Out of the human characters appeared on the movieverse, Tyrese Gibson’s character Robert Epps has always been a fan favorite. Despite his fellow cast members openly stating that they won’t be back for Transformers 4, Mr. Gibson always said he’d be delighted to come back.
And here he is… stating that he and Michael are in the talks for Transformers 4. Below is a rough transcript of what he said to Mobli.
“I don’t know… me and Michael Bay, we’ve been exchanging e-mails… I mean Text Messages and I just hope that it works out… I mean things fell apart with Megan Fox and so we had to do what we had to do to pick up the pieces and keep moving with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. And now things fell apart with Shia. Business is business I think. I think Shia has expressed his opinion. I think when you are associated with movie like Transformers other than the box-office sees you as an actor… a full-on actor, lot of people arguably can say they don’t take you serious… in this town called “Hollywood”… because the reason all these doing big is because of the robots, the big action and special effects and so in some capacity could diminish your value as an actor which you bring to the table. Even though it’s huge for your brand and your image and your celebrity around the world. But Shia is one of those real actors full-on real actors… whether gets an independent role where he just get paid Per diem or at some role he’s just passionate about and that he may do for free. As long as he gets associated with these heavy-weight actors… that’s the space he’s been. But for me I started this s*** with Shia, Josh, Michael Bay and the Team and sometimes you lose a team member. In my mind not be in a part with Transformers 4… if that’s even happening… it f**** me up. I’ll be honest… I love it. It was the childhood, movie, favorite of mine… you know I don’t really not wanna be a part of the franchise. Period. You know when you lose a team member sometimes you gotta keep going. Period.”

I would start debating, but I don't want this thread to devolve into the tried-and-true "Optimus is a psycho, no he's not"-discussion.
(We all know there's been way too many of those arguments…)

Yeah, because there's never been an instance of Optimus Prime brutally fighting with Megatron or charging directly into a group of Decepticons, blasting away…
Except for all those times he did exactly that.

All I hope is Tyrese gets to act with his right cheek this time too.
Highlander Prime. Explains all the head-cuttng. I see spin-off potential!

It's not really the ultimate dealbreaker but there's a bit of a difference between Prime doing "neccessary evil" and him basically being a remorseless gangland style executioner. Grimlock, sure.
I think Bayverse Prime's interpretation of "til all are one" is basically Prime being the last one alive.
It's just more lack of appreciation and knowledge of the history of a character but, whatever, it's not the main issue.

I'm glad to hear he could be back. Like his character seems like a good guy.

I like Tyreses character. I also like that he wasn't afraid to show up at Botcon and surround himself with fans too.

Vageta, what does the scouter say about the hyperbole levels??!
No, he just severely wounds Decepticons in a way to allow them to live and continue doing their dastardly Decepticon duties. [sarcasm] After all, "I want to hurt you/stop you, but I still want you to be able to limp away in order to come back the next day and try to take over the world so I'm just going to shoot you in the chest and/or arm and/or wherever else my lasers hit" is much better than "I'm going to stop the threat once and for all". [/sarcasm]

Oh now, no need for the sour face it was just a joke. But when talking about Bay and for that mater any movie based on giant transforming robots maybe instead of realism how about more realistic?.
Any who, I say NO to Mr. Gibson. Bring back Josh Duhamel.

I think they should stick with what they told us to begin with and have "none of the human cast returning" Now here we have 2 characters possibly returning, and I am sure by the end will be others as well, then it will feel like the first three movies but Shia missing in action and then imo that will suck. Just get a whole new cast for goodness sakes, with a different story, preferrably most of it off planet earth.
hoosierdaddy04
Did you just use the word realism in a thread that has to do with a Michael Bay movie? Just checking.

#1- This thread isn't about Optimus so please take it elsewhere
#2- There is a difference between a cartoon and live action. It's called realism. What's Optimus going to do? Say "take over the Earth 'cons, be my guest"? In a war, there will be people (or in this case, Transformers) that die and kill.

"New direction" is a wonderfully vague term. It could be anything from just a few new cast members to a full reboot.

my sentiments exactly, at this point i'm just indifferent to the movie franchise because hating it takes too much effort. at least i know i won't be spending more money on the movieverse toys.

Well, simply put, there isn't anything to dislike about him. He had humorous moments but was never goofy or comical. The character always seemed to have a "this is serious business" underlying aspect to him.
What about people being critical over a nonexistent casting choice for a movie that – at best – has barely entered pre-production?

Uuuugh!
Can we just move on? Seriously…Epps is useless and does nothing plot wise. I feel like his character is only in the movie to entertain and attract another demographic to pay $$$. If his character (or any character) lacks the substance to move the plot of a movie, then that character should not be in a movie.
I like watching the movies but only watching the Transformers, if I could cut out all the human parts, I would be happy. I often turn off the sound until the Transformers come in, then I turn it back on. And then I turn it back off when Sam, Simmons, Epps, Carly, Mikayla, or Lennox come on.
Can we just leave the humans outta this? You know, unless they are getting smashed, captured, or used as hostages…
Newholl
Why do you like him?
(Note: Saying that you like the character because he's played by Tyrese is not a valid answer)
THERE, not THEIR… dumbass.
And I don't recall Optimus Prime of our childhood being a merciless murderer (No, he didn't kill anyone in TF:TM. Rewatch it!).
Nightrain
There is nothing bold in concluding that Michael Bay is full of shit.
Lurkertron
Right, so Michael Bay talking to Gibson is some sort of ruse and really, he's not interested in him being in the movie at all? Gotcha.
Again, although I don't think there is anything amazing about Epps and he can't say "Alien", I have no problem with him him being in the movie except that it points to Bay carrying on with this awful failverse. And that isn't good.
If Epps is maybe coming back, who else?
And that's all I have to say on it. Please don't get upset over people being critical of Michael Bay's shitty films.
It's not worth it.

Tyrese seems to have a genuine affection for this franchise and seems the most invested in seeing it succeed from a purely emotional standpoint. Although money is I'm sure a concern- as it relates to his continued livelihood and all- I don't get the feeling he's all about trying to keep food on his table. And his continued pursuit of being in future movies is bolstered by the fact that his all too brief appearance in DOTM was one of the high-points of emotional connectedness. In other words, he seemed like he was really bringing his acting A-game. Josh Duhamel… keep your eyes on Tyrese. He acts circles around you, dude.
On a side note; I recall a few SDCC's ago Tyrese showed up at the Hasbro booth a few times to sign miniature BB figures and just in general glad-hand with the masses. I don't know what kind of TF fan he was before appearing in the first TF movie, but he seems to be a pretty hardcore supporter now with genuine affection and appreciation of the fans.
