A sad day here at TFW2005 as we report the passing of Dick Gautier. He has passed at the age of 85. This was originally reported by Neil Kaplin via Facebook and then later confirmed by his wife, Tess Hightower. Dick was known for his incredible voice acting in the third season of the The Transformers animated cartoon, most famously known for taking on the voice of Rodimus Prime after Judd Nelson left the role. Some of his other work includes Serpentor in the G.I. Joe series and Spike the Dog from Tom and Jerry.

who here was lucky to meet him at conventions when he was still around? I wish I had gotten to meet him, I remember I was devastated when I heard the news earlier this year

I had to step away because when I heard this news through his cast mates, it hit me hard. He was the man that breathed life into what became my favorite character of any fictional universe. He thoroughly entertained and inspired me. I loved his voice and his performance. He was one of the best and I had always hoped that one day he would be able to attend a convention, which I could go to and meet him. Sadly that day will never come. I just hope he and his family are at peace with his passing. We will always cherish the memories he provided in his life. He left a positive impact on the lives of many including mine. We can't stop the hands of time but we can always remember. So I'll remember him, his work, and keep his family in my thoughts. He left a legacy and it's as beautiful in death as it was in life.
I imagine his response to this would be similar to the words of Rodimus Prime: "No need to get all mushy. Cybertron's a better place anyway."

I always think of him first as Rodimus Prime first since I only saw TFTM long after Season 3.

To be honest the voice actors for Kup sounded pretty similar, at least they did a nice job.

Yeah, they got real, kind of famous actors for many of the roles in the movie… Ultra Magnus, Kup, Unicron, Wreck-Gar, etc…. which they either could not afford (or were not available) for the tv cartoon. I mean, even if he hadn't died, I seriously doubt Orson Welles would have voiced Unicron in Season 3.
