WWE Superstar John Cena has joined the cast of Transformers Universe: Bumblebee, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The site also reveals the plot synopsis and a revised release date for the movie.
“The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”
The synopsis also confirms that Bumblebee will return to his Volkswagen Beetle (a.k.a VW Bug) vehicle mode from Generation 1.
The film kicks off production today in California. Paramount has set a new release date of December 21st, 2018, which puts the film opposite Warner Bros.’ Aquaman.
Travis Knight, who directed the stop-motion movie Kubo and the Two Strings, is helming the new film from a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Hailee Steinfeld is leading the cast of Paramount’s new film, which will center on the yellow and black bot Bumblebee. The film will feature a young cast including Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny.

How about making quality movies, with intelligent, emotional stories and characters first and foremost? That's how you can build and expand into a bigger cinematic universe too. You need steady foundations. The Bayverse, like it or not, was made up as it went along. The aesthetics and lore are all over the place, constantly clashing with itself on a million different fronts. It was not created with the goal of expansion. And whatever the writers' room came up with, didn't help TLK. So, the lesson here is… Hard reboot. Really, take the time, find the right people, who have a true understanding and passion for the material and do it naturally. Don't just force it just because everything has to be a cinematic universe nowadays. Transformers can be even more than what Marvel's doing, potential-wise, if they just handle it with a bit more care than they have in the last 10-15 years (with few exceptions here and there like IDW comics, Cybertron games and maybe TF: Prime).

Well it is one of the lessons. AOE and DOTM had grossed big because of the little competition. Obviously the story and other aspects are important but the competition is really important.

John Cena will end like Johnson, making movies every year
Boneless Pizza
You gotta be joking, Hopkins is one of the best actors of all time. Not his fault he gave a bad performance in TLK, blame Bay and the script.
KayODave
Not all that surprising, Cena doesn't actually have any bones to break, he's all solid muscle.
At least, no more than it already is.

Seeing as John Cena isn't playing John Cena the wrestler, it doesn't matter. Its not like using his theme song or quotes will break the timeline.

A Californian beach town, set in the 80's sounds pretty cool.
AutobotAvalanche
I don't believe Cena was wrestling in the 80's.

I bet Bumblebee will be using parts of John Cena's theme song and quotes in the movie.
Yup, can totally see BB and Cena arriving somewhere with BB playing his theme song.
"You can't see me!"
"Your time is up, my time is now."
"The Champ is here!"
I'm sure BB will at least use one of those quotes in the movie.
96megatron
He's playing a Transformer with a cloaking ability.
Cliffjumper: You can't see me!
FOC and G1 all over again. He's gonna get killed trying to hit Megatron, then Shockwave and Starscream show up for some reason, bye bye Cliffjumper. By the way I'm from the future. Tomorrow is Thursday.
Dirge121
Its not a leak. He got dropped right on his neck by Nakamura and it was a nasty landing. Owens was just making a joke about how tough Cena is to not have been injured.
BarricadeLives
this is a tweet from this morning from one of cena's co-workers, kevin owens(@FightOwensFight);
"those flipping out over @Johncena's rough landing must have missed the fact that he was revealed to be an actual transformer the day before."
hm…freudian slip? did he mean cena would be voicing a transformer?
maxxzander
Don\'t think we will see cena in this movie coz he says \"YOU CANT SEE ME\" so yeah.. we cant see him.. lol

All I can think of when there's mention of John Cena are the memes surrounding him and the fact that he played a role in the freaking Fred movie(remember that one?)
I can't possibly fathom why he's casted. He'd be good as a voice for a transformer, possibly barricade or whatever. However knowing how things go where we never really hear who's voicing who when it comes to the robot cast..
drbeakman
Also fitting, because hasbro CEO Bryan Goldner and Vince McMahon are in fact the same person
AutobotAvalanche
When drbeakman and Avalanche agree, you must be wrong.
drbeakman
i was gonna say the same …
AutobotAvalanche
You must be joking.
