Dropping hints during a radio interview with WGN Chicago, director Michael Bay stated that they will be returning to Chicago for the principal photography of Transformers 5.
As of now, the scale of the shooting is not mentioned. Chicago may have a Transformers: Dark Of The Moon scale of shooting or may double for another location like Transformers: Age Of Extinction.
Mr. Bay was also critical about production companies wanting to do big budget franchises instead of stories like 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi which is currently a commercial and a critical success.
2005 Boards Member Jimmy88 brings us this news and is eagerly waiting to update us from Chicago, much like his massive coverage during Transformers 3.

Well, when Florida becomes the multi-billion dollar lifeline Hollywood needs, that will probably become a possibility.
zachprime86
They really should film in Florida sometime. Like in Orlando and/or Miami.

I'm wondering how Galvatron will mention how this is 'all going according to plan.'
Pretty much since the first film, they have given him the biggest, most convoluted plan in the film series:
Rendezvous with Sentinel on Earth while still being under orders to kill Optimus Prime so that the Fallen could return to life while also looking for the Allspark to rule the universe while needing Prime in order for him to find the Matrix thereby getting killed by it and then a shard of it brings him back to life wherein he teams back up with the Fallen and then swears revenge while waiting for Prime to reactivate Sentinel with the Matrix thereby allowing them to bring Cybertron into Earth's orbit and use Earth's resources then that fails with and then have Prime kill Megatron and decapitate him so that his head will be used by a tech firm and Megatron can manipulate them to rebuild him in a brand new body then lead an inept fleet of cubist Earth-made Transformers before just abandoning the fight swearing Prime will get his another day.
…are we all clear?

It still leaves questions – there's no way the military would allow a civilian R&D and engineering firm access to the spoils of a recent battlefield. Again there are plenty of good, in-story justifications we could use: KSI could be a top level contractor to the military and thus got dibs or when they discovered the Transformium independently of any material from Chicago, the Dept. of Defence and DARPA reached out to them and they came to an amicable agreement.
That said, I feel the true answer is Attinger, although I don't think the director of the CIA has that much power.
Dotmshockwave
Yes in real life, but remember this is a movie. And story wise it makes sense that ksi would be there.
Gordon_4
That place would have been locked up tighter than a Scot's bank. Military cordons, the works. KSI would need to be a top level military contractor to gain access to the corpses in Chicago, and even then the big question would be "Why KSI and not DARPA?"
Dotmshockwave
Actually there was a huge reason. Why not use the CRAP LOADS of dead transformers in Chicago as fuel for the project. Why not set up base there? Makes sense to me.

I kinda sorta wish they would film in St. Louis…only because that's closer to where I live than Chicago, lol. But Chicago does look prettier than most of St. Louis.
spikebuster
I wish they would film in Kansas City .
AutobotJazz1
Wow…Cybertronians really have something against Chicago
Grimmjow
Chicago…a third time? Can the southeastern US get some representation? It's time for the Decepticons to tear up Atlanta!
merphul
didn't you guys know? the TF movies are a statement about the needs of refugees fleeing conflict and subsequent integration (Autobots/alt-modes) and the attempts of aggressors to disguise themselves among the refugees/populace (Decepticons/alt-modes). The subplots of granting Autobots asylum on Earth, then deciding to rescind it (repeatedly) and telling them to get out of our country/planet. it's 100% political!!
ok, that's just crap, and anyone who believes it needs to adjust their tinfoil hat. I'm pretty sure Michael Bay's only political statement is "America! F&*# yeah!"
seriously though, why Chicago again? I accept a lot of Bay-isms in the films, but how many movies/conflicts can be centered in one place. Even in AOE they only trashed Chicago as a side project before heading to China for the real fight (which yeah I know, was an effort to pander to Chinese audiences). There was no story reason to go back to Chicago in AOE, they could have put KSI anywhere, and you'd think a city that's been wrecked by giant transforming robots before would just lose their shit if they found out a company HQ'd there was building giant transforming robots. I don't recall a swarm of protestors outside of KSI in AOE…
In any case the "KSI" is in Chicago reason is weak, even though the HQ being in Chicago is now part of the mythos. KSI is a multi-national company and last I checked their "we thought we were building Autobots but turns out they were all Decepticon" factory, not to mention last known location Galvatron, was in Hong Kong. You're telling me that he decided that trashing China, Russia or India (all of whom have say significant militaries and production factories and… nukes) will all be passed up to trash Chicago… again?
Maybe Mr. Bay just really likes the deep dish there.
I hope the new movie replaces "Remember Chicago" billboards with "Oh Please God, Not Us Again. -Chicago" billboards.
TFW10
I thought Chicago was suing Bay for damages?
Calabask
Calling a movie a critical and commercial success is hardly political. And trust me, we're not trying to push any narrative here. SO just reported what they knew and observed. Let's all chill out and talk about the new movie and just how low our expectations should be for us to enjoy it.
Rodimus Prime
Someone had to take over the title after George sold off Lucasarts.
Shepard Prime
Oddly, the only one talking politics is you. Everyone else is carrying on with the usual Bay bashing/supporting and talking about the part that's relative to the site, which is Transformers.
Further, no one (in their right mind) would accuse TFW2005 of having a political bias when the only reason why the article is posted is due to the interview having to do with TFs/filming in Chicago.
SilverOptimus
Whoa, whoa, whoa guys!
I did NOT meant anything political. I can't think of anything political on my post.
Besides, I'm friends with several Movie Critics who said very good things about 13 Hours. I wrote it with honesty.
Livingdeaddan
It's all America to me!
Hound89
Nice to see the mid west get more representation honestly., i'm sick of new york and cali
EagleTron
I heard Chicago as a state is nice and clean and new compared to other states.
