If some generic was killed instead of Kup, we wouldn't be talking about it right now. So IDW got what they wanted.
Single Elegant Machine
So Merklynn is sort of an inversion of BM Megatron?
Raiju
The writing and the artwork certainly elicited extreme reactions, which I suspect is the entire point (and I think they succeeded, in all honesty). Wouldn't do much to drum up interest in this new crossover if no emotional impact was made at all.

does \"Editorial Mandate\" mean it was the IDW higher ups who decided Kup had to die, or Hasbro\'s?
Either way, this is not okay.

You know, far from suggesting a genocide…
But, dear Cybertronians… Did you ever consider atomic ordnance, especially so-called low-yield "dirty" atom bombs? The radiation shouldn't have a lot of impact on YOUR population but should wipe the organic pest in so-called "New Prysmos" fairly quickly.
P.S.: Where are true Decepticon patriots when they're needed?
primalxconvoy
Why would IDW include a retro cover? It\'s obvious that they don\'t give a flying feck about the original look, so some crudely drawn copy of the original source material is aimed at who exactly?
It\'s obvious the writers and artists here lack Visionaries…

Uuugh…these are Visionaries now?? They look awful, especially with the notion of shrinking their heraldic holograms to mere badges.
MGX
The vehicles were the "power staffs" of Ectar, Feryl, Mortdredd and Reekon. Instead of magic staffs or shields (in the case of Galadria and Virulina in the STAR Comics series), these four had VEHICLES powered by magic, with their own special powers.
In the original Visionaries, the people of Prysmos didn't hate tech. In fact, they were regular people in the Age of Technology until it stopped because of the Age of Magic. Society became feudal and they forged medieval armor out of junk and whatever leftover tech was lying around. The vehicles were dormant until that certain Spectral Knight or Darkling Lord touched it and they activated.
General Magnus
Is the luddite aspect something new? Because in that intro I see a lot of vehicles and high-tech stuff being used.

Was not enought they killed Kup, they had to parade his head around like a trophy?
And MAN this artwork. LOok at Virulina\'s face on the first panel, what emotion is that? She is a living trollface.
The classic cover just reminds me how much better the old designs were. Why are they not using those? These new characters are nothing like the classic ones in either personality or look… they don\'t even have holograms on their chests. Might as well call this something else and don\'t pretend it has anything to do with Visionaries.
I went back and watched the first episode of the show instead, and it just reminded me… we would need Mortdred in this book. His ridiculously overplayed sycophantism is sorely needed for humour.
It also reminded me how much more memorable the cartoon made the characters with just a few lines in a 20 minute cartoon.
And also, that beards apparently mean you are evil.

A great way to endear a new audience (most of whom likely never heard of the original) to a new team by having them murder a beloved character. That worked so well for DC with Superboy Prime, they did it again and again! [/sarcasm]
ScientistMan
The author is comparing Virulina to Magneto and we're supposed to view them as persecuted refugees…except everything bad that's ever happened to the Visionaries in this continuity is all Merklynn's fault and they're basically genocidal squatters. They don't feel like Mutants. They feel like Inhumans. Which is not a point in their favor.
SlagNotSlug
Oh my God! They killed Kup! You bastards!
Megastar
I love it when villains were it on their sleeves.
Omegashark18
More precisely, these Darkling Lords. How the heck these guys are considered to be on the same team, I’ll never understand.
So is the way of a medieval-like culture such as this. Definitely an up-hill battle from here.
Looks like a generic.
Spartan Prime
Anybody know if the dead bot behind Merklynn is anybody we know or just some generic?
optimusmegas
Well well well looks like the entirety of their race is in approval of kup's assassination and this blatant act of war…
Shaping up to be the few knights and the cybertronians vs the rest of their race
Heliblade
I do not approve of genocide, but these Visionaries tempt me with their insolance…
combinerlover
I liked the Visionaries when I was 3 or 4 , but these guys can suck rust for what they just did to KUP …. That`s a Hell no to me .
Fallout
why is kup's head so giant? that's like, the size of a head that would belong to a 30-35 foot robot…
