It’s a lazy Saturday afternoon here so why not check out a random photo shoot for a recent figure – the Tokyo Toy Show 2015 Black Convoy. This came in during the frenzy of the summer con season and I was finally able to get around to shooting it recently. Some may know I am a big Robots in Disguise fan – the OG RID, not the current series. 15 years later and I still try to get a hold of all the homages, reuses, and updated characters so I had to have him!
This is a repaint of the Reveal the Shield G2 Optimus Prime mold, which is perfect because the original Black Convoy toy in Car Robots used the G2 Optimus Prime mold as well. This was also done as a club exclusive, though a bit differently, as Scourge in recent times. The TTS2015 version however stays true to the Japanese toy with a pinkish hue to the clear plastic, no big G2 symbol on the door, and a darker grey base. The paint apps are also in more abundance and a bit sharper. Overall it’s a pretty awesome upgrade and very close to what we hoped for a couple years ago with our Scourge NOT NEMESIS PRIME meme on the boards. If this was shifted to a red tint on the clear plastic and swapped to Decepticon symbols, it would be a perfect Hasbro / Scourge upgrade in my opinion, one can only hope!

Yeah I think that's what I meant, the two little grooves near the hips.
CyberDragon10K
Wait, what? The gas tanks peg into the legs for the truck mode? I always thought they settled into grooves while the tanks closed over the fists to hide them. Am I missing something?
Tony_Bacala
Someone asked me that yesterday actually. Throughout that shoot, which I popped the sword in and out many times on both hands, no stress marks showed up on mine. Plastic was harder, took some effort getting it in and out. Don't have the original to compare with tho.
payres
It's a pretty fantastic toy.
As yet I'm not seeing, or hearing reported, any of the plastic stress round the hands that the previous versions suffered from.

Mine also has crummy thigh swivels, and the gas tank backpack doesn't tab into the legs in vehicle mode. It's a really sharp deco on a pretty solid mold, but the QC is just awful this time around.

Awesome gallery there.

My right thigh swivel was loose (fixed with some clear tape). Either the right knee was mispinned, or there was to much plastic on it. It prevented the leg from being fully straight and it required some shaving to fix.
JukeOutlander
Thanks for that. I didn't get to watch rid so I had to dig a bit more. Now it makes sense, haha.

I noticed the right hip/thigh swivel is a bit loose. Not that bad, though.
What's the story in the comic/manual about?
Blitz.
I'm flipping between this with the MT battle tanker set or just getting their Nemesis figure. I really love this character but this actual design has always been a bit off to me.
TacticalBacon
Mine should be arriving in a few days.
GPTF01
So is mine but only the right thigh swivle
Matty
Awesome shots boss man. This one is on my wish list for sure.
OriginalFire
This guy is pretty awesome
Knightsword
Just swap the forearms between the two and slap some reprolabels on the empty doors and take the blue paint off the former Black Convoy parts.
Edit- Or just push the door pins out, rather easy it seems.

I'd always seen in video reviews that the KOs for the battle tanker were surprisingly sturdy. I ended up getting one out of curiousity, and it works fine as just the tanker.
The leg attachments don't work too well for trailer storage or the super mode though, and I'm not bothering with the head swap. No idea if the legs in super mode is due to my trepidation or bad tolerances (there's stressing like an over-tightened screw inside one of the leg bits). There's also rusted screws in places. Haven't noticed stripped ones.
There's also another KO set that was the magnus/shattered glass prime stuff. But it's the same cost as the main tanker KO.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
I got this guy on the way, and he'll be standing tall with my TFCC Scourge as well.
Jetbolt
I really like this gallery.
Purple Heart
Yeah there where some KO's of them, not that good though.
I'm more temtped to get this guy as TFCC's is priced high. But then I'd have 2 Scourges.
