It was announced recently that Transformers 5 is planned for 2017. Many have been wondering who would be directing, as it was confirmed last year that Michael Bay would not be directing Transformers 5. However, things change and money talks.
Deadline has reported that Michael Bay is hard at work developing Transformers 5. NOTE: This could mean he is just producing the movie, not directing it; he did the same thing last year for the Ninja Turtles movie. So while it’s easy to assume that Bay is directing Transformers 5(given the context of the article), it may be too early to know(it’s not outright stated that he’s the director). At CinemaCon, Paramount’s Vice President Rob Moore let out what Bay was working on:
He also promised the theater owners that Michael Bay was hard at work developing a fifth Transformers movie since the first four have made an astounding $3.7 worldwide, music to the ears of this crowd which is ALL about box office. But first Bay is directing Thirteen Hours, a war movie set around a daring rescue mission in Benghazi that is already set for release on Martin Luther King weekend next January. It was previously reported that Bay would direct 13 Hours instead of Transformers 5. Stay tuned to our Transformers News for further updates!

"G1"-errs in not complaining. I have a friend who walked out of the first quarter of the TF4 movie and returned to work late because he felt that it was a waste of his money. (I did warn him)
People "whine" because we think it deserves better. It might gross a heck of a lot more if it wasn't for the fandom. Furious 7 Gross higher without the IMAX 3D and XD 3D.
The movies aren't the best way to get people into it, the toys and the series are. If Bay did Generation 1, the series would be as dead as Go-bots.
And TMNT sucked too and it has Bay's signature all over it.

Completely unrelated to this topic but what version of Bumblebee is that in the second to last figure at the bottom right?

I know its a different film but ive just seen Avengers AOU.. And Bay would dream to do a film like this.
Galvatron II
Yeah, I won't be seeing this,
This is so ridiculously untrue. The fundamentals of drama are what makes people excited, or laugh, and they're what makes those emotions actually stick with them. Critics recognize this; the Fast and Furious franchise made a massive turnaround in their perception when those movies came to understand how to tell their story through characters.

Appreciated I'm certainly not saying you can't hate Bay or the movies… no one should tell you what to like or hate.
I tend to think critics aren't the most reliable when it comes to action and comedy as they tend to look for something beyond the basics, does it make people excited, or make them laugh. Critics are much more reliable when it comes to drama, as those are the films that are pushing for a deeper meaning.
I also know a lot of fans who dislike the movies as well as norms (non transformers fans), but in general those are people in their 30's or older. I don't talk to a lot of teenagers and 20 somethings and that is a huge part of the movie going public, those are in general the ones without kids, who have more disposable income.
For some reason the law of diminishing returns is not happening with the live action movies as they keep making more money or in the case of the 4th movie, about the same.
It would be great if they rebooted the movie series, but I'm entertained by the live action movies, they are the equivalent of a fireworks display, not a whole lot of depth but can be a lot of fun to watch. The films have enough basic drama to keep the movies interesting in between the explosions.

Those movies are terrible.

That's the thing, though; the same people are wasting time in every one of these threads. I've ignored it for years, but I just can't fathom how people aren't bored of it all.
Although, I think it is inevitable Bay will get replaced someday. He can't keep up the exact same thing (however he might not with a new writer ) and still rake in the same people.
AOE has a 52% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so…
Kind of a giant contrast with the critic rating, no?

Critics are just people with opinions. My opinion is as valid as theirs'

Me too. I guess I can't blame him though. Making Paramount a few billion every couple years gives him the leverage to make his own pet project movies like Pain and Gain. I'll give him one thing- he knows how to put a spectacle on screen.

TMNT wasn't awful, but it was by no means of the imagination good. You could really say that about any movie he produces and doesn't direct – I Am Number Four, Project Almanac, The Purge movies (well actually the Purge movies suck but anyway). He knows what the people want – they just want shit, is all.

Agreed, and I edited the post. I went beyond overboard, and I apologize to whomever I offended. I stand by the original message though – I really do NOT want Bay associated with these films. However, I doubt my bitching will solve much of anything. That being said, it's still baffling to me how critics can continue to tear these movies a new one every time they come out, how most of the general public can say they hate it, and yet people still go to watch it and they rake in piles of cash. I'm being serious, about 3/4 of the people I meet, whenever Transformers comes up in conversation, say how shitty the Bay films are. How they keep happening is beyond my comprehension.

I do honestly feel that while I enjoy the films the biggest hinderance to them is Bay as a director.
With that said I have to ask: has it been specified if Bay is directing or is he simply producing this time? and how much of a difference does that make (IE TMNT had Bay producing but not directing if I recall correctly; how was that film?)

When shits broke you dont just sit there and go yep do ya! Although the only time we had a gripe big enough to make the studio step in was the horrible head design for megatron . They changed it .
vektsilver
Are the Transformers only an action title really. Hell even G1 had epsiodes of depth that far exceed Bays capacity for human emotion.
The only way his reign of terror will end is either by act of god or if you people stop shelling out cash for the horrible movies. It wont get better if you keep paying to keep it this way. God and to think I feel bad for the turtles fans too . lol
The Ramjet
Damn, that's pretty scary when you realise some people on here have been saying the exact same things about something they dislike for almost 10 years.
That's uh, dedication I guess, also kinda weird too.
Hot Shot.
Of course.
Hollywood Hoist
Hey you know that horribly traumatic experience that you had that will stay with you the rest of your life, well that's just like my experience when I heard that Michael Bay was going to work on TF5. A disgusting comparison.
Hollywood Hoist
Can we say the same about Bay ruined my childhood?

I know, in all honesty it was a poorly chosen word on my part out of my frustration over getting more of the same.
Sad part is there is not a single current Transformers narrative source I like. I don't like RID 2.0 (Once it get's a couple of seasons in the can I'll give it another try, but right now no), I don't like the IDW Comics and I certainly don't like Captain Toilet Humor Explosion Fest Bay's Movies.
One Word. NO!
