““Transformers 5” will film in Detroit this summer in a big way, thanks to some creative transformation of previously approved Michigan film incentives.” writes Detroit Free Press. “The deal was achieved as a result of a plan that takes $42 million in film incentives approved for Paramount projects before the state’s program was eliminated in 2015 and uses half of that amount for a single amended agreement for “Transformers 5.””
“Transformers 5” expects to spend $80 million in the state during production. It anticipates hiring 450 Michigan residents as part of an estimated 850 cast and crew hires. There also will be a need for 700 extras.
Film office director Jenell Leonard praised the reallocation, saying in the announcement, “Having one of the highest-profile film franchises created in Michigan is a major economic boost and a testament to the talent of the state’s production community.”
Poor Detroit. Maybe Robocop should've let Dick Jones bulldoze over it all those years ago in the not-too-distant future.
Anyway, Transformers 5. Maybe we'll see what the dinobots have been up to since Prime just kinda turned them loose on an alien world full of sentient life I guess with the best intentions that they'd wouldn't… kill everything.
I wonder what Cybertronian artifact they'll stumble across this time. Maybe that giant gold bee thing that shoot lasers… or Dinobot Island… or Atlantis… Time traveling? Electrum? Kremzeek? Bay's running out of g1 episodes to cram together and sprinkle sex jokes over.
I've got it, Autobot Marky Mark!
Oh cool…will you be our inside source or will you have to sign a NDA?
I know that's the joke.
There's a difference between soapboxing and calling someone out on complete disrespect and a bullshit comparison.
Will anyone even noticethe difference?
Yeah, I agree. I may dislike these movies, but come on. Have some decency.
And the best part is, when they're done, they won't have to worry about cleaning up the mess.
I have a soap box I can rent you for cheap. If you're the spending money type, I've got a high horse. Give me a couple of days and I might be able to find four soap boxes for you to stand the horse on.
Did you seriously just compare a movie to a crisis which has literally killed people?
Talk about no class.
It's a fucking movie, good use would be fixing the lead problem in Flint.
Congratulations, Michigan! Don't worry about the lead in your water, you can pay for TF5 instead. Hard to say which is more poisonous or brain-damaging.
well we had tons of running extras for the fight scenes
please put this money to good use please put this money to good use
700?! Dang that's a lot. But I guess they had about that many extras for each of the other movies…right? Can't recall.
Man, I wish they did that for TX in TF4.
I'd bet my company gets called again to work on the set. We did the first and last movies when they filmed in Detroit. Did Real Steel, Red Dawn (remake) and Superman vs Batman as well.
It'll be fun to see them blow the crap out of Detroit.
All that and they just throw the backgrounds in the recycle bin or replace the skyline with even more tasteless casinos in post. When you can recognize features it gives odd perspective. I was more worried about the Boblo boat than Ratchet.
I was about to mention that myself. I also think AOE had a lot of Animated elements thrown into the movie and it would be sweet if it continued in TF5 as well.
Well my Dad is from Detroit & I went there Last August.
So yeah, I'm fine with this.
If anyone is in the industry as well, as best I can tell this is the production info
I sent mine in for crew, but you've got a much better bet being an extra
Detroit. Looks the the Bronx in the 80's.
