatively minor here and there things and some other things.
Like Bumblebee's memory loss. I might actually know why that happens. But that's one story path, that I don't know if they used. There are others too. It's the one I like the most though. But there are also other simpler explanations like it's from the Ark crash that could be used too. What they do with the material is what they do with it. I get to enjoy the ride of seeing it come to life.
There are cues embedded in that trailer and the clips though that show they may indeed be using chunks of that other story path that leads to the cause I liked and wanted/intended. So I have to stay quiet on that for spoilers. But then again, that could also be a fake out to keep me from slipping up on spoilers too.
But I will say if that is indeed the story path they chose to use. A lot of fans will be happy, and no one will see it coming. I only know it because it was one of the contributions to it. If I were a regular watcher, I'd never even guess something like that would be done. If they do that at least.
So like I said before. I have a ton of faith in this show to really take fans by surprise and do some great things so long as they give it a chance. Some of the material in here may even impact some of the movies. (Animated series stuff usually does anyway.)
UltraAlanMagnus
Yeah that's pretty damn amazing.
Don't forget that Marc "The Engineer" Swint who's voicing Soundwave has worked with TeamFourStar. Yup, Frank Welker shares two of his famous Transformers roles with two TFS members after Jason Marnocha.
TLP
Dude, the way you're wording that makes me think this show is gonna get super cerebral like Memento or Westworld; in terms of timelines and a chronological mystery.
Deadend
Guess we'll have to watch the show to find out!
As for the Allspark, it is a mix of Aligned, Animated, and G1. So it could be on the ark like Animated, or launched like it was in aligned. Considering how Windblade references it when she finds Bee. I'm assuming it wasn't launched. She flat out asks him where is it, like it wasn't lost over time from the launch. That wasn't one of those details I stayed aware of because it's a catalyst point for different story directions like a choose your own adventure and would spoil other stuff.
Mister Z
Oh Jesus. It's so weird that so many characters from my childhood are being played by people younger than me these days. First Tom Holland with Spider-Man, then Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, and now this. This must be what it feels like to get old.
TLP
I thought the Allspark was launched before the Exodus?
Also, the part where he talked smart in the trailer seemed overdubbed in a different scene than it originated from. It seemed like it came from right after Optimus says "Autobots, our long term survival has become critical" in the scene with the Ark already in space. I'm hoping they still factor in Shockwave's experimentation on him and do go back and forth with his brutish/intelligent personalities.
Lazerwave
So I watched the trailer for the first time.
The bad news is, I'm not so bond about the animation.
The goof news is, I am interested in the Story.
Plus I would like to see a toy made for Soundwave.
Guess I will have to watch just a few episode to tell if I am interested.
Deadend
Don't think they're taking it that far. xD
It's initially going to be wordy for the sake of the 'wait wut?' joke, and maybe potentially the ark crash or other story device is going to knock his speech processor back some too(unknown on this part, I only know the early in joke/reference part). Or because of the war itself. But the trailer shows he was wordy still during the exodus when the ark was leaving, so I'm leaning on it may have more to do with the ark crash if it changes.
Though they could go with the feral/hulk smash approach that makes him kind of Jekyl/Hyde. But I don't remember if that concept came up during the making of this. I only remember the part about he was going to be verbose to play off the humor early on, as well as highlight his commander nature and strategical aspects of how he was as a leader before the speech pattern change if he gets the speech pattern change in this. But do have to admit that as 'tragic heroes' and representation, they do have a lot of options.
TLP
My personal theory is multiple personalities given to him by the brain damage; presumably from Shockwave's experimentation on his brain.
Venixion
I was certain I saw Sunny in there. But maybe its someone else?
Sam’s_Bee
From the tiny bit, I could hear, Optimus's voice wasn't bad. It will take some getting use to but I wish him all the best if he continues with the brand. Peter is the originator of Prime's voice but he is getting older and might be stepping down in the not so near future. So it makes sense to use other people. Like I said whoever they have done his voice whenever that does happen across all the platforms, I wish them the best.
pilot00
Not feeling it. Its not bad. I dont feel its good either. IDK too many mixed feelings there.
Rumblestorm
Just as an FYI, the guy voicing Optimus Prime is a 21 year old youtuber who does voice imprissions under the name Jake “Foushee”.
Make of that what you will.
TheSoundwave
This is the same case for me. Visual style is very important to me. I don't really want to watch something, even something good, if I have to rest my eyes on a style that I find unappealing.
IceMagnus
Is there a UK air date by chance?
Deadend
To put the focus more on the cybertronians, since that's been a constant fan complaint of too many humans or too much human focus.
And if you liked those characters, then you'll love this show as it grows. All of those characters were developed conceptually by mostly the same Aligned team that contributed to this.
Not sure what the plan is for Grimlock. It was an injoke approach this time that he talks 'smart' and wordy. For that he looks so G1 and then opens his mouth and it's 'wait, wut?' type of joke. But I honestly couldn't tell you if that changes because of the Ark crash or not. Or what happens from there other than his initial "it was to be funny" approach to throw some randomness in and remind fans this is still something new though it looks heavily g1. (Also to nod he's supposed to be a master strategist/commander, and other little things too that various lore introduced over the years. RID Grimlock is a different Grimlock though. RID Grimlock is more "Grimlock Jr." which is why his coloring favors Godzilla. And speaking of, Hasbro, where's my purple variant of that already?!?)
11 minutes was chosen because it was found it could streamline the story better, reduce costs, up episode amount, and give better punch. Upon going through older episodes it was noticed there was a lot of wasted filler used as spacers in episodes to fit the run time(except for Animated). So the runtime was adjusted to remove that and streamline things at a brisker pace and keep viewers more engaged in the shorter time. Then it also helped because it made it easier for scheduling too. All around, it made the budget more effective for a better product.(At least in theory! Yet to see if theory got proven true!)
SunSwipe5
Looks good. Would look even better with the additions of Jazz, Swipe, Sunny and CJ. Just sayin'………
GrimLocke
We don’t know how posh Grimlock actually is. There’s every chance that, as I hope, he’ll wind up being more like Sandor Clegane AKA The Hound than Neddard Stark. Most likely, Grimsy will wind up somewhere between Ned and the Hound, as examples, and they’re much better examples than Tarzan!
And, 11 minutes was plenty of time for Neo Ranga and Ninja Slayer… which ran for 48 episodes and 26 episodes, respectively…
Not with Grimlock, but it has been done.
