Apocalypse Comics sent us a line letting us know about exclusive comic covers that will be available thru them at New York Comic Con. Included will be covers for Transformers #12 and G.I. Joe # 23 from IDW.
We will be bringing two exclusive variants to this years New York Comic Con. The first is for Transformers #12, and is a homage to the classic Jack Kirby cover of X-Men #1. The second is for GI Joe #23 and is a homage to the unforgettable Apocalypse Now! movie poster. The TF cover features Sideswipe, Prowl, Swoop, First Aid, Brainstorm, Bombshell and Scrapper and the GI Joe cover features Baron Bludd and Duke. The reason we have chosen these specific characters to grace the covers is because they were all voiced by legendary voice actor Michael Bell who will be joining us at the convention, signing comics, figures, DVDs etc…
Also joining us at the show will be the artists of both covers, penciler Casey Coller (who also penciled TF Spotlight Drift, Spotlight Blurr and the Ironhide mini series as well as numerous All Hail Megatron covers) and colorist John-Paul Bove. Casey will be sketching all weekend and John-Paul will be able to color sketches all weekend too as well as both signing comics.
So with three top guests and two awesome Convention Exclusive Covers, make sure you visit the Apocalypse Comics booth (booth #2281) for your collectible must haves!!!
Marvel run: Optimus Prime was leader for maybe half the series, Megatron for like 1/10th of the run.
G2 was the only one where the really primarily featured.
Dreamwave: They were around most of Volume 1, Prime but not Megatron was in all of V2, and neither of them really featured in V3 except Megatron is the last couple of issues. They only featured in War Within V1 as well and were missing in V2 and Megatron was sort of about to come back in V3 before it cancelled.
Since IDW has been in charge they started by intentionally not introducing Megatron and Prime until the later part of the -ation series, then Megatron got AHM with Prime not in until the end, and now we have the ongoing where Bumblebee is leader (what?) and not Prime who now gets little "screen time" and Megatron is missing.
I understand not wanting to pay all your attention to the leaders to give everyone else some time in the light too – but the comics have always found ways to just completely sweep the two of them aside for lengthy amounts of time just to have them come back for a little bit and then gets pushed out of the way again.
Tell me, just counting the time in which IDW has been in charge, how many times have we actually seen Prime and Megatron face off in IDW's run the last few years? Like twice.

as an old x-men fan this is awesome!

The empty space is only empty because the exact text wasn't finalised at the moment the cover was being announced, but the finished cover will be in keeping with the original cover in terms of placements etc. The original version had a hand drawn Transformers logo in the style of the X-Men logo but it had to be changed to the standard logo at the last minute so there might be a tiny bit more white overall but nothing too far from the original.

One of Casey's favourite characters is First Aid which is why I think he got a kick out of giving him that pose… I was laughing every time I had to colour anything on him!

Nice homages.

Tasty. Me wanty…..

OBJECTION!
Prime's been in a few issues of the ongoing, he's just not leading the Autobots anymore. And Megatron has been hinted at (I'm a little behind, so he may be awake by now), but for now, he's like Animated Season 1 Megatron.

I think it's wonderful. First Aid's pose could have been updated from the original one maybe, but it's not a big deal.
Blitz.
I was going to say First Aid had a rather feme pose

Oh, IDW. If only you'd put as much effort into quality writing as you do coming up with alternate covers.

That part I can't answer. I'm assuming they just thought it would be cool, draw in some other non-TF folks. I think they are both cool.

Optimus Prime and Megatron are never even in the Transformers comics.
AllSpark Ferret
First Aid looks like he's disco dancing or trying to immitate John Inman. Overall its a very odd cover design.
Autovolt 127
That is an awesome cover. X-men + Transformers = awesomeness.
Also know this guys that Micheal Bell once voiced Cyclops in Pryde of the X-Men. the cover makes sense to me.
MattMoylan
That's kind of a crappily done homage… so much empty space left around the logo. They could have easily made it look more like the real cover.
Though like others, I am not sure WHY they are swiping this cover… weird.
Sage o’ G-fruit
I love that ongoing cover. Going to have to track that one down.
Joe Moore
Makes sense for the characters chosen, but not the cover chosen to mimic.
X-Brawn
First Aid looks like he's dancing. Or posing on a runway.
I know we were going with the Michael Bell homage there, but couldn't we have gotten Arcee to be Jean Grey? Or any of the other fembots?
Or given him a more masculine pose?
EDIT: 2nd cover, what's Nick Fury doing on there?
