An interesting snippet from a larger article on Transformers the Ride posted on LATimes’ Hero Complex gives a small insight into what lies in store with Transformers 4. Apparently Transformers 4 will feature a redesign of the robots and an entirely new (human?) cast. Michael Bay has also said that he intends for this movie to be his last, to set things up for “the next guy”.
Granted, we have heard that before, because in the production of Transformers Dark of the Moon, Michael Bay had stated he intended that to be his last, and even before that, during Revenge of the Fallen Mr Bay had said he intended to take some time out before making the third movie. Neither of these possibilities materialized, so take this claim that Transformers 4 will be his last one with a pinch of salt.
That being said, how does a redesign of the robot cast grab you? Dark of the Moon already featured a move to more “heroic” proportions on Optimus Prime with his new abs – will it be a case of more tweaking of designs familiar to audiences the world over, or perhaps a more dramatic shake-up?
Be sure to check out the full article on LATimes. While it is mostly about Transformers the Ride, it is well worth the read for the information on the reception to the ride as much as it is for the hint at Transformers 4 taking a different direction.

I only want Mirage to return if he's not a Ferrari. Have him be another red sports car
Nightrain
Yeah, he can get no toy for two films in a row. Swell.

I hope that means he's going to leave things as open as possible for the next guy, rather than leaving it so the next story is already set-up at the end of TF4.
I'd rather: 'And the war continues…'
Than the end of TF4 be:
"What's that appearing just over there? It's Cybertron! It wasn't destroyed after all! And look at all those Decepticons coming from it! If only we hadn't just lost Optimus Prime! Get ready, everyone…"
'To be continued in Transformers 5…'
I suppose it depends what Bay means when he says 'franchise'. Does he mean live-action TF movies in general or does he mean BayFormers? I'd rather he just concentrated on doing a good job for his own movie and not worrying about leaving things set up for whoever comes on after he's gone. When he goes that should be the end of BayFormers. Whoever comes on next should be allowed to make the next chapter of live-action TF movies their own thing, without having to bother taking into account what came before. Otherwise just keep Bay if it's just going to essentially be more BayFormers but with someone else at the helm.

…statements like that make me want Shia back.

As always, there is much information posted as facts in a movie thread. If you use the term 'trust me' or 'fact', there's a very good chance you are making it up. But should we expect anything less?

Seems fair.
I´m only happy when this community reveals s it´s true colors.

I think JJ abrams should direct, with spielberg producing! that'd be a guranteed great movie
seekerblackout
By redesign I'm pretty sure they mean like the subtle things we saw out of most recurring Autobots in DOTM.

I come in here, trying to respect the opinions of those who don't mirror my own. Because that's how opinions work… then the 'Geewunner" crap starts.
To hell with them AND their opinions.

You're exactly right. Using all that money to hire a director that doesn't suck ass and writers that can actually write a decent script would be much better.
Dolza_Khyron
actually that was the concept.
this was the costume
Jakest123
Sure, waste money redesigning characters who look fine instead of something else which could use the money better. :/

Battleship's biggest problem seems to be that people thought the idea of a battleship vs aliens movie was a bad idea. There was a time when such a concept might have worked but after films like Battlefield LA and the Transformers series the idea of the current era military fighting aliens is getting kind of stale. A bit like how the vampire craze builds and then dies off when Hollywood does too many vampire movies.
It does seem like Bay's schtick is getting a bit old for US viewers. Even with the box office bonus of 3D ticket sells domestically Dark of the Moon made $352 million compared to Revenge of the Fallen making $402 million and the first Transformers $319 million. It's the rapid expansion of the international box office that made Dark of the Moon a big winner since 68.6% of it's total box office came from international sells vs 51.9% for Revenge of the Fallen and 55.0% for the first Transformers movie.
Given that the big US retailers rejected more Dark of the Moon toys for their shelves it seems that even children might be getting tired of the films.

Anytime,Bay can just revive Megatron or transform him into Galvatron.
Dinobot Snarl
I read up on this, Superman died and is put back together by a robot in the fortress of solitude that basically makes an exoskeleton for him…neat sounding stuff. The last movie put me right to sleep.
