TakaraTomy has just recently given an update to the previously reported 30th Anniversary Masterpiece Fans Choice figure. The current pick is Star Saber, the leader of the Cybertrons from the Transformers Victory series.
*Important note: This is an interim report, and it is not the final result of the poll.*
While this poll report is preliminary, here are the current standings:
Star Saber is the current first choice.
The second runner up is . . . Micron Legend Convoy (Super Mode)/, or Armada Optimus Prime to the fans in the US!
Dia Atlas, from the Transformers Zone series, is the third place vote.
Will Star Saber end up winning the Fan’s Choice vote? Stay tuned, as TFW2005.COM will be sure to bring you the news!

If MPs were that easy to come by, I'd almost believe this. But seeing as TRUs had lines outside their stores waiting for Optimus last year and Soundwave this year, I don't think nostalgia seeking adults even saw an MP.
LegendAntihero
Even though I don't know anything about the character, this would be a cool toy to have.
Stryker055
Hell, I'd buy it. Imagine that design but with top-quality 2013 engineering. Imagine a trailer that actually turns into show-accurate articulated legs… shit, I think I changed my mind about Star Saber.
Stepper
You sure are giving TakTomy more idea for a repaint of MP Star Sabre.
TacticalBacon
Star Saber needs a black repaint! (Yes, I'm a black-repaint nut )
Stepper
Star Sabre currently is so hot because of the MP treatment it is getting
gakken85
Starsaber is the sex.
SouthtownKid
Doesn't seem like a high probability for fan rage in something that is decided by fan votes.
I mean, yeah, some people will always be unhappy about anything. But by definition, the largest number of people who care about the outcome will be getting what they want.
Autovolt 127
The Fan Rage. It will be delicious.
SouthtownKid
Yeah, that's probably my favorite as well. I never get tired of that one.

It will be very, very funny if after all this Star Saber talk, the winner ends up being Micron Legend Convoy.
Or completely left field, Superlink Convoy
Mechafire
Will be hilarious if Star Saber loses to someone completely out of the blue like Energon Prime

I love that one. Here's hoping we can make a close approximation of that with the MP toy!

Here's my personal favorite piece of Star Saber artwork

Seriously. Toys without fiction have close to zero impact on public awareness. That's the entire reason the shows and comics were created in the first place, so many years ago.
Mechafire
I think you are seriously overstating how much impact the toys had.
Bass X0
Acid Storm has had three toys on shelves so he's much less obscure than he was before those three toys. People know him from his toys, not the fiction he appeared in.

I think a large part of Hasbro's target audience for the MP line are lapsed fans in their 30s/40s who watched the show as a kid, are in TRU to buy a toy for their children, and are suddenly overcome by nostalgia. Optimus, Starscream, Grimlock, Soundwave all fit the bill of targeting that group. Most of the others do not.
I think a decent portion of the hardcore audience is at least familiar with who Star Saber is. But I don't think that is a large enough number of people to have TRU carrying a Star Saber MP make any sense.
Even among the hardcore here, there is a pretty substantial group of people who know who Star Saber is, at least vaguely, but have not watched the Takara trilogy and have no plans or interest in doing so.

Indeed, here's some pics of the projected winner to get us back on track!
For me, that is just an awesome, awesome looking robot with an alt mode that, simple transformation notwithstanding , is a unique and cool looking space jet. The smaller jet and transforming pilot/breastmaster/headmaster(sorta) really tickle my fancy too. I saw him for the first time over ten years ago and had no idea who he was. I wasn't familiar with the source media and had never seen the original toy. I just stumbled across a gallery of photos of the toy and instantly fell in love – didn't even know it was an actual "Transformer". After learning more about him and seeing the show I liked him even more.
Anyway, I'll be very surprised if he doesn't win. While I would love toys of most of the others on the list (Dai Atlas especially), my heart and soul are rooting for Star Saber and I'm pretty confident that's what we'll get.
