The one that was on auction was one of only two that is known to exist in this configuration (stickers, missile launcher, missiles, unique mold). The existence of any others is only speculation, rumor or conjecture. No others like it have surfaced.

I guess the biggest thing to consider is that the one on auction was called a "counter sample". I discussed this term a couple of weeks ago with a former Kenner/Hasbro senior design engineer (one of their top guys doing Star Wars POTF2 back then) and the word was that this would be the equivalent of a fully designed sample identical to the planned release. The term "Production Pilot" is used to describe an sample indistinguishable to those sold in stores, but those sample are packaged.

So while there are other Menasors that are at various test shot levels which were known to exist (i.e. the other ones see on internet) before my Menasor auction last year, there are only 2 confirmed to exist in a final state of production.

Let's keep this on topic? The person selling the G2 Menasor has his reasons, and I feel drudging up past events will not accomplish anything more than rekindling internet fire.

The G2 Defensor gallery post is nice to look at, and I am sure many are appreciative to even be able to see something like that in existence. It is not up for auction, it is just a photo gallery.

Yes I agree, dredging up the that situation is of no purpose, it only served to give haters something to talk about, as it would if the conversation was started again.

Fact is, he is still incredibly rare, and most if not all of the sets are in the hands of people who have no interest in sharing them, which is the only reason the seller could even "misrepresent" the auction in the first place (assuming you buy that argument). The onus is on the buyer to know the facts no matter how they are presented by a seller, within reason. Hasbro may constantly advertise more paint apps on the box than their final toys get, but if you aren't wise to that by now, you get what you deserve. It is called personal responsibility.

The fact the set was missing a Menasor head would probably have kept me out of the running no matter the price anyway, but he will always be worth what someone is willing to pay, whether there are secret stashes of him or not really ins't relevant. There could be thousands of him, but if no one ever sells one, the market will reflect that supply rarity over actual quantity. I find it incredibly hypocritical to claim fraud on the part of the seller based on information you were privy to yet chose not to ever share with the fandom. That is basically what started all of this, including the involvement of people already involved with businesses known not for their ethics.

Frankly I don't see why anyone takes any sides in this or why it had to be a negative experience. If you have $26K to spend on eBay and are upset afterwards, sell it again. If people aren't willing to bid what they were last time thanks to thinking there are tons of these or something, then I guess the market has peaked. It happens. Buyer beware, but let's keep some perspective here.

What happened?

Last year, a seller put up an unreleased G2 stunticons/menasor set on ebay. It's special because it has stickers, and some mold changes. The seller, as well as this site, hype up the set as being incredibly rare.

Someone wins the auction at $26,815.00
He is under the impression that the set is practically one-of-a-kind, or close to that, due to the auction description.

The transaction is carried out.

The buyer then learns that the seller actually has more G2 menasors, and felt that the seller was being purposely misleading to get people to believe that the set was more rare than it actually is.

The seller says, 'sorry, no refunds'

Sad to see this. HighPrime, the winner of last year's auction for the G2 Stunticons prototypes which were sold by the OP of this thread, has now put those same items for sale on eBay after winning those items for around $26,000 a year ago. According to the listing he can't stand to look at them anymore. That whole episode appears to have ended badly.

Good to finally see full photos of this set. Defensor actually has quite a few complimentary colors across the members despite the rainbow effect.

When I shot some of these, I was forced in to making a few choices that were dictated on prevention of damage to the items.

I don't know what to tell you about Grooves. My concern the entire time was First Aid and his potential for GPS. First Aid was the focus of my attention the entire time.

That was not my first choice for Blades (I discuss some of this on a few pics on my FB page where I have them posted https://www.facebook.com/z75sales).

Blades is notorious for breaking off the rotor blade. The two rotors nest tightly (imagine two washer touching that have slight teeth where then nest together), the act of transforming them bends those teeth by design; on new transformers these nest tightly and must be forced slightly to transformer. I did not want to force them.

In fact, in the other G2 Defensor pictured on the internet (the one with the Menasor by his side) Look at his rotor blades… it is broken in the exact same spot and only has one rotor blad.

I don't mind answering a few questions here, but you'll get a better response from me on FB regarding specific about what i learned examining them, and I am giving away some stuff there in a few days as well.

Excellent and logical reasoning. Thanks for sharing that. No disrespect intended. It just seemed like some odd posing all around. Taking the value of these figures into account, it makes a lot more sense.
