It seems at though the Transformers: Bumblebee movie hype-train is… now in motion. Following our news report on the public debut of movie toys, we are happy to learn that Dario Marianelli has been tapped as the composer of the upcoming movie.
Film Music Reporter states:
“Dario Marianelli has been tapped to score the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. The film is directed by Travis Knight and stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Rachel Crow, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Schneider, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn and Grace Dzienny. The movie is set in 1987 and follows a teenage girl trying to find her place in the world as she discovers Bumblebee refuged in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Christina Hodson (Unforgettable, Shut In) wrote the screenplay. Michael Bay who helmed all the previous Transformers movies (scored by Steve Jablonsky) is producing the project with Knight, Lorenzo di Bonaventura (RED, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Stephen Davis (Ouija: Origin of Evil). Marianelli has previously collaborated with Knight on LAIKA’s 2016 feature Kubo and the Two Strings. Bumblebee is set to be released on December 21, 2018 by Paramount Pictures.
Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, The Darkest Hour, V for Vendetta, Anna Karenina) has also recently scored the Italian drama Nome di donna, which opened in Italian theaters this past March. No word yet on a domestic release.”
Mr. Marianelli is a BAFTA Award winning composer who is most notable for his work on aforementioned movies as well as Atonement (which won him the BAFTA).
Dario Marianelli will be replacing Steve Jablonsky who composed for all Transformers Live Action Movies since 2007.

Gonna miss Steve Jablonsky but his score for Kubo is amazing. Seeing him return with Travis Knight is awesome.

I feel he should use the theme bumblebee from 07 but with an 80s style

Yeah, I really hope Paramount let Travis Knight make the movie he wanted. From everything we've seen so far, it's looks like he had a lot of creative control. I'm a believer that some studio input isn't bad here and there, but overall I want to see Knight's vision.

probably the wrong choices to get me excited. I don\'t like either of those songs. So I will have to research a bit more to see if I like him or not. As of right now, it\'s a step down in composers for me.

I love the V for Vendetta Score, this is awesome news, although I will miss Steve

I hope he uses some cues from the previous films.

Glad to know about this!
You could say this update is music to my ears!

It's entirely possible that they could do something like that, they brought in John Williams to create a theme for the Han Solo movie, even though they have a different composer doing the rest of the score.
That much being said, I'm kind of glad they got someone besides Vince DiCola to do the score. I love DiCola's work, but I think it's good to bring in fresh people to the brand.

Interesting.
Too bad they couldn't get Vince to do some pieces, or at least a theme song.
Burnout00012
Well, it's not Vince, but hey, I'm in!

Michael Bay brought in the composer he usually work with (Steve Jablonsky) and Travis Knight brought with him the composer he worked with (Dario Marianelli). We should have seen this coming.
Welcome to the family, Mr. Marianelli.
BTW, his score on Kubo And The Two Strings is just divine. An amazing piece of work. I'm sure that we will not be disappointed.

Goddammit, I was hoping Junkie XL.
