As the Wonder Festival 2014 Coverage begins to slow down for Transformers, we get to the strangest possible story from tonight. Teased a while back via Takara Tomy’s webpage, the long teased shadow of a possible Megatron toy in their upcoming Takara Tomy ARTS toyline has been revealed to be something quite strange indeed: A Transforming Sega Mega Drive (Or Sega Genesis, for North American readers) that turns into a Generation 1 Megatron.
No, that’s not a typo, and no you’re not hallucinating.
Part of a partnership with SEGA, this upcoming release is part of a subline of Takara Tomy ARTS alongside Video Game Robotics HD and Microman Arts, and while the prototype itself is extremely rough, a recently placed sign by staff members working the display has revealed that the upcoming Transformers Crossovers/Device Label-esque toy will in fact transform from Sega Mega Drive to Megatron.
It is unknown if this toy is a one-shot release, or if this is merely a harbinger of what is to come into this fledgling toyline (One would hope an OptiSNES Prime would be there to combat Mega Drive Megatron) but stay tuned to TFW2005 as we bring you the latest (and sometimes strangest) news as it happens.

I definitely love this guy (outside of those feet). A shame that heels couldn't have just folded out of his toe section. Or things have just hard-pegged into position.
Either way – I made a little review: brickonator's Tumblr 2: Electric Somethingorother — MEGA DRIVE MEGATRON

exactly. I actually out in a preorder for the genesis version, but after sleeping on it I canceled it – I was already iffy with the original release at < $90, let alone $120 before shipping.

I'm with you there. But I'm not too upset, I love my small collection of japanese games, mostly Saturn Capcom fighters, and I always wanted a Megadrive. I'm also a fan of alliteration.
I can't wait for O.P. Optimus Prime. I'm playing Lunar SSS Complete to get ready.

I have the original release, if this was available at an import shop I would've gotten it. After the first release, I can't justify $120 for this guy again even though I'd rather the Genesis version.

I sold off my Megadrive Megatron last month once this was available for preorder. Should be showing up tomorrow from BBTS with Warbotron Wirlwind.

Thought I'd add some pics of the Genesis version of Megadrive Megatron. I got mine yesterday from BBTS and I'm really glad I held off for this version. From the initial pics I wasn't as big of a fan of the purple accents, but in person I really do like them.
Also, the Genesis controller is based on a slightly later version of the 3 button that didn't have orange lettering on the buttons.
Being a Transformers fan and semi retro game collector, I had to get him. I think anyone else falling into that category would want one. I do agree about it being fairly small for the price, but I don't regret the purchase one bit.
I do wish Optimus was going to be a Super Nintendo, but I'm guessing the licensing cost was too high or Nintendo had no interest in it.

Ah it is good to see that the US will be able to get it… I mean it was really the only/biggest place that had the Genesis labelling.
DukeFett
I'm in the same boat. I would've preferred this one overall, but I got the mega drive version cheaper from anime export. I don't think this is worth $120 at all.

bbts as well, but same price. I already have the initial Japanese release and want to pick this up as well for be US decor, but $120 is kind of steep…

The Genesis version is now up for PO at TFSource. Is he available anywhere else?

Always fun when TakaraTomy does their own thing.

I am still amazed that this figure even exists. Mega Drive (SEGA GENESIS) Megatron rules!
Murasame
XBox should turn into a junkion

I wonder what happens if you enter the Konami code? Or if the DULLARD Kode makes him tear Original Playstation Optimus Primes head off? Reading that back I realize it's time to sleep. It would be nice if there was a Sega CD accessory that powered him up into Galvatron too. And an Xbox that turns into Shockwave. Ship our loot Bbts! I'm going bonkers waiting for this guy!
crazee928
maybe they just assumed that most people will be displaying it in alt mode since that's probably why most of us ordered this guy to begin with ^.^
Autovolt 127
He looks good next to G1 Soundwave and MP Prowl. MP-10….not so much.
DukeFett
The feet really baffle me, I've only recently got back into Transformers and have only MPs and a few G1s besides this guy, I don't know if other more recent TFs are like this, but I don't know how they can get away with feet like that. Especially considering it's just a hollow shell for the system, I don't see why they couldn't figure something better out.
crazee928
got mine yesterday, pretty cool guy once it's in the genesis mode. like what dukefett said, the hinges which are attached to the feet don't peg into anything so you have to really finesse the feet to get it in a position where it'll hold the rest of the figure up straight. the expanding shins are also annoying because mine tends to collapse on itself – you have to be really delicate with the legs in order for everything to hold just right. i hated how small the feet looked in all the earlier pictures because they had the toe flush with the shins, but you can pull the feet out to make him look like he has bigger feet, and use the black heel bit for rear support. everything else is pretty solid. wished the fusion canon was a bit smaller. the controller plug is really loose when plugging into the alt mode, but plugs firmly to the blaster in bot mode. he's an interesting one-off figure (until playstation prime comes out) overall.

I can't wait for my Segatron to arrive but I had to wait for Bee to hit my POL first. He's going to look great on my shelf with next to the SMS, Genesis, Sega Cd, 32x, JVC X'Eye, CDX, Game Gear, Nomad, Saturn and Dreamcast. OK, maybe not the Dreamcast so much.
And Original Playstation Optimus Prime will look great next to my PS1, where ever that is. Damn thing still works too! Too bad old Playstations will never be as fun to collect as old Sega systems, except maybe the Net Yaroze system.
Optimus Dime
They are already making a PS1 that turns into Prime. I will find the pictures and post them if you haven't seen it, wait I will do it now …. (opens a new tab to find images)
