Maketoys website is very active these days. We have another set of images to share with you. This time we have a look at Maketoys Re:Master Series MTRM-14 Grandmein (Masterpiece Scaled G1 Highbrow With Gort) Prototype.
MTRM-14 Grandmein brings us a cartoon-accurate representation of G1 Highbrow in both robot and Cybertronian twin-rotor helicopter modes. We also have a look at his Headmaster Gort, who is a very nice sculpted little figure. Ideal for your Masterpiece collection, Grandmein joins to the previous Maketoys G1 Autobot Headmasters releases: MTRM-01 Cupola (Brainstorm) and MTRM-04 Iron Will (Hardhead). Only one more release to complete the G1 Autobot Headmasters.
No release date or price information at the moment, but you can now click on the bar to check out the mirrored imaged on this news post. After that, you can join to the ongoing discussion on the 2005 Boards!

At this point I don't freaking care as I just want this and Brainstorm released so the long wait is finally over with.

They can't sell you filler pieces a year later if they don't sell you hollow panels now.
Chrisola
Come on Maketoys…you must have noticed the backlash over your hollow wings on the seekers? So why do this:

Why?! It looks stupid and you'll always see it in bot mode! AGH!!
Are you making Hasbro Deluxe style MPS now?

X2toys is committed to tiny superarticulated stickmen.
DX9 is doing movie stuff and legends at a trickle
Fansproject are committed to redecos of five year old molds
I'm sure those are gonna be way more popular than MP Headmasters or deluxe insecticons or whatnot.

I think the crowd funding model works for 500 but I just don't see how the model works on a 2000-3000 scale to justify the time and cost to MT. They are not going to ignore the sales trends of their figures. It's a shame. I think it would work for something like a replacement head and coronation set. I personally would wait to see the follow through on the Sunstorm they are doing but would commit to funding Crosshairs and Sureshot. I just think from everything we have seen that MT wants to be done with the G1 line and they have communicated that loudly and repeatedly through their actions.
You see a lot of companies diversifying to G1 legends or other MP as we get to the more obscure characters. Unfortunately, so much time was wasted with moving to MP or 4 and 5 versions of the same characters where it wasn't Megatron, Prime, or someone significant. How many Trailbreakers, Hoists, Hound, Inferno, Grapple, Cosmos, Cliffjumper, and Seasprays did we need? We still kind of failed at Astrotrain even though I like DX9 Chigurh. There were places for BadCube and others doing Topspin/Twintwist, Deluxe Insecticons, Omnibots, and so on that would have driven the excitement of diversity but it became so stale that they had to do their own Sideswipe and Red Alert and now a Huff retread that almost nobody wants. How the hell was that a better choice than an established character? Everybody is doing the same thing and wonder why they have competition and are not as successful. They think they have diversified now and doing the exact same thing at the same time. FT is at least focusing on combiners and XTB/KFC has followed through on the obscure characters. DX9 is ? FansHobby seems to be doing more G1 MP but now also doing the hated legends diversification like XTB on 1 figure. I know it is a trend but one I hope fails and is abandoned quickly.

I doubt that's going to make Maketoys produce Brainstorm and Highbrow any faster though.
Robogeek28
There's prototypes for them both in the display case at the show this weekend just two pages back…

So has MT Highbrow and Brainstorm been officially cancelled or what?.If they have then I am gonna be so bummed as Highbrow and then Brainstorm were my two fave Headmasters. And if MakeToys isn't gonna make them then who will?.
luckyman76
You can search the Reticle thread but Maketoys released that they canceled the design for Reticle. I can't remember all of the threads where we got confirmation but the main was here Maketoys MTRM-10 Recticle (not Crosshairs with Pinpointer)

It only goes so far. MakeToys is not stupid. There's only so much time you can cry "I will buy A, B, C". Come up with the money or just go away. From now on, MakeToys should just do crowd funding or work with stores to charge 10% of deposit up front.

Hey, it's good for bolstering interest.
That's how I see it.

Lots of #FakeFans in this board. #FakeFans would say: "I would buy A, B, C, etc" but they don't follow through.
Talk is cheap.

Chicken and egg problem. Another argument can be made, MT is not making the other two because people are not buying the first one.
1. Maketoys make all three. Customers don't buy. Maketoys lose.
2. Maketoys make all three. Customers wait for KO and buy those. Maketoys lose.
Thank you Maketoys for not making more of money losing products.
Robogeek28
I know I bought Contactshot because the others were coming as well.
Had I known they were gonna cancel the other two, I wouldn't have bothered even though he's a great figure.

Has this been officially confirmed by Maketoys or it's just speculation?
ckchan
Mt should realise that many are holdjng back on getting contact shot because they have not seen any progress of the other 2 targetmaster. As with ft weirdworlf, the 2nd wave of buying comes after people see the prototype of dracula and chomp
mark4flair
Completely agree that Contactshot is a great figure and what a shame that they won't be finishing the Targetmasters….
GR1ML0CK
Maketoys is still pissed off that people were buying ko’s of their shit and then crawling to them for replacement parts lmao. I only wanted hard head from them and point blank. And of course I bought the ko
luckyman76
They are not doing Crosshairs and Sureshot after canceling Crosshairs. We are going to have to hope another 3P picks it up. The problem is that MT did a nearly perfect Pointblank and anyone that did them would want to do their own team and not exclude that character. I would put my money on whoever does the Misfire, Triggerhappy, and Slugslinger taking on those two extra characters. Does the market absorb two different Pointblanks when the original didn't sell that well? I absolutely love the figure. MT is just tired of G1 and the competition. I don't believe they see any money in the targetmasters based on Pointblank sales.
luckyman76
Those are the slots for the Coneheads. Brainstorm will pretty much end G1 MP for MT. Expect them to put out the Coneheads as quickly as they put out Skywarp and Thundercracker. They already have working prototypes for all of the wings and sculpt changes.
