Iron Factory has updated their weibo with pictures of their upcoming IF-EX18D Lord Scorpion (Dark Matter Version). This figure is an homage to Black Zarak. The Dark Matter Lord Scorpion is a remold of their Lord Scorpion (Comic Version) that was released last year. This release has a new headsculpt along with a new weapon. The figure is due out in May and can be found at most of our sponsors.

I probably make it worse than it sounds. The paint on areas of friction with these guys is absolutely nothing new (I did say in my initial post) and has cropped up in fair criticism of Iron Factory, but this is the first time it's properly had me straight into the first transformation.
I have Lord Scorpion – hell the only IF I'm missing are the red Sonictech and clear Windblade – so I know what I'm doing with the figure in case people think I'm being heavy handed. The paint on the feet creates friction in a couple of areas you don't get on the first tooling. That paint is also used on the joints. On this toy it's a very similar paint to the stuff Takara used on their United and Animated lines so if you're familiar with those toys and their foibles you'll know where I'm coming from. I see a few similar dinks on my Starwing (Tyrant Red) and that's the same kind of candy red they used in places here.
None of this is stopping me enjoying him, I have just had to be more considered with things.

thats a bummer….i have the original one and was thinking of picking this one up too.

Can do, in work at the moment though.
I'm seeing it on the feet where they fold and meet (zero room for error or it'll shear), as well as the peg holes on the feet that tab into the crotch, a touch on his horns and helmet and where the gold guns on his legs rotate and meet the surrounding area.

The feet hinges and the weapon pegs for the claws rub on mine

are you saying yours rubs off paint? can you show some images of that?

So…
.. I'm having my very own MP-36 style resolution and acceptance party today.
Iron Factory Lord Scorpion: Dark Matter IF EX-18D. The dark matter at hand here being the copious amount of paint and rub spots. Basically, if it ain't black or translucent, it's painted, and if it's gold or red it's a rub spot. I'm not entirely convinced the gunmetally blackish parts don't have some sort of finish either.
It looks spectacular of course, and the toy remains a stunning piece, but I have resigned myself to the fact that if they're going to go as far as to actually paint the fucking thigh joints, shoulder joints and anything that tabs, rotates or pegs, you're going to either end up with a statue or have to make a compromise.
This isn't something new to Iron Factory, not in the slightest, but given this molds tight tolerances anyway, is certainly the first where I have had to decide whether I want a display piece or an action figure.
I think the pics have made their point as to where I stand

I'd really like to get this guy. Back in the early 2000s I picked up a mib black zarak on eBay. Box looked great, stickers unapplied, he looked perfect. I didn't know what gps was at the time. I took him out of the box and tried to peg the shield on his arm just for kicks, and the shield just started to crumble. I put him back in the box and ended up selling him a couple of months later.

After seeing the shots of both the regular and now this version, this version is my preferred choice (not bashing the regular version). Why?? The darker colours make more vibrant and provokes more of a meaner and aggressive look.
When the first version was released and I saw it in person, I thought "They should made one in Black Zarak colours". Lo and behold a year later, my questions where answered.
This smaller version is a homage to the original TT version that we can all enjoy and to fiddle around with, also with the bonus of not worrying about the GPS at all!

Really liking the colors on this. I wasn't planning to buy it but I bet those colors really pop in person.

And Bababobo from eBay, another legitimate seller has this for 56. Mine's on the way.
Zappit
Bestgrey on Amazon has this for $70, ten bucks cheaper than most vendors.
