Granted, I'll agree to that line of thought, she is a better figure than the other two. I guess I'll have to find two other bots for limbs now.
SoundwaveSuperior
Brand unification. All of the figures are exactly the same between Takara and Hasbro.
Fenrys
i cant remember which thread it was, but someone was arguing that shared parts makes it a remold
RodimusSupreme
It was the Takara Siege Figures Official images thread where someone mentioned the Mini-Con.

I didn't see the post about the minicon that's funny though, I remember someone asking if the new punch/counterpunch had any shared parts and I pointed he had the same wheels as the combiner wars breakdown mold but I don't think anyone tried arguing that it was a remold because it's not it's just a common parts share unless I missed something.
RodimusSupreme
Saw that one too.
Fenrys
good catch, i get my stunticons mixed up admittedly
and yea, i saw that post about the minicon, just makes me shake my head sometimes. there was also the one guy claiming the new punch/counterpunch was a remold of cw breakdown because he has the same wheels as the funpub counterpunch
RodimusSupreme
Or they did it to make a better figure.
Everything's the same now.
Yep. Seen one guy try to posit that Siege Swindler was a remold of a Cybertron Mini-Con. I even pointed out how ludicrous it was, and got backlash.
*Ahem* Deadend.
Fenrys
yep, or how about chromedome being a remold of deadend
G1Prowl
Like Hun-Grrr from Silverbolt? I posted side by side images and was STILL told it was a remold.
Fenrys
agreed and its what people that actually saw it at sdcc have been saying, but ya know how people on the boards are, everything is a remold

Yeah, it's definitely not 100% shared engineering as removing the combining gimmick has put less demands on the transformation and simplified it.
Plus in line with Warden's stated ethos for WFC her articulation has been upped, she's got pinned elbows over the POTP Fems' balljoint elbows and looks to have actual bicep rotation that they lack, her ankles seem to have proper articulation rather than as an artefact of being transformation joints, and judging by the screws in her forearms possibly an upped parts count.
G1Prowl
Just did some comparisons with the gallery here and the above pics, there doesn't appear to be ANY part of Chromia that matches 100% with any part of Moonracer. Either they remolded every square inch of this thing or it is simply shared engineering.
G1Prowl
So I think we're looking at shared engineering more than an actual remold then. Wouldn't be the first time. I'm not as invested as I had no intention of combining them anyway, but this does indeed suck for all those who DID want to combine them.
Wait…
How different in color is Takara Moonracer to Hasbro Moonracer? If the heads attach the same way, we may have found an out.
Seeaich
In-hand no but the production version would have to be pretty radically different from the protos seen at SDCC to accommodate one, her backpack folds up much tighter to her back with a very telling gap, it seems she also transforms a bit differently.
She lacks the double waist twists of Moonracer/Novastar as well as the front torso transformation hinge for head stowing. Nor does it appear that her feet form the car hood/front like the POTP Fembots (in fact I'm a little puzzled as to how it is formed because it looks like a solid piece on the proto), and it seems her leg wheel pods can rotate 180 for car mode.

Plus there's no fist/foot port on the front of that car mode.
And if, as I suspect from how close to the G1 cartoon vehicle mode her longcar mode is (both Moonracer & Novastar's are quite different to their 'toon car models), she was originally going to be another limb for Elita-1 in POTP before it's curtailment then this could show less expense than you think being based on design work already done like a lot of the more economical engineering re-uses we're seeing currently in generations lines.
G1Prowl
So have we SEEN in hand pics of Chromia to see that she was reengineered to take out the combiner portion? That seems like a LOT of work and money for no gain.

I have no understanding why hasbro would gut chromia, the engineering was done and ready, it was right there, there is no reason to spend extra money in removing that functionality, if you are going to have half of a female combiner, why not make the other half?! This could of been the most unified combiner with all of the limbs the same, it was so easy, maybe that's why hasbro didn't do it, because it was too easy, too cost efficient. I just makes no sense, it boggles the mind.

RodimusSupreme
They completely reworked her torso to remove the combiner parts. So no, parts swapping is more than likely impossible.
WhirlProductions
most likely but you'd also would need to replace the legs

Okay I figured it out!
The false grill is the reason for the backpack, it folds over the top of the truck, windows open. The gray piece is part of the double hinge.
In Bot mode the false grill compacts into his backpack with the hinge.
I was wondering where that false grill goes.
