2005 Boards members Fabexmax and Clonemanager have got their hands on the new Dark of the Moon Cyberverse Commander Powerglide. This toy is a part of the second wave assortment with Blackout, and in the style of Revenge of the Fallen Breakdown renders the classic Generation 1 character in movie style. Does he stack up against the original, and more importantly, is he a good toy? Check out their reviews and pictures by hitting the discuss link and reading on!

Robot Mode: Powerglide is a clear homage to G1 Powerglide and the robot mode reflects that. You got the red-grey color combination, the legs formed from the rear assembly of his jet mode, and the signature bucket head. The only real difference design-wise is that DOTM Powerglide has his wings on the arms instead of at the shoulders. Still, you easily recognise him as the character he’s supposed to be.
Powerglide is as articulated as you can expect from a modern-day Scout-class figure (yeah, Commander-class now, I know), so no complaints on that front. Added articulation comes from the wings on the arms, which can swivel so Powerglide can use them as shields or blades. Detailing and paint application look pretty good, especially in a line where most details are usually swallowed by masses of unpainted grey plastic. So thumbs up for that.
He carries two weapons, formed from the ordnance hanging under his wings in jet mode. The weapons can combine into a bigger one as well and are interchangeable with other Cyberverse figures. So bottom line: a very nice-looking Scout-class figure and a good homage to G1 Powerglide.
Alternate Mode: Powerglide still transforms into the same jet he always does, the A-10 Thunderbolt attack fighter. Naturally it’s a bit bigger than the jet mode of G1 Powerglide and a whole lot smaller than Universe Powerglide, but it’s still recognizable as the very same type. Powerglide’s assorted weapons are stretched out underneath the wings or you can leave them off to have a (mostly) unarmed jet. The detailing is pretty good for such a small craft, down to sculpted rivets on the side of the jet turbines. The jet has a functional landing gear, too, which is always a plus. Not much more I can write here. An excellent looking jet mode, as realistic as you can probably get at this scale. Nice.
Remarks: All of the Movie toylines so far contained lots of figures that didn’t actually appear in the respective motion picture. Some of them paid homage to characters from past series, such as G1. It’s no different for DOTM, which has already brought us Guzzle and also features what’s only the third-ever Powerglide (not counting the various variants of the big Universe version). Given that they didn’t have any problems changing Powerglide’s colors for his Universe release, I’m kinda surprised that Powerglide is back in his signature red here in DOTM instead of, you know, unpainted grey, but that’s very much appreciated.
Still, the figure kinda lacks a real reason d’être. Powerglide didn’t appear in any movie or movie comic, the figure is a bit too much Movie-style to fit in with your Classics figures, so unless you’re like me and bought him because he’s ol’ Powerglide, he doesn’t really stand out much (except color-wise, because he’s not gray). So bottom line: a good figure, but unless you dig the character homage, he’s little more than that.

So, I was actually going to completely pass on this figure. About the only display purpose for my collection any sort of Powerglide like this would work with would be my Classics collection of my movie collection (specifically his other Cyberverse buddies). With so many people opting to use this toy instead of Universe 2.0 Powerglide, I was turned off a bit more. I have Universe 2.0 Powerglide (both decos, oddly enough), and am totally satisfied with my Powerglide "update". I really don't need this figure for my movie display, and now that the summer has come and gone, my Cyberverse collection is definitely filled out. I do have a shelf for some random TF jets, just because I like TF jets and it's neat to have them separate.
Why all of the above? Well, sure it's a less-than-$10 purchase, but things add up. Also, I've gotten to the point to where I want to be a bit more choosy with anything like this. Often times, expendable cash things put me in an "either/or" situation.
Enter the $5 off coupon. Purchase for over $5.99? Check. Simple math here where I end up paying next to nothing. The payoff is worth it and then some!
Again, knowing that I don't need a Classics Powerglide, much of my opinions are simply going to be about the toy itself. Not that it really matters, as I think this is a really nice toy. I really feel like he has all of the same magic that figures like RotF Bludgeon, RotF Lockdown, and RtS Sea Spray have – while they may be "movie-esque" figures, the design is not overly so that the figure can't fit into an array of displays nicely without sticking out like a sore thumb. The transformation is engaging, and not overly complicated. The articulation is good. It even has handguns that can be combined to make a larger gun!
I suppose I wouldn't be fair without providing some type of comparison/contrast with the Universe 2.0 mold I like so much. I'll preface everything to say that I nearly passed entirely on Universe 2.0 Powerglide initially. Only after having a gift card did I buy that figure!
Well, I'm not a scale nut with my Classics, but I still do not prefer my Classics "Minibots" as such any more. I don't want bots like Cliffjumper and Cosmos transforming into "toy" vehicles (which was the actual alt modes for the pre-TFs ). This was my main deterrent from DotM Powerglide here. I thought he looked cool enough to get, and it's one of the only Cyberverse figures I hadn't gotten. Coupon in hand, I made my purchase.
He's a neat little figure overall. I'd highly recommend anyone picking it up. If nothing else, now my Powerglide has a "Mini-me"

Went ahead and picked up Powerglide using the $5.00 coupon. (couldn't pass it up for under 3 dollars. ) I do like the look of the jet mode. only a shame that his rear is so heavy, the landing gear cannot support it's weight. The robot mode is pretty meh to me.
All in all, glad I got him on for under $3, definitely wouldn't have spent more than that.

Used the $5 off coupon to get this guy too. Looking forward to opening him up!

I finally pulled the trigger on this guy, and I'm GLAD I did! I wasn't really planning on it, but with my handy little $5 off coupon, how could I not get him for $2.50??
Great little figure… only slight downside is his weight displacement. He has landing gear, but he's got so much "junk in his trunk" that his alt mode sits on tail-end, pointing at the sky… oh well, $2.50!!!
PORTER
i really like this figure!!!
al though i did get him free from targett when i got ironhide but wow such a great purchase!!!
if any of you know me you understand me when i say i love smaller tfs
keep em coming hasbro!

I should have gotten Sentinel Prime today, too. Well, I have Megatron that came with the trailer, so I could get him and swap the two figures… Gotta remember to go shopping during lunch again tomorrow!!!

It's in the weekly flyer so until Saturday I think.
Also, it's just for the $7 Cyberverse figures. ($8 regularly)
Side note: I don't get how the Cybervers guys are $8 and the deluxes are only $12 – I just don't get the math on this.
hthrun
Wow, how long does that go for, and what size classes are included? Now would be the time to stock up on legion sized toys…
OCProwl
Nope, you can buy one TF and get a 2nd TF free. Trust me, I've bought six this week for the price of 3. The second TF will ring up as $0.00.
hthrun
I saw a note about getting a free figure, but it said you had to buy a TF, a Spider-Man figure, a Beyblade toy, AND something else I can't remember now. I wouldn't have minded getting a Spider-Man, but I didn't want to get the other things.
ex dtw2003
I found one at Target over the weekend and _almost_ grabbe him because of the deal. But I just couldn't.
Why? I can't afford to get into another size class/line. I really can't as much as this little dude rings my g1 nostalgia bell.
OCProwl
You should run back to Target because not only is it $1 off, they are BOGO free this week so you could grab a 2nd for $0.00! Two for $7 basically, but you wouldn't know until you ring up the second figure.
hthrun
Just got him! He's the first lone Cyberverse figure I've gotten. (I got the ark, the playsets, and the IH/LF 2-pack.) They were having a $1 off sale at Target on them I was hoping to find Hatchet but it was just PG, Sentinel, Optimus, and Megatron for commander class.
I like his design, articulation, weapons, stability… my only complaint is his sides don't peg in very well in robot mode. Otherwise, this guy's great! Even deploying landing gear for such a small toy, wow!

So you don't like movie designs, you bought a toy from the movie line with a clear movie aesthetic, and you don't like it because it has a movie aesthetic?
Anyway, love this little guy, looks great with my other legends Autobot jets. Makes a nice rival for Blackout.
big hank
I like the figure, I like the updated look. While he's clearly got the Movie/Generations aesthetic, he resides in with and looks great next to my Classics styled Legends figures.
I recommend this guy for sure.

Because G1 isn't all Transformers is about? I'd stop collecting if G1 fanboys got their way and EVERYTHING was G1. What ever happened to redesigns? What happened to just homaging a character but also being free to do something NEW?
G1 Powerglide looks AWFUL. You'll never see one in my collection…ever. That's why I'm so happy about this Powerglide. It's perfect for me. It's clearly Powerglide unless you're blind, but it's also a design that's new and exciting.
I just don't get this fandom sometimes.
Sy-Rein
Sorry, but this makes me lol.
Personally I'm quite happy with Powerglide as is. It's different enough from the original to make him interesting yet keeps enough aspects to make him recognizable as PG (heck even my wife recognized him when I brought him out the other day).
ZedzDead
of course that was just my opinion on the the direction they are taking. i for one do not like anything movie verse even prime or BB; especially megatron. there a few cool figs out there, but for the most part, classics is where its at for me. and this this little fig (which i just went out and bought btw), could have been so much better. hell, i could design a better fig than this should i be so inclined to do so. its not hard to redo the G1 minibot powerglide to a modern articulated version, trust me, its not hard.
Snake_eyes1975
Huh….see…thats wierd..because see…Im a Mainline transformer buyer…really since movie 1. Ive bought thousands of dollars worth of TFs in the past few years…
AND NOT ONE SINGLE 3rd PARTY ITEM…
I think Hasbro is doing JUST fine…Let the 3rd party keepdoing what they are doing, because they make some VERY happy. I dont buy 3rd party stuff. I like some of the stuff I see, but Im just not that into it…some of the prices for the stuff I like are rediculous..to me at least…
Hasbro puts out ONE HELL OF A QUALITY PRODUCT for the money…to where I would direct you to the thread about people thinking a $10 or $20 deluxe or voyager is too much money with everything that goes into it..
And Hasbro…the design team is doin a great job except my leader ironhide QC issues…Other than that,
