The ongoing troubles facing Toys R Us have been an ongoing issue many fans have been following, with news of increasing store closures and job losses breaking over the last few weeks.
Today, it is the turn of the UK branch of Toys R Us to bear the bad news. The BBC reports that Toys R Us UK have entered administration – placing all remaining stores at risk of closure, and with some 3,000 job losses expected.
It is reported that the remaining stores will remain open for now, but the chain will be undergoing what is being called an orderly wind-down of the business. This potentially means some or in the worst case all of the remaining stores may go. The online side of the business, including the click-and-collect service, is expected to cease operation immediately.
It’s a sad day for a chain that has enjoyed a long association with Hasbro and offered many exclusives. Sadly, this has all the appearances of portending to the fall of Toys R Us in the USA and elsewhere in the world.
