Third Party Magic Square Toys have shared images of their MS-01 Masterpiece Scaled G1 Optimus Prime Prototype.
The images surfaced via Magic Square Toys Weibo. This company had previously released some Legends scaled toys, but now they surprised us with a Masterpiece scaled G1 Optimus Prime. A very solid and cartoon accurate design in both modes, he looks in perfect scale with MP-36 Megatron. No images or mention of a trailer so far. No price o release date at the moment.
A very unexpected move considering all the hype and attention the official Masterpiece Convoy/Optimus Prime Version 3 got this weekend. Does this new mold please your optics? Check the images mirrored on this news post and then share your impressions on the 2005 Boards.

Now I just need to decide which to keep and which to put up for sale. I have way too many optimi

I decided to skip 44S since I didn't feel they did enough for him (stickers instead of tampos and no toy head) and because I already have a 44KO modified into a toy version plus the MS-02 toy deco. Then I broke down and ordered 44S last week. Can never have too many toy Optimus figures, I guess

I just got MP44S to replace my customized MS-01S. Is it just me, or does the official Prime have a tiny head?

I like the G1-esque labels.

I bought it in Magnus colors specifically because there was no toy-color OP version. They could drop one right now and I’d pick it up, because I really like the mold. I just don’t care for toon-colored (or overly toon-styled) designs. I felt like this one— sculpt-wise— was more like an evolution of MP-10 than some of the other MP-scaled Optimus figures that were released, including MP-44 (which I’ve never had any interest in owning).

Still wish they'd release this one in a toy deco. Would work better than the second version imo.
EDIT: and just for safety: no, the metallic version is NOT toy colours let alone a full toy deco.

Nice mod! I’m tempted to dig out my Magnus version and attempt that.
I still really like this mold. Not as much as I like MP-10, but I enjoy it more than MST’s newer version, and waaaaay more than MP-44.

Very minor mod, but the inability for ms-01 to use his thigh swivels without having to engage the back hip skirt bothered me. So by shaving just one of the larger struts down you can use the thigh swivel without engaging the back panel. Still wish it was designed a bit better back there but this solves like 80% of my issues.
Enfin
Or TT MP-10 colours. It's really missing for this mould.
Max Rawhide
Bit too metallic for me, and still not toy colours
TT MP-10 is very close to toy colours and although it's difficult to find a picture of TT MP-10 next to the MS versions (it usually is the Hasbro MP-10), none of the MS releases have the colour for the lower legs, hands and head right. They're all too (bright) blue on the MS figures. It's more cartoon blue, while the G1 toy had a much deeper and darker blue.
Because of this and my preferance for this toy colour, I've never bought a MS-01 MP Optimus despite liking many things about it. Basically, I would want this figure in the colours of TT MP-10.

The Metallic one looks pretty amazing!

That Magnus remains tempting, but no idea what to do with it.
Shame they didn't release this mould in G1 Optimus toy colours. That I would've bought — at least if they had been proper toy colours with dark blue legs.

I got the white one and adore him, more a what if Ultra Magnus was worthy of the Matrix and became Magnus Prime.
Mine came with what appears to be an exactly the same replacement front helmet?

I do now. I guess RTFM for me. Oops. Thanks for going easy on me.

The smokestacks extend and compress, as well as move up and down. Nothing needs replacing.
ShmoopsMcGoo
you know they extend/contract. (and can slide where mounted to the shoulders)

I'm surprised to see Magic Square still stocks the MS01 and variants. May actually go for a MS01-B.

I've finally put an order in for MS01X. Yeah it's an older version but I love how it looks like the Transformers Devastation Optimus Prime. Cannot wait to get him.
