After more than 3 months of silence from the web, Director Michael Bay talked a bit more about his upcoming movie; Transformers 4. For those who usually stay away even from the tiniest spoilers, this news post contains what he mentioned about the plot… you are warned.
“It’s not a reboot,” Bay said, reiterating that the new film will have an all-new cast. “That’s maybe the wrong word. I don’t want to say ‘reboot’ because then people will think we’re doing a ‘Spider-Man’ and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts… We’re moving on to something different.”
Director Bay mentioned a bit about the plot as well…
“That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it?” says Bay. “I want to go a little off [the planet] but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded.”
And the budget is less than what was allocated for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This time it’s a relatively small (in terms of movies like this) budget of $165 million.

Because Hasblow spend everything with Prime, Kreo, those stupid Battleship and GI Jane 2 movies and is now running short on money.
tikgnat
OMFG, they're going to film on a smaller budget? But that will make Transformers look and feel like cheap KO's and smaller up on the screen!

I'm starting to wonder if we might see Nebulos and Headmasters in TF4. I guess it would mean no licensing deal with GM, but Hasbro would probably be happy.
HordakFan
Yes some fresh concepts and ideas would be nice.
You see, i love that idea for a space travel theme. Have some exploring and hope we have Dinobots and Unicron in it.

maybe few humans go with autobots
maybe they find new planet

This is one of my biggest hopes for the next series. As for the new big baddy? Jihaxus gets my vote. Or a new Megatron by name only ala beast wars.

Considering that the first 3 movies, in all seriousness were pretty subpar as far as real movies go, I'm looking forward to a TF movie with a lower budget. You can't do 'stupid' and get away with it on a lower budget. There will have to be an interesting premise to accompany the lack of visual noise.
but hey maybe I could be being optimistic. I'm sure Hasbro has figured out by now, that any TF movie would be box office blockbusters regardless of how badly they are told, or how cheaply they are made..
Hopefully lower buget would also mean less cluttered robot designs, as that would lower render-time by weeks if not months.

Don't forget past statements like 'No Megatron' and that Prime and Bumblebee will get a new look.
It's all still up in the air, and if they decide there's more money in leaving something unchanged, that's what they'll do.

Comparing a 28 year old cartoon to the movies? Really
G1Jazz
I don't know about anybody else, but the whole "all-new cast" thing shakes me a bit. I mean to the whole "space" thing, but all new cast. hmmm
G1 SIDESWIPE
hopefully they do like a war for cybertron type theme that be cool but i do hope they focus more on the robot characters then the humans

I'd think the best route to go now that Megs is gone is introduce Unicron and Galvatron

Transformers: Space, The Next Movie???
The million dollar question for Michael Bay (if he reads these posts) is: Who would be the new villain in the event he doesn't go the route of creating Galvatron??? Your best bet is to create a trilogy that'll introduce Unicron, have him appear at the end of five and continue into six. Just a thought!!!
Autovolt 127
oh noes!
Ruination04
This. Although I really don't want Unicron, although if he was in there, he would probably be something other than a planet-eating monster.. I want Ultra Magnus & Galvatron.
Arbitron
He was referring to the G1 cartoon, and he was right.
G1 cartoon sucked.
