In gearing up for their upcoming Kickstarter campaign, Play With This Too has shown off a new render image of their redesigned Wastelander figure done by their designer Albie Lim. Wastelander is a repaint of their Boneyard figure modeled after a certain fan favorite velociraptor themed character.
In addition to general change in color scheme, Wastelander’s human head is done to make it individualized from Boneyard’s. The release will comes with 3 sets of hands, sword and blaster, triceratops shield that can be used as the figure’s head. Check out the image after the jump, and let us know if you are excited for Play With This Too’s Kickstarter campaign in September.

I can see that, especially with the grey hair on this version.

Can't see very well, but to me I see a touch of Cable (Nate Summers) in that headsculpt.
So you can have both a TF toy and an Xmen toy.
Cool.

The triceratops head is super bad ass

I think they said that all the heads on this mold will start the same. Different heads is a stretch goal. So expect 4 different Arnold heads in different decos to start.

yep, same dude with a spray tan this time :/

Albie mentioned that the triceratops head on Wastelander is inspired by "another character", I wonder if he means Guiledart from Beast Wars Neo?

Albie Lim talked about Wastelander and Jetstrike in episode 90 of the Repacked Podcast. He's the guy who is doing the digital coloring of these figures.
Talking about Wastelander Albie worked long on fitting all the colors on the 3D model based on the old paint reference sheet. He called it a "chopperface" motif. He said Rik said to put some lines on the sword to make it like Dinobot's tail sword. The triceratops head is a reference to "another character". The hosts liked the grey hair on the head of this figure. They said it looked like an old warrior, and reminded them of the old Terminator in the new Genesis movie.
He starts talking about Play With This Too at about 1 hour 25 minutes into this show:

Hopefully the human head would be similar to one in the Masterforce cartoon. Looking at the old Astroblast and Metalhawk it seems like the lower body legs are pretty close. I'd probably like to see more new parts for the arms and torso though. I need to look that old sketch up. I thought PWTT's Metalhawk design borrowed more from Jetstrike.
More on topic. The paint job on the sword is a nice touch. I think the robot head looks great with the Wastelander deco. The paint job seems to make the details pop more than Boneyard deco.

I am curious about Ironstrike as well, considering I'm a big Masterforce fan. We have seen one design sketch, and looking at it you can see it's a remolded Astroblast. I wonder that if the Jetstrike gets molded first now because priorities have changed, if Ironstrike will get redesigned to use more of Jetstrike's parts. You could easily use the feet, upper arms, upper legs and waist piece from Jetstrike in it's design instead of those from Astroblast.

I hope if PWTT are successfully they are able to flesh out the Metalhawk concept more. Looking at pictures of the old pretenders there is the basis for some interesting action figures. Skyhammer, Crossblades, Pincher, Bumblebee, Jazz, Bugly and Roadblock all look they could be pretty cool action figures in hands of a modern sculptor and with different, more detailed paint decos from other 80s/90s properties.
But Boneyard and Jetstrike are looking good with some nice options.

First thing we need to all work on is hitting that funding goal. Then we can add upgrades like swords, jetpacks, extra heads, extra armor, Tech Drones, additional figures etc.
We're going to keep our prices as cheap as possible.

Any chance that Weastelander could have any Dinobot inspired weapons in the future?

I might go for a Wastelander….

Not sure myself what I'm willing to pay for them but I do like the MOTU classics feel they have…my interest is still high and will wait to see a finished product…
If these first couple releases are successful are you planning on doing all of the pretenders?…
OriginalFire
These guys all look really cool
PWTToo
We're still waiting on a few quotes from the factories before we can price these. We'll keep them as cheap as we possibly can. That's why we did the redesign and pushed the Tech Drones to later on.
Not sure who will carry these afterwards, but lots of places have expressed interest.
defstar
So has a price point been mentioned for these guys?…also will retailers such as BBTS sell them or will it be direct from PWTT?…
Moroni Prime
He revealed it during our show last night, TFYLP 165.

Really like this deco. Maybe even better than original. I guess that leaves two more Jetstrike paint jobs and one more repaint of Boneyard to be revealed.
