Thanks to the Transformers movie Facebook page, we have our next look at one of the robots from the film, Drift! Sporting a new, all-red paintjob, Drift seems to have had an overhaul featuring a new Mercedes alt. mode and an even more samurai-esque design in robot mode. With these new upgrades and no longer having to hide, the returning “honorable warrior” is sure to be a fast-striking threat to the Decepticons next summer.
How will this affect Drift’s helicopter mode? Check out the pic after the jump and share your thoughts in the discussion below!
cappeca
Drift, the all around japanese stereotype that turns into a Mercedes.
HARD RAINBOW
Hopefully, the final design and toy keeps the AMG logo on the swords.
Classy as fuck
Furnace
Amen to that! I just wish they gave him a different head design.
Galvatross
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm more excited to see Drift in TLK than I am to see the debut of Hot Rod. I want to see more action scenes with him, and I also want to learn more about his Decepticon past if possible.
Hound89
1. Why do they need to address why he has 2 alt modes, theyve never done that in any media in the past
2. Why dose he need to explain his color change.
ArmadaSentinel
While I think it is possible that Drift will be more black in the film, taking a closer look there does seem to be some black panels on his arms and legs, so maybe this is based on the black car prop.
While not as extreme, AoE 'High Octane' Bumblebee had far too much yellow on the robot mode compared to the '67 Camaro, so the designers may have done a similar thing here and just given him more colour in robot mode.
Does anyone else find it odd that both Hot Rod and now Sqweeks have had proper renders revealed whilst Drift, who has a pre-existing base render, only gets a concept art reveal?
ParaChomp
Drift still isn't a Japanese car.
smh
The red blends better but it lacks the flow blue had.
Autovolt 127
I don't like the red, they should have kept the blue he had in AOE.
It pops more IMO.
Master Disaster
In all fairness, the imagination plasters effortlessly over stuff like that. We know they scan stuff, we don't need to see it every time. By the same token, we also know they transform, and I'd like to see some of that this time.
zachprime86
Cool ! I hope Hasbro makes a toy out of him (Drift)
StarGazer
wait i was thinking we didn't see much red on his alt mode…the amg gt-r was mainly black and some red stripes.
but this pic here made the opposite: more red less black
so this is a concept art right?
Incepticon
Lol, well of course he's suddenly red with a new vehicle mode now. And of course, yet again, there will be zero explanation as to why.
Maybe this time around he'll have 4-5 different alt modes… that are again never, ever addressed.
YoungPrime
LOL at the Benz grill replacing what should be an Autobot insignia…..Or are Samurai/Ninja's that particular when it comes to labels.
That's Bay's crap for ya I guess!
vorox4251
the figure was still better than lockdown
personally just feel indifferent to the design, if it is early concept artwork, then so be it, bt maybe a pallete swap between hot rod and drift IS in order
CodeXCDM
…but he still has a yellow face…
Raiju
Interested in seeing his copter mode too. Maybe they'll mention Drift's time as a Con in a deeper context rather than just in passing this time around. Since they're finally facing real Decepticons in TLK, his past definitely should come into play more, or at least that's my hope.
Not before a 5-minute long scene of Lennox chugging a keg of Bud Light.
Barricade24
Yeah I didn't think it made sense for a mostly black alt mode to have a fully red robot mode. So hopefully this designs will change in time.
User_136440
They've only ever really done that with Optimus and Bumblebee, and that was only to refresh them after have no more or less the same look throughout three movies. Even Megatron, who had three distinct alt modes, kept the same basic robot form, just with different vehicle parts. Same with Mudflap when he changed from Trax concept to Spark (at least as far as we can tell from the toy).
Ironhide1234
Obviously these art reveals aren't final. To me, he's to red/orange to only have a strip of that colour along the bottom of the vehicle. Add more black and a little bit of change to his build and I'll take it!
That's old art as well, he's still got the W16 engine block on his back from the Bugatti Veyron!
ArmadaSentinel
I as hoping for a more updated robot mode, similar to how bee and optimus did last movie, but going by this I'd say Hound is likely to also just be a CG model reuse with slightly adjusted kibble.
The red is nice but honestly I think the original concept of the black with orange trim worked the best for him. Ive been trying to look at pictures of the Mercedes and I can't work out whether the colour is closer to a red or orange trim? Hopefully the toys go more towards the orange, especially if Hot Rod's gonna be sporting the red as well.
