Few weeks ago IDW started a mysterious new campaign to promote an upcoming initiative titled “Revolution“. In it, Transformers and other Hasbro brands join together for a bi-weekly 5 issue comic book event.
EW has the scoop:
Revolution will be a five-issue biweekly event series, starting this September, that will bring together all of the company’s Hasbro properties: G.I. Joe, Transformers, Micronauts, ROM, Action Man, and M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand)). In its wake, all the series will kick off with new number one issues and a new status quo.
IDW editor-in-chief Chris Ryall stated “We didn’t want this to be what fans have seen from so many others, which is a reboot or a relaunch where you’re asked to forget about all these characters and stories you’ve been following for years,” Ryall says. “It’s just now everybody will be acknowledging each other in a much greater way than ever before.”

Same here, it would be nice if they had that much tact.

EXCLUSIVE: Go Inside IDW's Hasbro Crossover "Revolution" with Video, New Variant | Comic Book Resources
Rob
I am hopping it will end up like Infestation; it's canon, but can be easily ignored.
MatrixOfWumbo
Why thank you!
I see what you're saying now. There should absolutely be a confrontation in the event series; it's SOP at this point for when comic characters meet one another. I just don't think you'll see too much of it once the event ends and they go their separate ways.
Rob
Joe issue #1? No they probably won't fight. The revolution event as a whole, I imagine avoiding a conflict will be hard. And by Joe I mean the franchise itself, it can be Cobra that fights them, point being worlds will collide violently and neither franchise will be better for it. Why? Because one is proportionately smaller than the other.
PS: very nice Galvatron, I like the shadowing .
MatrixOfWumbo
But if they make a Joe book that starts out with them fighting Transformers from issue 1 why would any GI Joe fans read the book? You're suggesting that the shared universe automatically makes GI Joe a companion series to The Transformers.
Rob
The time frame of AHO does not really apply to the end result of the event.
I definitely would not say "absolutely nothing has suggested that they are going to fight one another" Optimus is taking over human controlled earth by force, GI Joe represents a portion of human force on earth. For them not to have some form of conflict that results in a physical confrontation is illogical.
Sockie
Actually, it really looks like the start of Revolution is going to have the Joes and Optimus's forces clash (along with pretty much everyone else), with this cover, plus the quote from this interview:
Barber and Bunn also talk about fights between a bunch of the various factions in this story, and the above quote plus other stuff pretty much confirm that Optimus's annexing of Earth is continuing even after All Hail Optimus. That said, I really doubt the Joes are going to continue being an adversary for the Autobots after this crossover.
MatrixOfWumbo
Because All Hail Optimus takes place before the Revolution. Absolutely nothing has suggested that they're going to fight one another. It wouldn't make sense for either book, especially a Joe book that will only just have started. There's already a GI Joe vs the Transformers book.
Rob
How? Optimus is literally taking over earth with controlled force and using a hearts and mind strategy at this point in the IDW universe, how is Joe not going to get involved. Instead how about just put them in separate universes.
MatrixOfWumbo
Or to just not have them fight…
Rob
Totally agree. Even MASK if based on Cybertronian technology I'll stomach, but Joe has got to go .
Windsweeper II
I always felt it was ridiculous when a Transformers takes out a Transformer with a sword. But i think its ridiculous when a human takes out a Transformers in pretty much any way.
I could stomach ROM, MASK and Micronauts but i really don't want another GI Joe vs The Transformers.
Sockie
Giannis Milonogiannis, who's doing the art for the G.I. Joe tie-in, has posted some art previews on twitter.
Rob
No, but I always felt it was ridiculous when a human takes out a Transformer with a sword. Even when Spike took out Scrapper in universe it was so insanely improbable. The alternative is to give GI Joe Mech Suits and the like, but I imagine that would just turn Joe into the EDC which corrodes the GI Joe mythology making it lose its identity. Ialternatuvely is to weaken the Transformers making them more at the level of Joes, but I really don't want to see more of Spike taking on Autobots..
MatrixOfWumbo
Why? Are they going to be shooting each other on a regular basis?
Sixshot93
Just heard this news. I guess that Hasbro Cinematic Universe is really working out behind the scenes. Mind you I just got back into reading IDW TF comics so I pray I'll try and keep track.
Rob
Only one of three books is still a huge impact, especially when it's the main book. Also each franchise is going to have to take a knee of sorts to the other; Transformers characters will have to be physically weakened or GI Joe is going to have to be put on steroids thus weakening each of the sauces.
ezim93
Something silly but I think I figured out why this is called Revolution. There's a song called The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and most of these Hasbro properties had shows except for Micronauts and ROM. It's kind of clever in it's own way.
Spindoctor1200
If it comes to that, I'll just…umm…"acquire" those issues in ways I'd prefer not to since I understand writers/artists/etc gotta pay bills too. If they try to drive sales by splicing the story I do want into titles I was never going to buy, I won't be sorry for the failed attempt at picking my pockets.
But on that same token, I'm not made out of money either. I can only afford so much, then something has to give. I already cut expenses by sacrificing the collector in me and stopping that insane cover A/cover B bullshit at the issue 50's. I shudder to think how much reading that $$$ could have funded in the future had I forced that discipline sooner.
