I blame the Club more then Hasbro because of all the times Pete or the actual site talked about all the crap they do to make sure the sets "retain their value" and are "true exclusives". I didn't say that I put all the blame wholly at their feet or that we know all the details.

This is about the nature of an exclusive. The club has made a huge deal in the past about this is the only way we'll get a character, that they destroy the molds when they're done, about all the work they go through to secure the characters and molds from Hasbro and get their approval to be exclusives, how they'll never discount the packages to make sure they don't lose value over time if they don't sell out, etc. Except it seems there should've been an asterisk there, pointing out that "unless people bitch a lot or Hasbro changes their mind".

How, specifically, have they made "huge deals" about such stuff in the past?

If this is about the nature of an exclusive and not about retaining value, then the club saying they won't discount stuff is not relevant, since that is about retaining value, not about the nature of the exclusive.

'Securing' the characters/molds from Hasbro? Using the term 'securing' seems to imply the club making Hasbro stay away from the characters/molds in the future. That's never been the case. They get 'approved' by Hasbro. Hasbro won't re-make the same item, but the same mold, same characters, different(but similar) paint jobs, and different (but similar remolds) are still possible fair game…. as Generations Thrust is.

Destroying the molds? I'm not sure if that is confirmed fact. However, Generations Thrust is not using the Botcon 2007 Thrust mold. So guess what? That just shows that Botcon 2007 Thrust is still an exclusive!

If that asterisk of Hasbro changing their mind wasn't there all the time, it should have been there once the Target movie scouts showed up three years ago, and one was much like BC2005 Fallback as Generations Thrust is to BC2007 Thrust

Again, it's not about the character selection or wanting to be one of the few with a complete set of seekers or it's value. It's about labeling something as an exclusive and then it not being one. Call it truth in marketing, if you will.

Again, Generations Thrust is not the same paint job or same re-mold. Evidently, that's where Hasbro nitpicks the definition of exclusive.

Does this mean that later down the road we can get a Generations Punch/Counterpunch (With a different paint job and different head mold(s))? Ratchet from Energon Tow-Lines mold (with the same changes)? Dion from Universe Hot Shot without launchers in an all blue vehicle mode color scheme? G2 Spark from Universe Inferno with different colored windshields and gun?

A Hasbro P/CP possible? Yes, I guess that's possible, with a different paint job and different new head.

Ratchet from Towline with the same changes? No, not with the same changes. With different changes, possible.

Dion? Yes. Spark?, Yes.

My problem with the club is that at this point they seem to be falsely naming something an exclusive and are either unwilling or unable to keep their exclusives as just that. I don't think it can be stated enough, but I'm pleased that we're getting Generations Thrust as a toy for everyone and will likely pick it up to add to my Seeker forces. I suppose mostly I'd like a clarification from them on what an Exclusive from them really means.

By your definition of exclusive, yes, the club is unable to maintain exclusivity. But it's Hasbro, not the club, making those calls. I hope my examples above could help clarify to you what Hasbro & Takara consider to be 'not an infringement' of exclusivity. The line has been brushed up against very closely many times before.

I would love an army-buildable seeker. having my classics/universe stuff on display right now, the decepticon army's numbers are pathetic. I'm hoping for lots of decepticons in Generations.

not gonna happen. seriously, no chance of it.

Thundercracker would be pretty easy to make very different from the botcon version too. use the same mold, change the color of blue, and give him a modern deco update like they did classics skywarp.

I already have the Botcon classics seekers, so I bought Takara's Dirge but skipped their Thrust. But… I guess since this is a Hasbro release I'll be picking it up. Can a Hasbro release of Takara's Dirge mold be far behind? Will Hasbro find an excuse to release Thundercracker, then, Botcon be dammed?

I'm a little confused. Is this a Hasbro or Takara release?

At any rate, I prefer this over the Gentei version because it features the correct black forearms. I hope Dirge gets a similar treatment.

because it's really the same as this whole seeker situation, since the botcon wing mold isnt being used.

overkill and thrust were both botcon exclusive repaints, and the mass-release version of each is using the same mold for the same character, with a different deco than the exclusive.

Hell, since the botcon thrust's wings are a different mold, the botcon overkill people should actually be angrier.

As far as I'm concerned, Generations Thrust is a must because it's the most toon accurate of all three.
