Another comic preview for today comes straight from Newsarama, as they bring us the first six pages of next week’s Optimus Prime #15; this issue features not just the return of Onyx Prime, but also artist Kei Zama! The Mistress of Flame recalls her first encounter with the legendary Onyx Prime, while she meets with another one of the Thirteen Primes on present-day Cybertron. It’s the first part of “The Falling,” a story arc that looks to be a culmination of many of John Barber’s Transformers comic plotlines, and you can pick it up on January 17! But before then, check the pages out after the break.

Onyx is a dick with tyrannical tendencies and a strong dislike for non-beastformers. If he is preparing for Unicron, I'm not sure that he's interested in saving anyone other than his own kind, or that he'd trust outsiders with anything.
DRY1994
I'm pretty sure that there are better ways to prepare to defend against the coming of Unicron than spending your resources trying to conquer a planet and enslaving/killing the people that might be able to help you. Wouldn't it be better to warn people about the impending doom and ask them to assist you and prepare instead of being all cryptic about it leaving no one with any understanding of what's coming just after you tried to enslave/murder a bunch of them?

Finally Scoop returns.

Onyx has consistently been depicted and built up as not a nice guy in IDW, particularly in OP #10 and the final issue of Revolutionaries, the latter of which he attempted to murder Blackrock for no longer being of use to him; it's not exactly surprising that he'd try to kill all three of these characters for stumbling onto whatever he's up to. We also don't really know if he'd actually hunted down Praesidia, but his forces killed her and a bunch of others in an attack on a Camien village because a villager had killed one of their own.

This makes no sense at all. They found Onyx Prime, who to my knowledge wasn\'t particularly evil, and he just kills one of them on a whim? And then hunts Praseidia down years later? Umm… why?

Is that giant structure holding a singularity? The casing around it reminds me of a spacebridge, and maybe Onyx has a way of controlling it so he could travel around the galaxy.
Jalaguy
Yup, Sentinel/Infinitus declared himself a harbinger of Onyx Prime, and wanted Optimus to "do his duty as a Prime" by subjugating Earth in order to defend it from outside threats…
TyrantLizardKing
Didn't Sentinel Prime mention that he was affiliated with Onyx Prime as well?
ultramagnus1
Furman has said that the Unicron saga was what he was most proud off
Omegashark18
That does make perfect sense. And I’m willing to bet that the Transformers get the wrong idea, stop Onyx Prime, and find out too little, too late what he was truly trying to do.
And so he says “You have no idea what’s coming.”
Oh yes, I remember them. I remember that whole long arc, one of my favorite parts of the Marvel comics.
ultramagnus1
Maybe. I'd love to see hook line and sinker appear. Remember them from marvel us?
Megatronus hopefully will be better in IDW then that machinima show lol

After his plan in OP #13-14 collapsed, Bludgeon said that he "could have prepared the world for what is to come" and that his master will be "disappointed but not defeated." So his master wants to prepare Cybertron for something.
That matches up with my long-term theory that Onyx Prime has been preparing for the coming of Unicron for eons, and that he's going to invade Cybertron in order to fortify it against him. Similarly, in Revolutionaries #8, Onyx described the Talisman (of which he's the earliest known owner) as an "inoculation against that which comes", which would also fit that theory considering how good the Talisman is at killing Transformers.
I suspect that the giant eye on Antilla is Unicron's, somehow gouged out during Onyx's first encounter with him, and that ever since that happened he's been building an army and preparing to save Cybertron from him.
Omegashark18
Perhaps. You can’t have Unicorn without heralds. Onyx could very well fit the bill.
But I can’t help but wonder if Megatronus will factor into this. He’s been mentioned before.
Maybe they’re saving him for another time?
ultramagnus1
Could it be unicron-onyx prime-bludgeon?
And the hero of Cybertron will be optimus primal?
Omegashark18
Bludgeon mentioned that he had a master but we don’t know if he meant Onyx or Unicron.
And who knows how this arc is going to factor into The Darkest Hour.
ultramagnus1
I'd imagine onyx prime is a herald of Unicron's. And he's going to announce Unicron's arrival when onyx arrives on Cybertron.
Could be wrong. We've had various heralds of Unicron in past continuities I think we can add onyx prime to the list.
ultramagnus1
Can't wait for this. Still not a massive fan of the art on this but its not bad.
Surely that's Unicron on the cover? No,?
RazorclawX
Pure black characters don't look that good in print which is why such characters come with another dark shade of color.

Also same pannel, BW Megatron season 1 body.
