Few days ago, we only had a chance to front page little snippets from an otherwise complete article by Entertainment Weekly on their monthly magazine regarding the character of Hot Rod on Transformers: The Last Knight. One image and a portion of an article was only available at that time.
Since then, the entertainment site was kind to post the entire article of this fan-favorite character who will appear on the upcoming movie. With a figure seemingly discovered, let us take a look at the article on EW. This new info will shed a light on how important Hot Rod is on TLK.
Possible Spoilers!
“In the image here, Wembly comes face to face with the longtime friend she didn’t even know she had — the Autobot covert agent Hot Rod. She’s freaked out — and not planning to go quietly.
Hot Rod has secretly been serving as her protector in the guise of her father’s 1963 Citroën DS.
“It’s a rickety old thing, but she can’t part with it because she adores it,” Haddock says of the vintage vehicle. “This car has actually been put there to watch her and feedback information to Anthony Hopkins’s character about what she’s up to and her life. So yeah, she gets kind of taken [by surprise] in a really funny, dramatic way by this Hot Rod.”
The revelation also reshapes how she viewed her dad. “She’s not had a very good relationship with her father, but this is one thing that her father has done that makes her realize that maybe he cared than she thought.””
The article states that Hot Rod currently has no voice actor attached and that the production team is looking for a foreign voice. However, those who attended the recent fan screening stated that Hot Rod already has a voice. The article may very well be slightly outdated or the team has decided to change the accent and the voice actor (whoever it is).

Sheesh… everytime I see this thread go up I always think that there is a new photo or anything new about Hot Rod… only to be disappointed to see users who cannot seem to get enough attention in their lives making their presence felt by posting negativity

They are better than the previous. I didn't dislike the dinos in their beast modes. robot modes, err, I see what they were going for and they are much better but still not to my liking (except the toy version of the red one, [Slash?] and Strafe). Drift was fine, as was Hound I guess. Still thought they were ugly. My main problem with AOE was Cybertronium or whatever they called it. I'm 50/50 on Hot Rod since he's my favorite character, but other than that…Lets just say I don't dislike the newer forms has much has the old ones (hell Barricade is pretty sweet imo).

I love how my post was removed, but the one that started this mess remains.
John TheDestroyer
It seems like AoE decided to move away a bit from the walking junkyard designs. Do you dislike the new designs, too?
Prime135
See, it's posts like this that I don't really mind. You came, you stated your opinion, you admitted that it was just that, your opinion, and you moved on. It's when people try to tell me I'm "wrong" on something less that an absolute fact that REALLY gets me going.
Rodimal Magnus
Yeah, I guess you're right. While I don't like them personally, I agree that it's good to try something new once in a while (even if it fails) instead of just sticking with what's come before (Hollywood in general could learn something from that). Even if I don't like the direction, I concede it's a good thing they are willing to try it.

But isn't it a good thing that the movie TF designs aren't a lot like other robots if it means they'll stand out more depending on one's view on them?
Rodimal Magnus
I'm not bashing them because they don't look like the originals, I'm bashing them because I think they are ugly and (IMO) don't even resemble any robot from any fiction ever (except maybe a couple bad animes). Maybe to some that is a good thing, (its definitely original) but not to me. The movies could have absolutely nothing to do with Transformers in any way and my opinion would be the same. To me they look like somebody put a bunch of parts from a junk yard together in a bipedal form and called it a 'robotmode'.
Still, I posted to give my opinion, not start an argument, so I'm gonna leave it there. Each to their own and all that.

Nice.

Because the fact that you're bashing the movie Transformer's design is like bashing the MCU and Utimate Fury because he's nothing like the 616 Nick fury because what they have in common is that they're not trying to be like the originals 100%
Rodimal Magnus
That really makes no sense….Of course the current Nick doesn't look like the original. He looks like Sam Jackson with an eye patch. What that has to do with my opinion about bayformers, I'm not quite sure. Oh well. I stand by my opinion that bayformers are ugly.
Hotrod94573
Oh God…saying shit like this is exactly saying that Nick Fury doesn't look like the "original" Nick Fury.
electronic456
It will be hundred of years soon enough for the franchise…. Like in 2084?
Rodimal Magnus
My problem with bayformers isn't that they don't look like their namesakes, its that they look like crap. I hate the ascetic massively, especially the Decepticons with the exception of Barricade. They area just ugly and look nothing like 99% of the robots we've seen for the last hundred years.
snokoan
Can yall just hush it's movie doesn't matter which is better there literally the same thing
Prime135
I see you've failed to address my entire argument…which means I'm probably right…
CKPRIME
Optims Prime? Isn't his name supposed to be Battle Convoy? What a name slap!
Burnout00012
I can't believe I'm wasting my time amusing a troll, but for the sake of argument, let me try to clarify what you're saying.
Geewun is superior to any other transformers generations simply because the character names aren't nameslaps, because G1 came first and created these characters. Am I getting that about right?
So, yeah, I'm defending Hasbro's decision to name these characters in the movies, because literally every other generation of transformers has also given new characters old names. I'm not arguing it's not to keep the copyright because it almost certainly is, but so fucking what?
This is not a new concept, nor one that was invented by Michael Bay. If you wanna blame anyone for nameslapping, blame Hasbro.
MnemonicSyntax
You win at… removing one "name slap" and replacing it with another?
Because that's all you did.
So… congratulations?
