People who have seen the movie have confirmed that stinger is in fact his own character.

Well…to me that was just another random guy getting blasted by Bumblebee just like all the other random guys getting blown to bits by Autobots in all the trailers. So without people over-analyzing it and posting here, I wouldn't have ever known it was Stinger. So being incredulous about a spoiler in a trailer is a bit extreme as it really wasn't.
Given the shots they've shown Optimus take in the trailers, I would be less surprised to find out one of them was his death than this being Stinger's. (even if I could have told it was him from the split second the scene is even shown)

I tried watching these and really non of them are a spoiler!?!?! I don't get what the deal is. Sorry to who ever made the initial news post, but, Stingers and or Vehicon deaths don't count as a character death. They are just like droids in the Star Wars Clone Wars…cannon fodder for the good guys to kill things.

i think it's because he's being blown apart and his parts are being damaged.
if you get a heart transplant.. and they give you a bad heart, you probably won't survive.. but putting a good heart back in the body, you probably will.
all of his damaged parts probably don't have the ability to fit back together.
it's a bad analogy, i know.. but you get the idea.

While the new transformers can transform by splitting into all those parts, if killed while in their solid "all together" form, they are dead.

There are more stingers…look closely. Ratchet will die at the beginning of the film.
