Thanks to the hard work of TFW2005 members Deruji and Liampope, we are proudly able to share with you a translation of the Masterpiece Megatron article contained within the recent Generations 2016-17 book. The article gives a good idea of the design philosophy behind MP-36 Megatron, and lends some good insight into some of the cool things we’re going to see once we add Megatron to our collections later this year. You can check out and enjoy the full article in English attached to this post – and be sure to stop by the discussion thread to give your thanks to Deruji and Liampope for making it possible for non-Japanese speaking fans to enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at the production of a toy who just might make it on to some best of the year lists at the end of the year.
Thundershot
Last night I transformed him back from gun mode to robot without a video. I just had to look at one panel of the instructions on an arm part.
He is truly a work of art… but I dare not put that silencer on him.

Thanks for the photo, I hadn't compared mine in hand. But yeah, as expected different tooling / sculpts.
Arie
Thank you for posting those comparison photos. Besides the one on the right having the proper color, I prefer the looks of it too. The one on the left looks a bit long, because it is not as wide. But if they would have just painted the one on the left gold, that would have been fine too. Nice to see that they went through the trouble of redesigning it, to make it look more like in the cartoon.

Left is MP10 Asia, right MP36, both die cast, but yeah, different.
PoweredConvoy
I'm betting their completely different honestly. Since one was a Hasbro Asia funded incentive, and this is an accessory packed with a figure.
Just like the Megatron gun that came with Shockwave isn't the same as the ones packed with Soundwave or MP-1.

"This is the Decepticon's Strongest Gun Mode!" sounds like something from an anime. I love Japan.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it will be the same key included with MP10 as the bonus item…that was metal.
JC1
Hi does anyone know whether the key to vector sigma included with MP36 is diecast or plastic? Can't really tell from the picture.

Thanks Deruji and Liam. Awesome trivia in these articles! This is the fandom at its best <3

Yup. Nothing is usually ever changed. The extra instructions for MP Skywarp is one of the few exceptions. Like Type-R said, those for the China market are more likely to be different than the other Hasbro Asia releases. Even then it's insignificant.
Type-R
There is no difference in packaging or instructions between TakaraTomy and the general Hasbro Asia releases. The only thing I have noticed is different is the inclusion of a slip of online survey/lucky draw(?) paper that is included in the baggie with the instructions and spec card for TakaraTomy's release.
The Hasbro Asia release for the China market on the other hand, has stickers pasted on the packaging with Chinese wording and additional instructions in Chinese.
GizmoTron
Even if they did (which with MPs the only change from the Japanese release is a Hasbro-Asia sticker on the bottom of the box), that's not the same thing at all. Instructions don't require recording dialogue with a well paid voice actor and manufacturing a different sound chip to place in a special second or third run of MP figures. It would be very costly to do that for even one run, let alone if they were really going to make both an English and a Chinese chip.

FYI, they do translate the instructions in different languages though..

I'm sure about that, if they did with MOVIE DA BESTO (movie the best) and mp-22, why not with an important character like Megatron?.

I need this NOW! Seriously this wait is killing me. Takara has been shelling out so much info for this guy. Wonder if we will get a cool promo vid like we got for MP-22.

I think that, megatron really comes with different type of language (it depends of the store), but i don't think the english version comes with Frank Welker's voice, but if it does, then i'll be the happiest person of the world.

Enjoyed reading that!
Really looking forward to this guy. Clearly a lot of effort went in to his design.
CyberDragon10K
Love these little readouts. Thanks!
Liampope
Glad so many enjoyed it. Thanks again to Deruji!
You certainly get the impression Megatron has had special focus, above normal care and almost no expense spared to get it perfect.

Thank-you both so, so much for doing this.
So the designer worked previously on KT, Kiss, and Revoltech! Interesting.
I really feel like this gives a whole new worthiness to the word "masterpiece" in this line, but that's just my opinion.
