Third party group MakeToys has been on a roll lately and they do not appear to be slowing down. Announced earlier today on their website are plans for a new Citybot transformer named Pandinus. This figure is a clear homage to the menacing Decepticon Scorponok, but the design sketches reveal a very different take on the character while still remaining true and recognizable to the Generation 1 character. MakeToys provided a brief description of this next Citybot:
The Next Citybot will be Pandinus! The Pandinus is under development and we are revealing some of the conceptual sketches. The initial idea was to develop a bulky and muscular character that can transform into a giant scorpion and a ruined city. It features a pair of giant claw-like arms and a huge scorpion stinger. Further information on gimmicks and an alternate mode will be announced later. No other information is available at this time, so keep it locked on TFW to stay up to date as this project rolls along. Images after the jump!

Little late to the party but I've finally acquired 1. Think it's topped double evil as my favourite piece. Bad pic but the only place I can currently fit them both for the pic. Pandinus and double evil are pretty much the same hight head to head.

TR header master might be too small, I showed in the upper screenshot with the TR Scorponok head.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm gonna see if i can dig out a TR headmaster, I also might have a few extra faceplates from some figures i might see if i can mod on.

I just compared, one cheap options is this 2011 tfcon headmaster upgrade-kit for onSlaught.
It's pretty cheap with several versions, I bought mine about 6 months ago, with onslaught together about $30 CAD.

So BBTS had a "defective" loot box with one of these for $200 two weeks ago, and I figured with the rarity and secondary price I've seen for it it was worth it to pull the trigger. Got it a few days ago, it's beautiful, but I discovered the "defective" part of it is that it's missing the headmaster. Anyone have an idea on where I could find something to use to fill the head? I'm honestly indifferent to the headmaster, but I'd like to have a face and the head to not be hollow

So this guy, team him the Decepticon the Iron Factory Samurais?
Yay or Nay?

Is there anyway to contact Maketoys for support now or is that no longer an option? I bought one recently however it's missing one of the clear toe claws.

Can anyone show me a comparison of this with fanshobby double evil or their Ginrai?

I opted for the Black Zarak version instead because I found the Scorponok colors too gaudy, but man that Decepticon nsignia stinger remains one of the coolest design bits I've seen on any figure. I really wish they kept it on Devil stinger.

Hi.
Only recently got a Pandinus, second hand, but just unpacked the figure today.
I've had a chance to transform it from robot to any of the other modes, but overall I'm impressed so far.
One thing I help with though.
It was shipped in robot mode, not in original packaging, so some of the parts got displaced from the figure during shipping.
It seems that I've got all that was supposed to come with figure, and was able to put almost everything back on, with one exception.
The shoulder panels that can be used toclip on the missile racks somehow came off, and I'm not sure how to reattach them.
Here are some pictures:
The panels
The connection point.
Has anyone else had these come ogg?
And if so what is the safest way to put them back on?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Yeah, I never really prodded into the reasoning for the change from one to the other. Maybe I should poke that person though I'm not even sure if they're active in the community anymore.
Treadshot 2.0
That's definitely the problem. Trypticon would have had much wider hips than a humanoid character… they would have been able to point down, then.
Sometimes it's better to just restart from scratch.

True. I wish I had Pandinus. I always loved the sculpt of the figure. Kind of sad I missed the boat on him. Maketoys did do some odd decisions though design wise, and I'm not sure why they did them. Maybe it was just a case of somehow being missed, or maybe it was caught after production started. I know the Dinobots got rushed due to the Dinobot wars, though how they did Snarl's tail was just bad in robot mode.
Still wish they had done a black repaint of Hypernovae, the wings being able to move into a "Shooting" position still makes him one of the strongest Nova Prime figures we have.

Eh maybe. But its always been the leg pipes and width of the feet that were the issue. The joints are fully capable of clicking in to the right position, those bits just for some reason were made as wide as they were.
And its not like they needed to be for either alt mode so it makes no sense.
But then Cassy Sark did a similar thing with the inner leg flaps on Hexatron and the beast legs on Feralrex. I think some designers just don't seem to realize how important a straight leg stance is for a toy.
You can have very wide limbs on a figure and still address this kind of thing with secondary hip joints or careful sculpting or in Pandinus' case maybe hinges for the toes alone would have solved it.
Calabask
Noting your complaints stem mostly from the legs, I think part of the issue is that Pandinus started off as a Trypitocn Design, it's mostly inherent in the legs, from what I was told years back. They had the legs sort of done, but then converted it from Trypticon to Scorponok, which is probably why the stance is weird and why the legs are the way they are.

Thank you for this information!

I'm glad Hasbro is making a version for those that don't like or have pandy. I also think that comparing anything Hasbro does to the current generation of 3p is laughable. There just isn't any comparison when u look at build quality, materials, hardware, etc.
All of my hasbro stuff is hollow and cheap feeling. Sure I enjoy it but it's the same to me as enjoying a mcchicken at McDonald's vs. a $100 dry aged steak. I can appreciate and enjoy McDonald's for what it is, but I'd never compare it to a steak and try to suggest it's better….
