For our next Power of the Primes gallery, we have a look at the time traveller among the Primes, Vector Prime, and his decoy suit, Metalhawk!
It’s been a good year for Metalhawk. Originally released in 1988 as a Japanese market exclusive, the last 12 months have given him not one but two updated toys. Today we’re looking at the Power of the Primes version, which evokes the original Pretender shell of Masterforce’s Metalhawk. Even in this more diminutive scale, the heroic figure that the original shell cut is fully present here – complete with a six pack, which is a deviation from the original’s design, but it works for the overall heroic vibe of the design. Like Cloudburst, the inner figure’s face shows through when inside the decoy suit, and the effect works considerably better here. The inner figure itself is not colored like the original inner robot of Metalhawk, but certain design details are present, while others refer to the other Metalhawk that was released last year. And yes, if you have Titans Return Metalhawk, you can put his head inside the decoy suit for that full Pretender effect.
Check out a select few key pics of this one after the break – and check out the link below for 60+ pics of Vector Prime and Metalhawk.
Power of the Primes Vector Prime and the Metalhawk decoy suit
The decoy suit truly is the star of this show, in my opinion.
Power of the Primes Metalhawk (with Vector Prime inside)
Here is Vector Prime “wearing” Metalhawk. You can see how the face of the inner robot interacts here, as well as the large cannon of a gun the figure comes with.
Titans Return Siege on Cybertron Metalhawk with Power of the Primes Metalhawk in gun mode
When I was deciding on who would “model” the gun, Metalhawk holding himself as a gun just worked too well as a concept to not run with it. The two figures blues really go together, too, and the large gun works as a memory of the big gun the original Metalhawk came with.
On an aside, I’d love to share more photos of this awesome Titans Metalhawk one day…
Masterforce, Titans Return, and Power of the Primes Metalhawk group shot
Here’s the family photo of the Metalhawks! Botcon Metalhawk excluded as he’s in his box in storage, and you can see how both of the modern Metalhawks do a fantastic job of updating the original toy.
Truly, it’s been a good 12 months for Metalhawk.

Is it just me, or does Vector Prime's 'face' look like the Stargate?

Looking at this makes me kinda wish that they'd decoed the Titanmaster to have the suit and tie; then putting him in the shell would be the most dead on homage to the show you could get.

Why is his face so… handsome?! It's a tiny face, it shouldn't be so frickin' well defined!

a new mold for Hawk would be nice but tbh I think the TR one looks good in bot mode nonetheless and the deco's spot on. I'm quite frankly just happy we have him and to boot it also means you can put a Metalhawk head into the Metalhawk shell; how many characters can we say have that opportunity

Metalhawk needs it\'s own mold

The Decoy shells look neat. can't say I see myself getting to many, if any considering how much Titan Masters were to import to my country.
If I had to pick one it'd definitely be Blood/Bomburst though.

I think if I were more familiar with the original G1 figure and Masterforce cartoon, I'd probably be right there with you.
Back to the PotP decoy suit, I'm a big fan of it overall: the design is fantastic (actually, all of the figures are) and colors pop insanely well.
DocSeth81
he's a really good figure.

where\'s botcon 2012 Metalhawk?
Deadend
Kind of makes me hope Takara does a metallic version of MetalHawk from their version of the mold so it can use the metalhawk decoy suit as a Targetmaster.
Sol Fury
He's boxed away at a spot that isn't always easy to get to. I'll have a look at pulling him out for a quick pic up the line.
A few of the Spark modes are definitely Cyber Key-ish. Alpha Trion is very similar.

I still think TR Metalhawk is fugly. that and he doesn\'t really look much like metalhawk in either mode.

Since I got TR Metalhawk for my kid, it was a no-brainer to pick this figure up as well.
Ironically, it’s been months since I did yet it still remains unopened.

I own a Cybertron Vector Prime from back in the day and he's awesome, so I was all for a new toy of him, even if it was this small.
I love how his matrix mode looks kind of like a Cyber-Planet Key. Hasbro didn't need to do that, but they did anyway.

I may be able to do a pic or two with botcon Metalhawk.. will need to dig him up
Raiyuki
Too bad you don't have Botcon Metalhawk on hand; would love to see him with with the others as well (particularly the PROP one since they're both based on the shell) Still good pics and it's nice to see him get so much love.

Thought I would share pictures of my custom Metal Hawk Hope you all enjoy. He does have swords btw , just not in the robot pic.. Added picture with swords and Vector Prime as weapon
