Hat tip to TFW2005 boards member jru42287 for providing us with our first image of the Toys R Us exclusive Masterpiece Sunstorm. We’ve been getting a few tidbits of news about this guy lately, namely his price and possible release date in June. We now have a single image, although still a little hard to make out, revealing the deco for this figure. Sunstorm looks to be a different shade of orange from the Takara release with red detailing around the thighs and shins, as well as what looks like a brown colored helmet. Hopefully official stock images will arrive soon to confirm.
Also included with the image is the full bio of Sunstorm, which you can read in its entirety after the jump.
What do you think of the North American release of Sunstorm? Sound off after the break. Fly too close to the sun and you’ll get burned. Get too close to Sunstorm, and you’ll be dissolved into a puddle of liquid scrap. The maniacal warrior’s radiation-emitting armor has the power to melt the metal of nearby bots, disabling their circuits and scrambling their brain module in the process. Some might say this is a quirk of science – a glitch that triggered a reaction when Sunstorm was forged. Sunstorm himself would say it’s something more: a gift from higher power that he must use on those who deserve to feel his wrath. That might be a little much, but do you really want to argue with him? Autobots beware, because the ultimate Decepticon flier is on the hunt for someone to fight! He converts from robot mode to fighter jet mode, and in either mode he’s armed for major combat. His canopy and nose cone open in jet mode and his hidden missile pods deploy when he gets an Autobot in his sights! Set him on his stand in your collection when the fight is over for the day. Get a high-flying Decepticon with incredible battle features with this Masterpiece Sunstorm Figure! Transformers and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro.

Someone posted last week that the DCs were getting them in, so they should be showing up any day now.

Yeah, when they showed this at Botcon (I think it was there, maybe TTS) they had a little placard in front of the display saying it was available "NOW", and that was like a month or so ago almost. At this rate though, I'm guessing their release online and in store will be closely tied to SDCC like they did with Soundwave and Acid Storm last year.
Hopefully they don't make us wait until SDCC 2015 for Sideswipe.
LegendAntihero
I thought it would be released around Comic Con since Entertainment Earth sold some Masterpieces at their booth

So… Any idea when he's coming out? Its been how long since his release in Canada, and my coupon is about to expire.

I actually really like this deco, so don't feel sorry for me
But I did point this out a long time ago when the box shots first went up and I agree with you. Hasbro is either too lazy to take more photos of the correct mp-11 mold based toy inside, or just doesn't care. It's a weird oddity but hopefully most people buying mp product have researched what they are getting before blindly buying this in the store.

Awesome, thanks!

311207 for Sunstorm, and for anyone wondering what Prowl's is, that one is 115253.

What's a "real" Sunstorm? Do you mean Hasbro will be stuffing this with KOs?
BZiggyZ
Do we have the TRU item number yet?

It isn't feigning ignorance on the part of the consumer when a windowless box contains a product that looks nothing like what is pictured on the box, disclaimer or not. Hasbro has long been in the business of fraudulent advertising (always more paint apps and not less, gee funny how that works), but this example is really bad, and on a high end product. At the end of the day, you can just tell they don't care. So I don't care to pretend they do either.
Thankfully I was able to buy the real Sunstorm, but I feel sorry for those who'd like a more reasonably affordable opportunity at him and instead have…this.

I would buy that MP-3 mold in a heartbeat if it actually looked that good.
Dark Skull
They actually showed that box off at Botcon. A lot of people know already what they're going to get. But you're right. People can still feign ignorance.

The Sunstorm we're getting looks nothing like what's depicted on that box. I'm not just talking about which SS mold they used, but the color scheme. If that box actually ends up on store shelves, then Hasbro is guilty of some pretty disgusting false-advertising. Anyone who purchases Sunstorm based on that box should have the right to return him for a full refund once they open him up and see what they actually bought.

A $129 for Sunstorm? You've got to be kidding me.
Autovolt 127
That's just odd. Perhaps it's similar to the whole Generations Nightbeat thing.
monkeyman905
So will this be MP-11 mold???
Ribieconvoy
No, it looks like the mock-up used for official photos was made using the MP3 mold, but the final product will utilize the MP11 mold. Images of a custom were used for solicitations, but this matches up way too closely to the officially shown colorscheme. Changing molds wouldn't be unheard of, as they did the same thing with Generations Nightbeat.

I thought I read somewhere that the package art was a picture of a custom Sunstorm.

Weird?!
